在最近的十年中,超临界流体已被用于萃取、聚合物分级分离、色谱和催化剂生成。它们还作为反应介质(合成,包括聚合)用于清理和使药剂浸入基质。
超临界流体具有介乎正常的液体和气体之间的性质。虽然任何物质都可以做成超临界流体,但优选的是气体,因为气体可以在低温下压缩。这类气体的实例是二氧化碳、氨、氧化亚氮、乙烷、乙烯和丙烷。液体成为临界流体需要高温。

聚合物的性质决定二氧化碳在涂层配方中的溶解度。除其它特征外有利的特征还包括分子量低、多分散度低以及溶度参数低。业已发现,在聚合物结构包含氟、硅和庞大的取代基的系统中,超临界流体CO2的溶度有所增加。参阅Argyropoulos等人的“超临界流体喷雾涂层的聚合物化学与相的联系”,(第21届水性、高固含量及粉末涂层会议,会议集,新奥尔良(1994年2月))。
二氧化碳向有机材料内部扩散的能力高,因为它粘度低而且可能表面张力也低。例如,65%的聚丙烯酸和2-庚酮的(分散体)粘度是1000个厘泊。含28%的超临界流体CO2,粘度降低到30厘泊。扩散能力高和溶解度高表明超临界的CO2适合萃取、浸渍和高含固量涂层应用。参阅Nielsen等人的“采用超临界流体的高固含量涂层的应用”(High Solids Coating-1993Buyers Guide,pp.4-6(1993))。
二氧化碳的临界点是88°F(31℃)和7.37兆帕(1070psi或72.9atm.)。在这个点,二氧化碳具有液态密度,但呈气相。这个CO2的临界值代表标准喷涂设备能够获得的中等温度和适当的压力。参阅K.A.Nielsen等人的“超临界流体喷雾应用技术:未来的污染防止技术”(Union Carbide Report(1990))。
超临界二氧化碳提供高质量的涂覆,它优于目前在许多生产工艺中采用的无空气喷涂。无空气喷涂导致较大的颗粒沉在喷涂的底部,而且在基质中心的物质多于基质的顶部和底部。参阅B.M.Hybertson的“超临界流体溶液膨胀方法在药物输送、颗粒合成及薄膜沉积上的应用”(UMIDissertation Services(1991))。
采用无空气的溶剂系统的常规刀片表明这种涂层不均匀。我已经观察到二氧化碳喷涂设备在刀刃上提供非常均匀的PTFE涂层。不管理论上怎么讲,我认为在某种程度上是由于二氧化碳在它从高压向低压喷射时产生的膨胀力。因此超临界的二氧化碳与非超临界的二氧化碳相比,前者更好地利用了膨胀力。
依据本发明的多氟烃分散体包括0.05wt%至5wt%的多氟烃,优选的是从0.7wt%至1.2wt%,借助搅拌将多氟烃分散在超临界溶剂中。聚合物可以被引入流动物流或直接混入正在搅拌的储器。当注入流动物流时,静态混合器的下游是优选的。优选的多氟烃包括杜邦公司制造的MP1100、MP1200和MP1600牌聚四氟乙烯粉末。最优选的是MP1100和MP1600。

优选的超临界流体是二氧化碳。
为了形成朝刀刃喷涂的分散体,多氟烃应当有细小的粒度,优选的是平均粒径不超过约100μm。在优选的实施方案中,平均粒径的范围从大约0.2μm至大约12μm。粉末状的多氟烃原始物料可以作为颗粒较粗的物质正常使用,并且可以在辐照步骤前或辐照步骤后将它研磨到上述粒径范围,优选选择辐照后研磨。通常,分散体中多氟烃的含量从大约0.05wt%至大约12wt%,优选的是从0.7wt%至大约8wt%。
为了获得尽可能均匀的涂层,可以用任何适当的方式将分散体加到刀刃上,例如借助浸渍或喷涂;对于涂覆刀刃,特别优选的是雾化,在这种情况下,静电场优选与喷雾器结合使用,以便提高沉积效率。对静电喷涂技术的进一步讨论,参阅授权给Hoy等人的美国专利U.S.5,211,342和U.S.5,023,843,在此将它们全部并入,以供参考。对超临界流体的涂覆与喷涂技术的进一步讨论,参阅授权给Hoy等人的美国专利U.S.5,203,843和U.S.5,108,799,授权给Cole等人的美国专利U.S.5,066,522,授权给Lee等人的美国专利U.S.5,027,742和U.S.4,923,720,在此将它们全部并入,以供参考。将刀片预热到接近超临界流体沸点(31℃)的温度可能也是符合需要的。
按照本发明,将超临界的二氧化碳和多氟烃聚合物的混合物喷涂到基质刀片上,形成液体涂层,其方法是让液体混合物在压力作用下通过喷嘴进入基质的环境以形成液/气雾。
适合本发明实践的喷嘴尺寸(直径)通常在0.10至1.83毫米(0.004英寸至0.072英寸)范围内。较小的喷嘴尺寸是优选的,喷嘴尺寸(直径)从0.10至0.64毫米(0.004英寸至0.025英寸)是优选的。喷嘴尺寸(直径)从0.18至0.38毫米(0.007英寸至0.015英寸)是最优选的。通常在距离基质大约25.4至304.8毫米(1至12英寸)的位置上进行喷涂。
优选的喷涂压力介于8.27至1.72兆帕(1200psi至250psi)之间。最优选的喷涂压力介于7.37至2.07兆帕(1070psi至300psi)之间。最低的喷涂温度大约是31℃。优选的喷涂温度介于35℃至90℃之间。最优选的喷涂温度介于45℃至75℃之间。
在喷涂操作期间,当液/气雾刚刚离开喷嘴时,它经受急剧冷却,以致温度迅速下降到接近环境温度或低于环境温度。如果液/气雾冷却到环境温度以下,周围的空气卷入液/气雾使它在抵达基质之前温度回升到环境温度或接近环境温度。这种急剧冷却是有利的,因为在雾中蒸发的活性溶剂少于使用常规加热的无空气喷涂设备时溶剂的损失量。因此,为了有利于喷涂给分散体预热是符合需要的,预热的程度取决于分散体的性质。
最后,给刀刃上的涂层加热是为了使聚合物附着到刀片上。加热作业可能导致熔结涂层、部分熔融涂层、或熔融涂层。部分熔融涂层或全部熔融涂层是优选的,因为它允许涂层在刀片上更充分地展开和覆盖刀片。关于熔融、部分熔融和熔结的进一步讨论参阅“McGraw-Hill Encyclopediaof Science and Technology”(卷12,第5版,页437(1992))。
总之,为了在刀刃上形成附着的涂层,必须将刀刃上沉积着聚合物颗粒的刀片加热到升高的温度。加热的持续时间可以在很宽的范围内变化,短到数秒,长达数小时,这取决于所用的具体聚合物的特性、刀刃的性质、刀片的升温速度、刀片需要达到的温度、以及刀片加热时气氛的性质。尽管刀片可以在空气气氛中加热,但是,优选的加热气氛是惰性气体(如氦气、氮气等)、还原气体(如氢气)、这些气体的混合物或真空。至少,通过加热足以使孤立的聚合物颗粒形成熔结体。优选的是通过加热足以使聚合物展开成厚度适当的连续薄膜并牢固地附着在刀刃材料上。
显然必须调整加热条件(如最高温度、加热时间等),以避免聚合物大量分解和(或)刀刃金属过度回火。优选的温度应当不超过430℃。
下面用具体的实施例来说明本发明的特征。用下述实施例中每片刀片第一次剃脸获得的体验与用目前可利用的氯氟烃溶剂制造的有碳氟聚合物涂层的刀片所获得的体验进行比较,两者是相同的。此外,本发明的涂层均匀性优于用已知的含水溶剂或挥发性有机溶剂制造的涂碳氟聚合物的刀片。
实施例
多氟烃分散体:用超临界二氧化碳制备1%的PTFE分散体。多氟烃是由E.I.杜邦公司制造和提供的MP1100牌Teflon含氟添加剂。平均粒径为1.8μm至4μm。二氧化碳的温度保持大约88°F(31℃),压力保持至少是大约1070psi(72.9atm.)。借助搅动分散体储罐来保持分散体。
涂覆刀刃:分散体通过直径大约为0.254毫米(0.010英寸)的喷嘴喷射到刀刃上。喷孔距离刀刃大约304.8毫米(12英寸)。刀片:标准的不锈钢Track II剃刀片位于喷孔前方304.8毫米(12英寸)
处。涂层被喷涂在刀刃上。在喷涂之后,将刀片加热到大约350
℃温度,使碳氟聚合物在刀刃上熔结。最终在刀刃上的Teflon涂
层厚度大约是3000埃。
Claims (20)
1.一种在剃刀片的刀刃上形成聚四氟乙烯涂层的方法,该方法包括:
(a)将聚四氟乙烯分散在超临界流体中;
(b)用分散体涂覆所述剃刀片的刀刃;以及
(c)给该涂层充分加热,使碳氟聚合物附着到刀刃上。
2.根据权利要求1的方法,其中涂层的生产方法是通过一个直径为0.10至1.83毫米的孔喷涂分散体。
3.根据权利要求2的方法,其中涂层的生产方法是通过一个直径从0.10至0.64毫米的孔喷涂分散体。
4.根据权利要求3的方法,其中涂层的生产方法是通过一个直径从0.18至0.38毫米的孔喷涂分散体。
5.根据权利要求3的方法,其中涂层的生产方法是在1.72至8.27兆帕之间的压力下喷涂分散体。
6.根据权利要求5的方法,其中压力从2.07至7.37兆帕。
7.根据权利要求5的方法,其中分散体在喷涂前保持在35℃至90℃的温度下。
8.根据权利要求7的方法,其中温度从45℃至75℃。
9.根据权利要求8的方法,其中聚四氟乙烯的形态是直径小于100μm的颗粒。
10.根据权利要求9的方法,其中聚四氟乙烯的形态是平均粒径介于0.2μm至12μm的颗粒。
11.根据权利要求9的方法,其中分散体包含0.05wt%至12wt%的聚四氟乙烯。
12.根据权利要求11的方法,其中分散体包含0.7wt%至8wt%的聚四氟乙烯。
13.根据权利要求11的方法,其中聚四氟乙烯的平均分子量从700至700,000。
14.根据权利要求13的方法,其中聚四氟乙烯的平均分子量从700至51,000。
15.根据权利要求11的方法,其中聚四氟乙烯是用分子量至少为1,000,000的碳氟聚合物的干粉状原始物料生产的,该原始物料经离子辐射使聚合物的平均分子量降至700至700,000。
16.根据权利要求15的方法,其中聚四氟乙烯是用分子量至少为1,000,000的碳氟聚合物的干粉状原始物料生产的,该原始物料经离子辐射使聚合物的分子量降至700至51,000。
17.根据权利要求14的方法,其中加热步骤(c)足以使聚合物熔融、部分熔融或熔结。
18.根据权利要求17的方法,其中加热步骤(c)足以使聚合物熔结。
19.根据权利要求16的方法,其中加热步骤(c)足以使聚合物熔融、部分熔融或熔结。
20.根据权利要求19的方法,其中加热步骤(c)足以使聚合物熔结。
