Device for starting internal combustion engines by means of an electric motor. It is known that the coupling between an internal combustion engine with its to let electric motor by a pivotable about the electric motor shaft. To act gear, which pushes during the starting process between the pinion of the electric motor and a gear seated on the shaft of the internal combustion engine and mediates the engagement of the two gears. It is fer ner known to move such an intermediate gear by electromagnetic forces.
According to the invention, the intermediate wheel is not driven by direct electromagnetic force action, but by an electromagnetically actuated coupling member, which is only engaged until the intermediate wheel has come into engagement with the two gears.
The design and mode of operation of the new device will be described, for example, with reference to the drawing, the FIGS. 1 and 2 of which show the coupling device in longitudinal and cross-section, while FIG. 3 shows the circuitry of the same. The starting electric motor with its armature a carries on its shaft, which is mounted in the end shield o, (read pinion b. In the same piece o the tilting device e is superimposed, which on the one hand an arm with the intermediate gear d and on the other hand the concentric to Magnet coil lying on the motor shaft / carries .. The two gears b and d are constantly in mesh with one another. The armature shaft (c runs with, large.
Play in the hole in the tilting sleeve e. 1 of the position (with disengaged inter mediate wheel d) in the position shown with solid lines (with engaged intermediate wheel d) can be rotated according to FIG. 1. Slidable in the longitudinal direction of the shaft is the armature disk g to geordriel on the motor shaft, which forms the moving part of the electromagnetic clutch e / g. As soon as this receives current, the disk g is attracted to the liippvoririclitun.- e and tends to take the latter with it.
As soon as the A-lotor starts to turn, the tilting sleeve e is carried along by the disk g, the arm carrying the intermediate wheel d is swiveled from the dash-dotted position to the extended position and thus the intermediate wheel d with the ring gear c brought into engagement, which sits on the shaft of the internal combustion engine.
The circuit will be explained with reference to FIG. The lighting battery m serves as the power source. When the push button k is pressed, the coupling winding f is first excited, so that the disc g is attracted and in the next moment the circuit of the magnet winding h of the switch i is closed, with which the starter motor a is switched on. But even if the contacts of the push button k are not closed one after the other, as shown, but at the same time, one can achieve by dimensioning the attraction paths that the coupling f g leads the switch circuit h i. In order to achieve that the clutch is automatically released after the intermediate gear d has been engaged, the winding f is connected in parallel to the contacts of the switch i.
so it loses power after it is switched on. The mechanical friction between e and g in connection with the magnetic remanence of the iron circuit of the clutch is sufficient, however, so that even after the coil f has been bridged, its force of attraction towards the disk g remains and the rotor a of the motor directly acts as the tilting sleeve when it starts up e takes along until the intermediate gear d engages in the ring gear c.
The automatic safety switch n. Which is located in the circuit l of the switch coil h, serves to prevent the starting electric motor a from being switched on when the internal combustion engine is already running. It is opened by energizing its electric magnet winding as soon as the lighting dynamo coupled to the internal combustion engine q gives the voltage required for that excitation, whereby the circuit 1 of the coil h is interrupted. When the Dyna mo q has a certain voltage, it is automatically switched in parallel with the battery m by means of switch p.
