The invention relates to a dial for watches according to the preamble of claim 1. For the production of dials for watches, it has been known to make dials of this type from a metallic carrier, such as e.g. a brass foil or sheet, which is coated with a color using printing technology. There are the known printing processes such as screen printing, offset printing or pad printing.
However, the production of metallic dials is relatively complex and in particular does not allow photographic reproduction of motifs on the dial. Another disadvantage of the known dial is that you have to use a relatively thick dial made of the metal foil mentioned in order to obtain sufficient stability against bending, swelling and the like.
In addition, it is known to design the dials in such a way that their material thickness and carrier properties make them suitable for mechanically stabilizing the underlying movement.
The well-known dial thus serves as an upward end of the watch case and also has the function of serving as a mechanical support for the clockwork behind it.
Such dials are also difficult and difficult to use.
The object of the invention is to develop a dial of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that an improved color coating of the dial is ensured with equally good or even improved carrier properties. The technical teaching according to claim 1 serves to solve the problem.
An essential feature of the invention is that for the first time such a dial is designed as a photo dial and, due to its favorable carrier properties, can also be installed without a blank dial. In the case of the dials known hitherto, the aforementioned metal blank generally had to be used, which then only had the appropriate printing layer on its upper side.
The dial presented here according to the invention has a photographic material and is constructed in such a way that it forms high deformation stability with high strength.
A corresponding graphic can be provided by the watch manufacturer for the production of this dial, which is then exposed according to the invention to a 35 mm negative or to a medium format using a computer and an exposure camera.
The exposed document is then transferred from the exposed 35mm negative or medium format to the photographic material used here using a photo printer.
A double-sided adhesive film with a carrier layer is applied to the exposed and developed photographic material in the course of the punching out per dial.
This means that the photo material exposed with the photo motif is in the form of an endless roll and is pulled off a corresponding roll.
The carrier material is fed in from the opposite side and both band-shaped materials are brought together and glued together. In this merged and glued state, they are guided under a ring punch, where the ring-shaped dial is punched out. Of course, the invention is not limited to the production of an annular dial; all shapes can be punched out according to the punch.
The punched-out photo dial with the double-sided adhesive film is removed from the backing material and glued to the dial blank of the respective watch manufacturer or dealer.
Some dealers wish to use such a blank dial, although the invention can avoid this blank. The invention provides that the photo dial can also be supplied without an adhesive layer. In this case, the dial is only on the backing material, without an adhesive layer. The watch manufacturer can then insert this non-adhesive dial directly into the watch. It is inserted directly onto a blank dial or directly onto the movement without using a blank.
It is important in the present invention that the dial consists of the following layer structure.
A preferably white pigmented plastic base carries one or more light-sensitive photo layers which can be color-exposed according to the invention. This photo material, which is applied to the plastic base (preferably made of polyester), is the actual photo dial.
In this version, it can already be punched out accordingly and delivered (non-adhesive), after which the watch manufacturer then uses this photographic material directly as a dial and at the same time as a clockwork carrier in his watch. This photographic material is given mechanical stability by the said plastic base, which is preferably white pigmented.
In a second embodiment, this photo dial can also be provided with an adhesive layer. In this case, it is provided that a first double-sided adhesive layer is initially arranged on a plastic carrier material. A second backing layer, preferably made of a hard plastic, e.g. a PVC material.
A second double-sided adhesive layer is applied to this hard plastic, to which the above-mentioned photo material is then glued. The aforementioned white pigmented plastic base is then glued directly onto the upper double-sided adhesive layer.
It is now important that after the production of this layer structure with a punch, the structure is punched through in such a way that the punch cut extends to the surface of the first carrier material.
This results in a particularly connection-stiff, highly resilient layer that is protected against deformation, the top layer of which - relatively thick layer - forms the photographic material.
It is important here that this self-supporting layer structure of the dial also includes the two previously mentioned double-sided adhesive layers and the previously mentioned hard plastic layer.
This results in the previously mentioned connection-rigid construction, provided that a self-adhesive photo dial is used.
For the first-mentioned exemplary embodiment, however, it is sufficient if, in the case of a non-adhesive photo dial structure, only the aforementioned white-pigmented plastic base is used as a carrier layer for the photo dial. In this case too (with a simplified layer structure compared to the second exemplary embodiment) the connection rigidity is sufficient to use this photo dial as a carrier for clockworks without having to use a dial blank itself.
All of the information and features disclosed in the documents, including the summary, in particular the spatial configuration shown in the drawings, are claimed as essential to the invention, insofar as they are new to the prior art, individually or in combination.
In the following, the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to drawings showing several possible embodiments. Further features and advantages of the invention which are essential to the invention emerge from the drawings and their description.
1: Section through a layer structure of a self-adhesive photo dial. FIG. 2: Section through the structure of a non-self-adhesive photo dial.
1, the self-adhesive photo dial 13 essentially consists of a carrier material 1, which preferably consists of a plastic material with a material thickness of approximately 75 micrometers.
It is a siliconized paper.
A first double-sided adhesive layer 2 is applied to the surface of this carrier material 1 and carries a layer carrier 3 on its surface. The layer support 3 preferably consists of a hard PVC with a total thickness of 30 micrometers.
The layer support is covered at the top by the second adhesive layer 2. Each adhesive layer preferably consists of a polyachrylate with a thickness of 28 micrometers each.
The photo material 4 is now glued onto the top adhesive layer 2, the basic structure of which is shown in section in FIG. 2.
For the final production, a die cut 5 is now carried out through the layer structure, which ends on the surface of the carrier material 1. In this way, the entire photo dial 13 is punched out of this carrier assembly and can be used immediately as a self-supporting component in the watch - without using a dial blank.
In the case of the second embodiment, namely when no self-adhesive photo dial 14 is used, the layer structure according to FIG. 2 comes into play.
It is again pointed out here that the entire photo dial 14 shown in FIG. 2 forms the photo material 4 for the execution of the self-adhesive photo dial 13 according to FIG. 1.
So if a non-self-adhesive photo dial 14 is used, the layer structure with the carrier material 1 and the adhesive layer 2 is dispensed with.
A white pigmented polyester carrier is preferably arranged on a gelatin carrier 7 and takes over the supporting function for the layer structure lying above it. This is because it carries three superposed photo layers 9, 10, 11, of which the photo layer 9 forms the yellow color image, the photo layer 10 the magenta color image and the photo layer 11 the cyan color image. All photo layers are separated from one another by intermediate layers 12, the uppermost cover layer also being designed as an intermediate layer 12.
A photographic material produced in this way with said polyester carrier 8 likewise forms a non-self-adhesive photo dial 14 after a corresponding die cut according to FIG. 1, which can also be used immediately.
It should also be noted that the dials 6 are not yet removed from the base 1 after the die cut 5 has been carried out, but rather are brought to the place of assembly and only at the site of assembly is the dial 6 made of the layer structure according to FIG. 1 detached to be assembled immediately.
Overall, with the two embodiments presented there is the significant advantage that there is now a great freedom to photographically expose such dials and still obtain a stable and connection-free layer structure which allows such a dial to also serve as a carrier for the clockwork ,
