Description

Communication terminal and method for requesting to expand discontinuous reception parameters
Technical Field
The present invention relates to the field of communications technologies, and in particular, to a communication terminal and a method for requesting extension of discontinuous reception parameters.
Background
A protocol stack (protocol stack) of the existing communication system includes an Access Stratum (AS) protocol and a Non-Access Stratum (NAS) protocol. The AS protocol is a protocol adopted by a radio access network, and may be applied to various communication systems including a Long Term Evolution (LTE) System, a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), and the like. AS protocols in UMTS systems include, for example, radio interface protocol, Iub protocol and Iu protocol. The NAS protocol handles information transmission between the user equipment and the core network, and the transmitted content may be user information or control information.
In the existing communication terminal system, the AS protocol may know whether the network of the cell in which the AS protocol is located supports extended Discontinuous Reception (DRX) through a system information message from the cell (cell). However, the NAS protocol cannot know whether the current network supports extended DRX. Therefore, if the communication terminal supports extended DRX, the NAS protocol always requests extended DRX parameters from the network by including an extended DRX parameter Information Element (IE) in the request Information, regardless of whether the network of the cell in which the network is located supports extended DRX.
Specifically, the system information message is transmitted by a communication base station of the cell. DRX refers to the mobile device turning off the transmitter when not communicating with the network, which can enter a power saving mode. The existing communication standard comprises a plurality of traditional DRX technologies, and the extended DRX technology is developed by improving the traditional DRX technologies. Extended DRX has more functionality than conventional DRX, which may further save power.

Detailed Description
The embodiment of the invention provides a communication terminal and a method for requesting to expand DRX parameters, which do not include redundant information in a request message sent by an NAS protocol, thereby reducing the capacity of the message sent by the NAS protocol and improving the network transmission efficiency.
In order to make the aforementioned objects, features and advantages of the present invention comprehensible, embodiments accompanied with figures are described in detail below. The invention will now be described with reference to specific examples. Accordingly, the disclosed embodiments should not be construed as unduly limiting this invention.
An embodiment of the present invention provides a communication terminal 100, which supports extended DRX. The communication terminal 100 confirms whether a request message transmitted to the current network includes an extended DRX parameter information element based on determining whether the current network supports extended DRX. Referring to fig. 1, the communication terminal 100 includes a receiver 102, a processor 104, and a transmitter 106.
The receiver 102 is configured to receive a first message, where the first message includes information whether a network in which the communication terminal 100 is located supports extended DRX. In one embodiment, the first message may be a system information message transmitted by the base station of the current cell to the communication terminal 100. The receiver 102 obtains the system information message, so that the AS protocol in the system of the communication terminal 100 can obtain the system information message, and obtain information whether the network in which the communication terminal 100 is located supports extended DRX from the system information message.
The processor 104 is configured to determine whether the network supports extended DRX according to the first message, and determine whether a request message sent to the network includes an extended DRX parameter information element according to a determination result. In one embodiment, the NAS protocol in the system of the communication terminal 100 acquires the first message (i.e., the system information message) through the AS protocol, so that the NAS protocol acquires information whether the network supports extended DRX. Then, the NAS protocol determines, through the processor 104, whether the network supports extended DRX according to the system information message, so as to determine whether a request message sent to the network includes an extended DRX parameter information element.
In one embodiment, if the network does not support extended DRX, the NAS protocol determines, by the processor 104, that a request message sent to the network does not include an extended DRX parameter information element; if the network supports extended DRX, the NAS protocol determines, by the processor 104, that a request message sent to the network includes an extended DRX parameter information element.
In some embodiments, the request message comprises an attach (attach) request message, a routing area (routing area) update request message, or a tracking area (tracking area) update request message. In some embodiments, the extended DRX parameter information element includes 3 octets (octets) for requesting extended DRX parameters from the base station of the current cell.
In some embodiments, the attach request message is applied to an attach procedure, and after the communication terminal is powered on, the communication terminal registers to a network where the communication terminal is located through the attach procedure. And after the attachment process is finished, the base station of the network acquires the position of the communication terminal.
In some embodiments, the routing area update request message is applied to a routing area update procedure by which the communication terminal updates the location of the communication terminal to the network in which the communication terminal is located. In some embodiments, the communication terminal may perform the routing area update procedure periodically. In some embodiments, the communication terminal performs the routing area update procedure when the communication terminal moves from one routing area to another routing area. Wherein the routing area comprises a plurality of communication cells.
In some embodiments, the tracking area is applied to an LTE system, equivalent to the routing area. And the communication terminal in the LTE system updates the position of the communication terminal to the network where the communication terminal is located through a tracking area updating process. In some embodiments, the tracking area update procedure may be performed periodically by the communication terminal. In some embodiments, the communication terminal performs the tracking area update procedure when the communication terminal moves from one tracking area to another. Wherein the tracking area comprises a plurality of communication cells.
The transmitter 106 is configured to transmit the request message to the network. In one embodiment, if the network supports extended DRX, the request message sent by the NAS protocol via the transmitter 106 includes an extended DRX parameter information element; if the network does not support extended DRX, the request message sent by the NAS protocol via the sender 106 does not include an extended DRX parameter information element.
The embodiment of the invention also provides a method 200 for requesting to extend the DRX parameter. The method 200 is based on determining whether the current network supports extended DRX to confirm whether a request message sent to the current network includes an extended DRX parameter information element. Referring to fig. 2, the method 200 includes the following steps.
202, receiving a first message, wherein the first message includes information whether the current network supports extended DRX. In one embodiment, the first message may be a system information message, which is transmitted by the base station of the current cell to the communication terminal.
And 204, judging whether the network supports extended DRX according to the first message, and determining whether a request message sent to the network comprises an extended DRX parameter information element according to a judgment result. In one implementation, if the network does not support extended DRX, determining that a request message sent to the network does not include an extended DRX parameter information element; determining that a request message transmitted to the network includes an extended DRX parameter information element if the network supports extended DRX.
In some embodiments, the request message comprises an attach request message, a routing area update request message, or a tracking area update request message. In some embodiments, the extended DRX parameter information element includes 3 octets for requesting extended DRX parameters from the base station of the current cell.
206, sending the request message to the network. In one embodiment, if the network supports extended DRX, the request message sent includes an extended DRX parameter information element; and if the network does not support the extended DRX, the sent request message does not comprise an extended DRX parameter information element.
To describe the method for requesting the extended DRX parameter in more detail, the present invention further provides a specific embodiment. Referring to fig. 3, a method 300 for requesting extended DRX parameters enables a NAS protocol to determine whether a current network supports extended DRX by enabling the NAS protocol to acquire information about whether the current network supports extended DRX from an AS protocol, so that the NAS protocol can determine whether an extended DRX parameter information element is included in a request message sent to the current network. The method 300 includes the following steps.
301, the communication terminal system 310 acquires a system information message from the current network 311, so that the AS protocol 312 in the communication terminal system 310 acquires information whether the current network 311 supports extended DRX from the system information message.
303, the NAS protocol 314 obtains the information whether the current network 311 supports the extended DRX or not through the AS protocol 312.
305, the NAS protocol 314 determines whether the current network 311 supports extended DRX according to the information.
307, the NAS protocol 314 determines whether the request message currently sent by the network 311 includes an extended DRX parameter information element. In one embodiment, if the current network 311 does not support extended DRX, the NAS protocol 314 determines that the request message sent to the current network 311 does not include an extended DRX parameter information element; if the current network 311 supports extended DRX, the NAS protocol 314 determines that the request message transmitted to the current network 311 includes an extended DRX parameter information element.
309, the NAS protocol 314 sends the request message to the current network 311. In an embodiment, if the current network 311 supports extended DRX, the request message sent by the NAS protocol 314 includes an extended DRX parameter information element; if the current network 311 does not support extended DRX, the request message sent by the NAS protocol 314 does not include an extended DRX parameter information element.
The embodiment of the invention provides a communication terminal and a method for requesting to expand DRX parameters. If the current network does not support the extended DRX, even if the communication terminal supports the extended DRX, the NAS protocol does not add the extended DRX parameter information element in the sent request message. In this way, the message sent by the NAS protocol may not include redundant information, thereby reducing the capacity of the message sent by the NAS protocol and improving the network transmission efficiency.
Although the present invention is disclosed above, the present invention is not limited thereto. Various changes and modifications may be effected therein by one skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
