Fig. 1 is a block diagram of a status display device according to an embodiment of the invention. As shown, the status display device 100 of the solid state disk includes a non-volatile memory 10, a first control unit 20, a firmware 30 and a light emitting unit 40. The non-volatile memory 10 may be a flash memory in a solid state disk, which can be written and erased many times. The first control unit 20 may be a controller in a solid state disk, and the light emitting unit 40 is electrically connected to the first control unit 20 and may include a light emitting diode. The nonvolatile memory 10 and the first control unit 20 are assembled in the solid state disk, the firmware 30 is software embedded in a hardware device, which is a program code stored in the nonvolatile memory 10 and can be executed by the first control unit 20, and the light emitting unit 40 can be embedded around the outside of the solid state disk.
When the computer host wants to write a file into the solid state disk, the solid state disk can transmit a file writing command to the firmware 30 through the SATA connection line, the firmware 30 transmits at least one first command 31 to the first control unit 20 according to the file writing command, and the first control unit 20 performs a first action 21 on the nonvolatile memory 10, wherein the first command 31 is a writing command at this time, and the first action 21 is a direct writing action on the nonvolatile memory 10.
While the first actuation 21 is executed, the first control unit 20 may also control the light emitting unit 40 to perform the first light emitting behavior 41 according to the first command 31, wherein the first light emitting behavior 41 may be a light emitting behavior designed for a write command, such as flashing the light emitting unit 40 three times per second, or matching the light emitting power to present different colors and color levels.
The above embodiment is exemplified by a file write command, and the present invention can also be applied to a file read command, which is similar to the operation of the file write command, except that the first command 31 is a read command, the first action 21 is a direct read action on the nonvolatile memory 10, and the first lighting action 41 preset for the read command, wherein the first lighting action 41 is controlled by a transmission interface 61, and the transmission interface 61 can include UART, SPI, or I2C.
In the present embodiment, the light emitting unit 40 preferably emits light according to a hard disk detection information (s.m.a.r.t.). In detail, the hard disk detection information monitored in the firmware 30 may include an access lifetime of the solid state disk, a read/write error rate, a temperature, and an erase error, and a second light-emitting behavior 42 is defined for the different hard disk detection information. Therefore, the user can easily know what the current state of the solid state disk is by only observing the light emitting behavior displayed by the light emitting unit 40.
In the embodiment of the present invention, the light emitting unit 40 may display the content of the hard disk detection information, and also display other information of the firmware 30, such as standby information or a connection error information, where the former is used to indicate that the current solid state disk is in an inoperative state, and the latter is used to indicate that the signal connection line between the computer host and the solid state disk is not perfectly connected.
FIG. 2 is a block diagram of a status display apparatus according to a first embodiment of the present invention. Please refer to the reference numerals and their descriptions in fig. 1. In the present embodiment, a second control unit 50 is further included, wherein the second control unit 50 is a microcontroller and has a hybrid function of storage and operation.
In the present embodiment, the read/write operations on the nonvolatile memory 10 are the same as those in the above embodiments, and therefore are not described herein again. The difference between the above embodiments is that the firmware 30 can transmit the first command 31 including the read/write command to the second control unit 50, and the second control unit 50 controls the light emitting unit 40 to perform the first light emitting action 41 according to the first command 31. In addition, the firmware 30 may also transmit the hard disk detection information, the link error information or the standby information to the second control unit 50, and the second control unit 50 controls the light emitting unit 40 to perform a second light emitting action 42.
In the above embodiment, the first control unit 20 needs to control the light-emitting unit 40 to emit light in addition to the reading/writing operation of the nonvolatile memory 10, which may reduce the access efficiency of the solid-state hard disk during reading and writing. On the contrary, in the embodiment, the second control unit 50 is exclusively responsible for the light emitting operation of the light emitting unit 40, so that the operation load of the first control unit 20 can be effectively reduced, and the read/write access efficiency of the solid state disk can be further improved. Furthermore, since the second control unit 50 also has a storage device on which different light-emitting behaviors can be stored for more different instructions or error information, the first light-emitting behavior 41 and the second light-emitting behavior 42 that can be generated are also diversified, for example, the light-emitting colors and the flashing frequencies of the light-emitting diodes are mixed to generate diversified light-emitting behaviors.
FIG. 3 is a block diagram of a status display apparatus according to a second embodiment of the present invention. Please refer to fig. 1 and fig. 2. In the embodiment, the firmware 30 can transmit the first command 31 to the first control unit 20, and when the first control unit 20 receives the first command 31, the first control unit can perform the first action 21 on the nonvolatile memory 10 according to the first command 31 and transmit the first command 31 to the second control unit 20 at the same time. After receiving the first command 31, the second control unit 50 may control the light emitting unit 40 to perform the first light emitting action 41, wherein the first command 31 may include a read command or a write command to the nonvolatile memory 10.
On the other hand, the firmware 30 may also transmit the second instruction 32 to the first control unit 20, and then the first control unit 20 transmits the second instruction 32 to the second control unit 50, at this time, the second control unit 50 may control the light-emitting unit 40 to execute the second light-emitting behavior 42, where the second instruction 32 may include the hard disk detection information, the standby information, or the information related to the link error information detected by the firmware 30, and the related operation manner and the efficacy thereof are described in the above embodiments, and therefore, they are not described herein again.
