Sur le dessin annexé sont représentées,à titre d'exemple, deux formes d'exécution de l'invention: La fig. 1 montre un type ,d'app#areil à règles ouà coulisses en position fermée; La fig. 2 en est la vue en position d'emploi; La fig. 3 montre une autre forme d'exé cution en position fermée; La fig. 4 est la vueen boutde l'appareil représenté sur -la fig. 8; La fig. 5 est la vue, arrière d'une réglette isolée;
Venez im médi afement merejo indrejes eraivousa ttend r eplaceco nve nuequin zecour an tàsi xli eur es".

Les réglettes e sont préférablement enga gées entre ellesà Païde de saillies h et de rainures i ménagées sur leurs côtés de façon à les maintenir dans le même plan et, sur leur face postérieure, elles sont pourvues d'encoches1, dont chacune correspond,à un chiffre marqué sur la face antérieure, ces eu- coches étant destinéesà âtre engagées par une saillie m -arrangée -dans -le cadre (fig. 4);
Appar eil to encrypt. The object of the present invention is an appa.reà à with the aid of which it is possible to encrypt, and conversely to decipher documents in any language by the multiple transposition of letters isolated and by the use of a digital key; .
The device according to the. The present invention consists of a number of sliders mounted to slide in a frame. These rulers poxtent ides., Figures arranged in an order: given, of so that, for each position taken by the rulers for a chosen key , all the rods determines a table of numbers that can be used to transpose the letters of a document to to encrypt.
In the accompanying drawing are shown, to by way of example, two embodiments of the invention: FIG. 1 shows a type, app # areil to rules or to slides in closed position; Fig. 2 is the view in position of use; Fig. 3 shows another form of execution in the closed position; Fig. 4 is the end view of the apparatus shown in FIG. 8; Fig. 5 is the rear view of an isolated slider;
Fig. 6 shows Pappaxeil of fig. 3 partially in position for use, and FIG. 7 is the view of one of the sheets, shelves or cards which can be used in the apparatus according to fig. 3.
In the construction shown in fig. 1 and 2, the device is composed. -a frame comprising two! sides a and b connected by crosspieces c and d and between which are mounted à slide, of, so to can be moved longitudinally, ten -slides e. On eh.% - that slider are marked one at. on the other hand the digits 0 to 9, - these digits being arranged in any desired #or & re and being repeated in the same order.
Each strip can be provided, preferably at one of its ends, with a marker, for example in Roman numerals, serving to the -distin guer of the others, and on each strip is left an empty space which, when the device is in the closed position, takes place below the cross member c which constitutes a fixed mark.
It is useful that the traverse c has a vertical window c \ in order to make it clearer the, # s -as' base when using </ B> -the device.
By moving the -different sliders e, it is -so always possible -to enter in the window c ', the desired number and the device is ready for use when in said window one reads in column the numbers constituting the number that we have, chosen -as die.
In the -cm of the type shown in fig. 1, the key may consist of a ten digit number, but the key itself may consist of a smaller number of digits; in this case, it can be established that the ehiff, .res co, n constituting the key must be considered as repeated in the same order.
For example, in the case of FIG. 2, the apparatus is shown -in sa. use position corresponding to the key 919740. In this way, between the two crosspieces c and d , ten rows and ten columns of digits constituting a ciphering table, i.e. a table which can be used according to any agreed method to distribute the letters of the months (which must be written one after the other without empty spaces between the words eue-, eessifs) of the document to. encrypt in a series of groups, each comprising a number of letters corresponding to the successive digits of the table.
For example, assuming that it has been agreed to read the digits in the - table top to bottom and left to right without taking zeros into account, the digits suc cessive of the table resulting from fig. 2 are- 592476895183762423286etc. and, assuming you have to encrypt the period-., Come and join me immediately I will be waiting for you at the agreed place fifteen during to six o'clock ", we will obtain the following distribution into groups- ,,
Come im medi afement merejo indrejes eraivousa ttend r eplaceco nve nuequin zecour an tàsi xli eures ".
Naturally the last group of letters can include less than what is indicated by the last digit. If writing continues after all the digits of the. table have been used, we start over and do so as many times as necessary.
The groups of letters thus obtained are written in columns on a sheet of squared paper, the columns of which are marked by the numbers 1. à 9 arranged, for example, in the same order in which these digits are found on one of the leagues or columns of the encryption table, this row or column being known conventionally by the correspondents.
Assuming we have. chosen for the columns the arrangement of the sixth line, in view of the fact that the key comprises six digits, we will obtain the following arrangement of the letters:

<tb> 3 <SEP> e <SEP> he <SEP> he
<tb> 2 <SEP> e <SEP> s By writing successively and, for example, by binding at the bottom the letters which are found in the columns marked by 1, < / B> 2 etc., we obtain the period encrypted as follows: ssoemetenrtpvuenàhusaeimerinaqoinojoeir-, iina mietrennzatxeenderdaeleeesrieue-nzeievdeuu.
The letters of the encrypted document may be divided into groups (for example of 5 letters each) in order to make their telegraphic transmission and control more convenient.
A using the same device, and following the reverse route, you can decipher the period when you know the key. For this purpose, a table is formed on a grid sheet, the horizontal lines of which have a number of free spaces equal to to the value of the successive digits of the encrypting table obtained by the displacement strips according to the key chosen. The letters of the document to to decipher are then written from top to bottom in vertical columns which are taken in the order conventionally adopted for on encryption. In lines 1 - orizonfales of the. table, we will then read the letters of the document in their original order.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 3 and 6, the sliding strips are twenty in number and each of them has ten digits (1, -9, 3,... 0 ) arranged in their natural order from left to right.
In this way, by bringing% a given number of one of the strips into the window of the crossbar c, between the right end of the strip and the opposite crossbar d appear to be uncovered as many spaces or frames that the said figure contains units.
Therefore, when the sliders have been moved so to to show in the window of the crosshead c the numbers constituting the agreed key , instead of filling a table encrypting, whose values determine the distribution à to give on a sheet to part, of squared paper, to the letters of the document â, encrypt , one obtains directly on the apparatus a series of spaces arranged in a variable way in which one can write in the agreed order the letters of the document.
In this construction, the key can naturally consist of up to twenty digits. z: l As seen in fig. 6, each ruler moved leaves spaces discovered on the device in which the letters of the document are written one after the other from way- >B> to < / B> obtain their distribution by rows and columns, which makes it possible to proceed in the manner described above and to obtain the quantified period.
In order to be able to perform letter notation on the device itself while allowing the encrypted document to be written comfortably, it is useful to leave behind the strips a space f in which can be inserted -boards, shelves or index cards g (fig. 7) divided into numbered columns of squares, in which the letters are written, which then makes it possible to record the period encrypted by copying said letters in column order.
The strips e are preferably engaged with each other à Paid of projections h and grooves i provided on their sides so as to keep them in the same plane and, on their face posterior, they are provided with notches 1, each of which corresponds, to a number marked on the anterior surface, these notches being intended to </ B > hearth engaged by a projection m -arranged -in -frame (fig. 4);
in this way the rules are set exactly with their numbers in #lonne.
The number of strips and the numbers marked on each strip can of course be changed as well as the construction of the apparatus which is shown simply to as an example.
In taus ras, the type of% pereil detrit makes it possible to perform encryption by transposition, multiple of documents of any language, in a quick and easy way, because the trans position is governed by the numerical view of the figures .
The apparatus according to the present invention still has the advantage that one can employ a digital key which can be held by heart without the need to keep notes. at, forms that can be easily discovered; the key can also be changed easily and is not revealed by the device once it has been: closed.
An apparatus of the type described can be used easily and quickly while allowing about ten billion combinations, and it is practically impossible to find the encryption key .
