Abstract
The present invention relates to a piece of jewelery, at least partially made of a composite material comprising an elastomeric matrix in which microfibres are dispersed, said composite material being obtained from a composition comprising between 60% and 95% by weight of at least one elastomer and between 0.1% and 4%, preferably between 0.2% and 2%, more preferably between 0.4% and 1.5%, and still more preferably between 0.5% and 1%, 25% by weight of microfibers, relative to the total weight of the composition.
Description
The present invention relates to jewelry pieces. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such parts.
In the present invention, a piece of jewelry refers to any ornamental object, but also components used in the watch industry or jewelry. More particularly, the invention relates to bracelets, such as watch bracelets.
Etat de la techniqueState of the art
It is already known to make certain components used in jewelry, and more specifically in the watch industry, from a composition comprising an elastomer and fibers. For example, US Pat. No. 7,575,800 discloses a "sliding" horological component, such as a wheel, a cam or a shaft, made of a material comprising a matrix, such as a PTFE resin, and carbon fibers. However, it is specified that the amount of fibers must be greater than 3% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition.
[0004] Patent GB 2 349 239 describes a watch case made of a composite material comprising a polymer matrix and fibers. No composition, however, is indicated. In addition, the specifications of a watch case does not correspond to the specifications of a bracelet for example.
In addition, the polymers or elastomers used so far, are generally not compatible with the standards of the FDA or Reach standard. As a result, parts, such as bracelets, in contact with the skin, are not compatible with these standards either.
An object of the present invention is therefore to overcome these disadvantages by providing jewelry parts to use materials compatible with FDA standards or the Reach standard while having properties to meet their specifications charges.
Divulgation de l’inventionDisclosure of the invention
For this purpose, it is proposed a piece of jewelry, at least partially made of a composite material comprising an elastomeric matrix in which are dispersed microfibers, said composite material being obtained from a composition comprising between 60% and 95% by weight of at least one elastomer and between 0.1% and 4%, preferably between 0.2% and 2%, and more preferably between 0.4% and 1.5%, and even more preferentially between 0.5% and 1.25% by weight of microfibers, relative to the total weight of the composition.
Such a composition provides, particularly during the injection manufacturing process, structures such as watch straps with holes, due to interesting mechanical properties (rigidity) and a good distribution of fibers.
The present invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a piece of jewelery as defined above and comprising the following steps: a) preparation of a composition comprising between 60% and 95% by weight of at least one elastomer and between 0.1% and 4%, preferably between 0.2% and 2%, more preferably between 0.4% and 1.5%, and more preferably still between 0.5% and 1.25% by weight of microfibers relative to the total weight of the composition, b) molding the composition obtained in step a), and c) post-steaming.
Brève description des dessinsBrief description of the drawings
The invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, given by way of example and with reference to the drawings in which FIG. 1reprents simple tensile tests (ISO 37) on samples according to the invention.
Mode(s) de réalisation de l’inventionMode (s) of realization of the invention
According to the invention, the piece of jewelry is made from a composition comprising at least one elastomer and microfibers.
Preferably, the elastomer is chosen from the group comprising nitrile elastomers and fluoroelastomers. Fluoroelastomers are commonly referred to as FKM or FFKM depending on the fluorine content. These elastomers may be used alone or in admixture with other suitable elastomers or types of FKM or FFKM.
[0013] De préférence, l’élastomère est un fluoroélastomère. [0013] Preferably, the elastomer is a fluoroelastomer.
The amount of elastomer is between 60% and 95% by weight, preferably between 70% and 90% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition.
In the present invention, the fibers used are microfibers defined by their average length of between 10 microns and 2 mm and by their average diameter between 50 microns and 0.5 mm.
Advantageously, the fibers are chosen from the group comprising aramid based fibers, wood fibers, glass fibers, carbon fibers and mixtures thereof. Preferably, aramid or Kevlar-based fibers are used. These fibers may be incorporated into a masterbatch. Preferably, the masterbatch is chosen to meet FDA or Reach standards.
Preferably, the average length / mean diameter ratio of the fibers is between 20 and 150 and preferably between 40 and 100. More preferably, short fibers are used, with a mean length / average diameter ratio greater than 50. .
In a particularly preferred manner, the composition may further comprise reinforcing fillers, such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) nanoparticles. The composition preferably comprises between 1% and 50% by weight of PTFE nanoparticles relative to the total weight of the composition. Other reinforcing fillers may be considered such as silica or carbon black.
The composition may also comprise vulcanizing or crosslinking agents specific to the elastomer, and other conventional additives commonly used by those skilled in the field of elastomer-based formulations, and more particularly formulations with fluoroelastomer base. The crosslinking agents may be of the peroxide type, the concentration being optimized according to the practices known to those skilled in the art.
Advantageously, the composition may further comprise a coloring agent, such as a dye or preferably a pigment. Mixtures of dyes and / or pigments can be used.
The piece of jewelery according to the invention is obtained by a method comprising the following steps: a) preparation of a composition as defined above, b) molding the composition obtained in step a) to obtain the desired shape, and c) post-steaming.
The molding can be done by any known method, such as injection or compression. The vulcanization (or cooking) is conducted in a known manner at a temperature generally between 130 ° C and 200 ° C, for a sufficient time that can vary depending on the room, for example between 60 and 300 seconds depending in particular on the cooking temperature, the vulcanization system adopted and the kinetics of vulcanization of the composition.
A piece of jewelry according to the invention has an improved mechanical strength. Furthermore, it has been observed, surprisingly, that the process according to the invention allows an improvement of the manufacturing process, namely a decrease in scrap. In addition, it has been observed a productivity gain with a decrease in the vulcanization time.
The piece of jewelry can be for example a bracelet, including a watch strap. More specifically, a bracelet according to the invention may have particular shapes and cuts and nevertheless meet a stringent specifications in terms of mechanical strength, and more specifically in terms of tensile strength. The present invention makes it possible to use elastomers of the FKM type, compatible with the FDA standards and the Reach standard.
[0025] Exemples Examples
Samples according to the invention were made, one with 0.5% microfibers and the other with 2% microfibers. For comparison, a sample was made without microfiber.
1. The curves representing the stress as a function of the deformation are shown in FIG. 1.
The evolution of the stress is here given for deformations of less than 150%, the deformation range in which the parts generally work at the macroscopic level.
Curve A corresponds to 0% microfibers, curve B corresponds to 0.5% microfibers and curve C corresponds to 2% microfibers.
The increasing rigidity of the introduction of fibers in greater concentration allows the manufacturer using this technology to optimize the mechanical strength of a given structure. However, it appears surprisingly an optimum level of fiber concentration, given by better results relative to the criteria observed, in particular the injectability, the rate of rejects, and the mechanical strength.
