The device has a counter tool (7) and a sealing tool (1) comprising sealing surfaces (2, 3, 6) formed at different tool parts (5, 15), where material of one of the tool part e.g. profile, carrying one of the sealing surfaces is lighter than material of the other tool part carrying other sealing surfaces and is elastically deformable. The former sealing part is formed as a profile accommodated in a groove (4) of the latter tool part, and the seal surfaces are equipped with ribs. The counter tool and the sealing tool are formed as rollers and rotatable around an axis. An independent claim is also included for a method for sealing plastic films.

Description

The invention relates to sealing device for sealing films made of plastic with each other or of films with Einschweissteilen, consisting of a sealing tool and a counter tool.

Such sealing devices are known and used for example in the production of packaging bags. In this case, films are welded together or welding parts such as spouts or valves are welded with films.

In particular, welds on packaging bags for liquid contents must meet two main requirements. On the one hand, they must have a good strength, so that the bag can withstand bumps, for example by falling down, on the other hand, of course, they must be tight. These two properties are related, as explained below.

When producing such welds, apart from the materials to be joined, especially the temperature of the welding tools, their duration of action and the pressure exerted by them on the films pressure prevail. In order to achieve a complete tightness welding is aimed at exerting a relatively high pressure on the films so that the film layers connect seamlessly. This can lead to a reduction of the film thickness, in particular in areas in which different numbers of films are to be joined, for example in side seams of stand-up pouches in the region of the M-shaped bottom insert. With a reduced film thickness is inevitably accompanied by a mechanical weakening, so that tends to a good tightness leads to poor strength and vice versa. This effect is often enhanced by notch effect, which can be caused by material accumulations, which are caused by leakage of plasticized when welding film material on the inside of the weld. This problem is described, for example, in part 2 of the article series "Sie Sienahnaht under the magnifying glass", which appeared in the magazine "Packreport", issue 4/2009. So far, this problem has been met with compromises, for example by setting the applied tool pressure to an average or dividing the sealing process into several process steps. Further known compromises are that thicker or higher quality and therefore more expensive films are used, as would actually be necessary to compensate for the seam reduced by the strength.

To compensate for unevenness of seal points, has also been proposed, for example, by EP538 636A1 to equip a sealing tool with a cushion of an elastic material. For heat transfer to the material to be welded, the pad is brought into contact with a heatable body before each sealing operation.

Basically, the sealing includes both a heating and a subsequent cooling of the materials to be joined, wherein the same or similar tools are used for both processes. Therefore, in this document, the term sealing tool is understood to mean both a heatable and a coolable tool.

Based on this prior art, the present invention, the object of providing a sealing tool, can be produced with the compounds that simultaneously meet the requirements both in terms of strength and tightness, at the same time when using the sealing tool less Compromises have to be made than with the use of known sealing tools.

This object is achieved in that the sealing tool has at least two sealing surfaces, that a first sealing surface and a second sealing surface are formed on different tool parts and that the material of the first sealing surface bearing tool part is softer than the material of the second sealing surface carrying tool part.

When using the inventive sealing tool of the first sealing surface bearing tool part is elastically deformed during the sealing process and thereby limits the pressure exerted by the relevant sealing surface on the material to be joined pressure, so that the strength of the parts to be joined impairing material weakening avoided or at least is reduced. The adjacent sealing surface formed on a harder tool part simultaneously generates a sealing region in which the material to be bonded is less strongly pressed and deformed, so that this sealing region meets high demands on its strength. A further significant advantage of the tool according to the invention is that position and material thickness variations and tool shape tolerances are absorbed by the yielding deformability of the tool part carrying the first sealing surface. Overall, when using the device according to the invention results in a material and energy savings, which leads to a reduction of costs in the production process of film products.

Particular embodiments of the inventive sealing device are described in the dependent claims.

The invention also relates to a method for sealing films made of plastic according to independent claim 11.

Fig. 1 shows a sectional view of a first embodiment of an inventive sealing tool 1. The body 15 of the sealing tool 1 has not shown means for heating or cooling of the sealing tool 1. The sealing tool has two sealing surfaces 2 and 3, which lie in the same plane and are separated by a longitudinal groove 4. In the longitudinal groove 4, a profile 5 is inserted from a rubber-elastic material, which in the figure downwardly facing surface forms a further sealing surface 6. The body of the sealing tool 1 is preferably made of a metal, for example an alloy containing as a main component steel, copper or aluminum. The material of which the profile 5 is made, must be so heat-resistant that it can withstand the temperature to which the sealing tool 1 is heated for a long time. In addition, this material must be elastically compressible, as will be explained below with reference to FIG. 2. As can be seen from Fig. 1, the cross section of the longitudinal groove 4 is substantially trapezoidal. In the example according to FIG. 1, the cross-section of the profile 5 is also trapezoidal, so that the profile 5 is held positively in the longitudinal groove 4. In addition, a counter tool 7 is shown schematically in Fig. 1, which in the simplest case has a smooth surface to clamp the parts to be sealed, in particular films 8, 9, between the sealing tool 1 and the counter tool 7, as will be discussed in more detail below is described.

Fig. 2 shows the device according to Fig. 1 in a comparison with Fig. 1vergrösserten scale. The sealing device is shown on the left in the figure in the open state and right in the closed state during a sealing process. As the figure shows, the profile 5 is positively received in said longitudinal groove 4. On the left in the figure, the reference numeral 11 shows the dimension around which the profile 5 with its sealing surface 6 protrudes beyond the sealing surfaces 2, 3 when the tool is unloaded. Reference numeral 10 designates a space into which the profile 5 can deflect when deformed by pressure on the sealing surface 6. Right in Fig. 2, the sealing device is shown closed, as is the case during a sealing process. This means that the sealing surfaces 2 and 3 are so far closer to the counter tool 7 that the films 8 and 9 are pressed against each other with relatively low pressure. Relatively weak in this context means that the foils 8, 9 are not so strongly squeezed even in the plasticized state that the unwanted effects described in the introduction occur. In this way, a sealed seam having a good mechanical strength is obtained. In this state, the profile 5 is elastically compressed so far that its sealing surface 6 is practically flush with the sealing surfaces 2 and 3. The restoring force of the profile 5 has the consequence that the pressure exerted on the films 8, 9 pressure in the region of the sealing surface 6 is greater than in the region of the adjacent sealing surfaces 2 and 3. As a result, in the region of the sealing surface 6 to a flow of the plasticized sheet material in the direction of the film plane, ie in Fig. 2horizontal, because the material under the sealing surface 6 is slightly displaced by the increased pressure. This results in a thorough mixing of the material of both films, whereby the desired tightness of the sealed seam is obtained.

The exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3 is constructed in a similar way to the example explained with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2. Instead of a profile 5 with a trapezoidal cross section, a profile 5 with a circular cross section is installed in this example. Such a profile has the advantage that the sealing surface is initially very small, by practically only one surface line of a circular cylindrical body forming profile 5 comes into contact with the film to be sealed 8, resulting in a relatively high surface pressure result. With the approach of the sealing tool 1 to the counter tool 7 and the simultaneous elastic deformation of the profile 5, the sealing surface 6 increases and consequently the pressure exerted by the latter on the films. Thus, the desired thorough mixing of the material of the two films is achieved quickly, without causing the films are too crushed and thus weakened. A similar effect can be achieved, for example, by a triangular cross-sectional shape of the profile 5, wherein the tip of the triangle faces the counter-tool 7.

Suitable materials for the profile are, for example, silicone rubber VMQ or fluororubber. Also so-called metallic glass is suitable as material for the profile 5. It is indispensable that the material of the profile 5 has a heat resistance so as not to be damaged at the working temperature of the sealing tool 1. In addition, it is desirable that the material also has a good thermal conductivity. Although the materials mentioned have no particularly good thermal conductivity, sufficient heat is introduced in the device according to the invention by the adjacent sealing surfaces 2 and 3 and possibly also by the counter-tool 7 in order to achieve the described advantageous effect. In addition, measures are also known with which the thermal conductivity of the materials mentioned can be improved. An example is given in the cited EP538 636A1.

Fig. 4 shows a variant of the described with reference to FIG. 3 example. In this case, two profiles 5 are arranged parallel to each other in the tool body 15. Further, in this example, the counter-tool 7 is the same as the sealing tool 1. According to another, not shown embodiment, a separating device, not shown, for example, a knife may be provided between the two profiles 5, for example, sealed with the device products simultaneously from a web separate.

The illustrated in Fig. 5 embodiment of the device is intended for welding a Einschweissteils 13 between two sheets 8 and 9. As the figure clearly shows, the counter-tool 7 can in principle be of the same design as the sealing tool 1. All sealing surfaces have a shape that matches the shape of the welding-in part 13.

As shown in FIG. 6, the sealing tool 1 and the counter tool 7 may also be formed as rollers to produce endless sealing seams, for example at the edges of film webs 8, 9. The sealing tool 1 and the counter tool 7 are rotatably arranged on axes 12 in the direction of the arrows 14. By analogy with FIGS. 1 to 3 and 7, of course, a smooth or ribbed roll without an inserted profile can alternatively also be used as the counter-tool 7.

Finally, Fig. 7 shows that both the sealing surfaces 2 and 3 and the sealing surface of the counter tool 7 may have ribs. In this case, preferably opposing ribs of the sealing tool 1 and the counter tool 7 are offset from each other in such a way that the films are deflected zigzag shape with the tool closed and not weakened in thickness.
