Referring to fig. 1 to 3, the electrical connector 100 of the present invention is suitable for mating a first and a second different mating connectors 200, 300. The electrical connector 100 includes a base 1 and a plurality of conductive terminals 2 fixed to the base 1.
The base 1 is provided with a butt joint surface 11, a first outer surface 12 opposite to the butt joint surface 11, two second outer surfaces 13 positioned at two opposite transverse ends of the base 1, and two opposite third outer surfaces 14 connecting the butt joint surface 11, the first outer surface 12 and the second outer surface 13. The base 11 is provided with a plurality of terminal accommodating parts 15 which are arranged in a row and respectively protrude out of the butt joint surface 11, the terminal accommodating parts 15 are provided with terminal grooves 151 which penetrate through the end surfaces of the terminal accommodating parts and the first outer surface 12 along the butt joint direction, and the conductive terminals 2 are accommodated in the terminal grooves 151. The base 1 is further provided with a pair of positioning portions located at both lateral ends of the terminal housing portion 15. The positioning part protrudes out of the butt joint surface 11 and is provided with a positioning hole 16 penetrating through the end surface of the butt joint surface along the butt joint direction. The positioning hole 16 is provided with a first positioning hole 17 and a second positioning hole 18 which are of two different structures. The first positioning hole 17 is used for mating with the first type of mating connector 200, and the second positioning hole 18 is used for mating with the second type of mating connector 300. The first positioning hole 17 and the second positioning hole 18 perpendicularly intersect each other so that the positioning hole 16 is substantially cross-shaped. The positioning hole 16 penetrates through the end surface of the positioning portion in the mating direction but does not penetrate through the first outer surface 12 of the base 11. The base 1 is further provided with fixing holes 19 respectively located at two sides of the positioning portion, and the electrical connector 100 further includes a fixing member 3 fixed to the fixing holes 19, wherein the fixing member 3 is used for fixing with an external housing (not shown) so as to fix the electrical connector 100 to the external housing (not shown).
The first positioning hole 17 is a rectangular groove and is provided with two first inner wall surfaces 171 which are parallel to each other when viewed from the abutting surface 11 in the abutting direction. The first inner wall surface 171 is provided at an acute angle to the abutting surface 11, and the first inner wall surface 171 is an inclined surface when viewed from the abutting surface 11 in the abutting direction. In the present embodiment, the acute angle between the first inner wall surface 171 and the abutting surface 11 is about 78 °. The second positioning hole 18 is defined by two second inner wall surfaces 181 extending transversely and disposed oppositely, and the second inner wall surfaces 181 and the abutting surfaces 11 are disposed perpendicularly to each other. Both lateral ends of the second inner wall surface 181 are connected in a semicircular shape as viewed from the abutting surface 11 in the abutting direction. The first inner wall surface 171 and the second inner wall surface 181 intersect with each other to form a break plane 161 having a triangular shape with a minimum acute angle of about 12 °. The two second outer surfaces 13 of the base 1 are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the abutment surfaces 11, respectively. Two third surface 14 of base 1 are parallel to each other, and one of them third surface 14 with the contained angle between the face 11 is the acute angle, another third surface 14 with the contained angle between the face 11 sets up for the obtuse angle. The two first inner wall surfaces 171 of the first positioning hole 17 are parallel to the third outer surface 14, respectively. The first outer surface 12 includes two side surfaces 121 respectively located at two lateral ends of the base 1 and a middle surface 122 located between the two side surfaces 121. As shown in fig. 4 to 7, the two side surfaces 121 are respectively disposed perpendicular to the third outer surface 14, and the middle surface 122 is disposed parallel to the abutting surface 11. Referring to fig. 3, the base 1 is further provided with a notch 123 penetrating through the middle surface 122, and the notch 123 penetrates through one of the two third outer surfaces 14.
Referring to fig. 2 to 4, the conductive terminals 2 are accommodated in the terminal grooves 151 in a row. Each conductive terminal 2 includes a cylindrical holding portion 21 received in the terminal groove 151, a contact portion 22 located at one end of the holding portion 21 and exposed at the mating face 11, and a pin 23 extending out of the intermediate surface 122. The holding portion 21 is extended outward with a ring of barbs 211 to be held by interference with the inner wall of the terminal groove 151. The contact portion 22 is a disk-shaped structure protruding from the abutting surface 11 and parallel to the abutting surface 11. The pins 23 extend into the notches 123 and continue to extend out of the notches 123 in the mating direction.
Referring to fig. 3 to 5, the first docking connector 200 includes a first base 4 and a plurality of laterally arranged first docking terminals 5 held on the first base 4. The first base 4 is provided with a first abutting surface 41 facing the abutting surface 11 of the electrical connector 100 and parallel to the abutting surface 11, and first positioning posts 42 located at two lateral ends of the first base 4 and protruding out of the first abutting surface 41 of the first base 4 along the abutting direction. The first positioning column 42 has a substantially rectangular parallelepiped shape, and includes two outer wall surfaces 421 that face each other, a side wall surface 422 that connects the two outer wall surfaces 421, and an end surface 423 that connects the two outer wall surfaces 421 and the two side wall surfaces 422. The outer wall surface 421 and the side wall surface 422 are both disposed perpendicular to the first abutting surface 41. The end surface 423 is disposed at an acute angle with one of the two outer wall surfaces 421 and at an obtuse angle with the other outer wall surface 421. The first mating terminal 5 is provided with an elastic contact portion 51 protruding out of the first mating face 41. Referring to fig. 4 and 5, when the first mating connector 200 is mated with the electrical connector 100, the first positioning post 42 is received in the first positioning hole 17, an outer wall surface 421 of the first positioning post 42 contacts with an inner wall surface 171 of the first positioning hole 17, so that the elastic contact portion 51 of the first mating terminal is obliquely abutted against the contact portion 22 of the conductive terminal 2, and an acute included angle between a central axis of the first mating terminal 5 and a central axis of the conductive terminal 2 is about 12 °; at this time, the outer wall 421 of the first positioning pillar 42 is parallel to the third outer surface 14 of the base 1, and the outer wall 421 of the first positioning pillar 42 is perpendicular to the side surface 121 of the first outer surface 12.
Referring to fig. 3, 6 and 7, the second type of docking connector 300 includes a second base 6 and a plurality of laterally arranged second docking terminals 7 held on the second base 6. The second base 6 is provided with a second abutting surface 61 facing the abutting surface 11 of the electrical connector 100 and parallel to the abutting surface 11, and second positioning posts 62 located at two lateral ends of the second base 6 and protruding out of the second abutting surface 61 of the second base 4 along the abutting direction. The second positioning post 62 has a substantially capsule shape having two outer wall surfaces 621 opposing each other, a side wall surface 622 connecting the two outer wall surfaces 621, and an end surface 623 connecting the two outer wall surfaces 621 and the two side wall surfaces 622. The outer wall surface 621 and the sidewall surface 622 are disposed perpendicular to the second abutting surface 61. The end surface 623 is disposed parallel to the second abutment surface 61. Two of the side wall surfaces 622 are semi-circular curved surfaces. The second docking terminal 7 is provided with an elastic contact portion 71 protruding out of the second docking surface 61. Referring to fig. 6 and 7, when the second mating connector 300 is mated with the electrical connector 100, the second positioning post 62 is received in the second positioning hole 18, the side wall surface 622 of the second positioning post 42 contacts with the semicircular curved surfaces at two lateral ends of the second inner wall surface 181 of the second positioning hole 18, so that the elastic contact portion 71 of the second mating terminal is abutted against the contact portion 22 of the conductive terminal 2, and the central axis of the second mating terminal 5 is aligned with the central axis of the conductive terminal 2; at this time, the outer wall surface 621 of the second positioning pillar 62 is perpendicular to the middle surface 122 of the abutting surface 11 and the first outer surface 12 of the base 1. The number of the second mating terminals 7 of the second mating connector 300 is smaller than the number of the conductive terminals 2 of the electrical connector 100, so that the conductive terminals 2 of the electrical connector 100 are partially in an idle state during mating.
