Description
Electric radiator with a heating conductor embedded in a stone mass. Electric heating elements are known in which the electric heating conductor is embedded in a stone mass which is pressed into grooves in a metal body. For example, electric hotplates are made in this way. One difficulty that one finds with these radiators is the insulation of the heating conductor against the metal plate with damp stone mass. The interposition of an insulating layer of mica between the metal plate and stone mass is known for this.
However, this has the disadvantage that it does not allow the layers to adhere to one another sufficiently intimately so that the heat transfer from the stone mass to the metal plate is impaired.
This disadvantage is avoided in the subject matter of the present invention in that the insulation is carried out by a glaze layer which is present on the groove surface of the metal body and which is an internal. The stone mass can nestle and stick to the metal body, which ensures good heat transfer with good insulation. In the drawing, an execution example of the subject invention is shown in an electric hotplate. a is a cast plate, the lower side of which is seen with a spiral groove. b is the heating conductor, which is embedded in a stone mass c.
This has been pressed into the groove of the metal body a while it is still soft, dough-like. The latter is provided with an enamel layer d (or another glaze) on the groove surface, i.e. on the side facing the stone mass.
- In order to bring about a very intimate connection of the stone mass with the enamel layer d, it is expedient to apply a heavy, insulating powder to the latter in its molten state, such as. B: Quartz sand, fireclay powder, etc., sprinkled on. This gives it a rough surface to which the stone mass adheres, namely when the stone mass is pressed wet.
This also makes a press plate superfluous, as was previously necessary to press the stone mass against the metal plate.
Instead of one contiguous groove, there can also be several. Such radiators can also be found in other heaters than the one shown.
