Abstract

El invento se refiere a métodos, usos y productos que pueden ser usados para reducir las pérdidas de nutrientes, particularmente de sistemas de granja. Los nutrientes son generalmente esos excretados por un animal. En aspectos preferidos el invento se refiere a métodos, usos y material vegetal, para reducir la tasa en que los compuestos nitrogenados excretados en la orina de un animal se pierden del uso práctico. Los mecanismos de pérdida pueden involucrar nitrificación y posiblemente desnitrificación, para producir compuestos que pueden ser lixiviados y/o liberados a la atmósfera como compuestos gaseosos. Este invento tiene una aplicación particular para animales domesticados, específicamente ovejas y vacas, sin embargo esto no debería ser visto como limitante.
