The invention relates to a program updating method and a system, wherein after a standby instruction is received, first program source data are stored, and the standby of the system is controlled; the first program source is data of a current system program source; after the preset wake-up time is up, controlling the system to start up and receiving second program source data; the second program source data is current front-end program source data; and if the second program source data is updated in comparison with the first program source data, storing the second program source data as the first program source data, and controlling the system to stand by. The program updating method and the program updating system can realize program updating in the standby stage of the system, and directly play the latest program without program updating when a user starts the machine subsequently, so that the time of system detection and a program updating source is saved, the program updating efficiency is improved, and the program watching experience of the user is improved.
