Technisches Gebiet
Technical field
The present invention relates to the field of foam extinguishing systems. It relates to a method for the metered admixture of a foam agent to the water flowing in a water line of a foam extinguishing system, in which method the foam agent is added as a function of the flow rate of the water in the water line by means of an admixing pump. It also relates to a device for performing the method.
State of the art
In fire protection, foam extinguishing systems are increasingly being used, especially in the form of sprinkler systems, particularly where premises or systems are to be protected with electrical or chemical technology. In the event of a fire, such foam extinguishing systems produce extinguishing foam from water and a chemically active foaming agent, which is applied to the source of the fire in a targeted or flat manner in order to prevent the supply of oxygen and thus suffocate the fire. To form the extinguishing foam, the foam agent is generally pumped out of a storage container by means of an admixing pump and added to the water flowing to the extinguishing location in a water supply line.
The foaming agent used to form the extinguishing foam, which is usually in the form of an extract, is very different on the one hand in its consistency (e.g. viscosity) and on the other hand environmentally harmful and aggressive. Care must therefore be taken to ensure that the admixing pump used not only conveys the foaming agent without any problems regardless of the consistency, but can also draw in the foaming agent via the initially empty suction lines. It is therefore also desirable to provide the smallest possible storage quantities for the foaming agent in order to keep the hazard potential low. However, this presupposes that the amount of foaming agent added to the water can be metered exactly - if possible down to a few%.
With the foam extinguishing systems that have been customary to date, various ways have been followed in order to convey an appropriate amount of foam agent and add it to the water depending on the flow rate of the extinguishing water: in one of these ways, a turbine driven by the water is arranged in the water supply line, which is mechanically coupled drives a pump located in the foam agent supply line. However, such a metering device is very imprecise.
In another way, a venturi nozzle (water jet pump) is provided in the water supply line, which draws in the foam agent and brings it directly into the water jet. In this case, too, the dosage is very imprecise because the pumping capacity varies very strongly and non-linearly with the amount of water.
In a third way, a centrifugal pump is finally used as the admixing pump. The centrifugal pump must run at nominal speed due to its pump characteristics, while the effective flow is controlled by a combination of a controllable slide valve and a bypass line. Abge seen from an increased effort, the pressure and volume fluctuations occurring here prevent a continuous and accurate dosing, especially at the edges of the work area.
Presentation of the invention
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a method for metering the foaming agent which enables continuous and accurate metering with reduced effort and can even be retrofitted to existing systems without problems. It is also the task of specifying a device for performing the method.
The object is achieved in a method of the type mentioned at the outset that a volumetric pump is used as the admixing pump, that the flow rate of the water is measured continuously, and that the speed or number of cycles of the admixture pump is controlled in accordance with the measured flow rate of the water.
The essence of the invention is to control the metering of the amount of foam agent as a function of the measured flow rate of the water directly via the delivery rate of the admixing pump, a so-called "volumetric" pump being used as the admixing pump, in which the delivery volume per unit of time is linear from the speed (in the case of rotating pumps) or the number of cycles (in the case of piston pumps or the like), or in other words, in which there is a fixed delivery rate per revolution or cycle. Such volumetric pumps are, for example, gear pumps, screw pumps or piston pumps.
According to a first preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the flow rate of the foaming agent is also continuously measured at the outlet of the mixing pump, and the speed of the mixing pump is regulated in accordance with the measured flow rate of the foam agent. In this way, any fluctuations can be corrected quickly and precisely, so that no major deviations of the dosage from the target value can occur.
Another preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention is characterized in that a screw pump, preferably an eccentric screw pump, is used as the admixing pump. The advantage of such a pump is that it can easily convey foams of very different consistencies.
The device according to the invention for carrying out the method, which comprises a water supply line, a foam supply line opening into the water supply line and an admixing pump arranged in the foam supply line, is characterized in that the admixing pump is a volumetric pump, that a first flow meter is arranged in the water supply line the output of the first flow meter is connected to a first input of a controller, and that an output of the controller is operatively connected to the admixing pump.
A first preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention is characterized in that the admixing pump is designed as a worm pump, preferably as an eccentric worm pump, that the admixing pump is driven by an AC motor, the speed of which depends on the frequency of the AC current, and that between the output of the Control and the admixing pump a frequency converter is arranged. Because of the precise controllability of the frequency, the flow rates can be controlled particularly precisely.
A second preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention is characterized in that the controller is designed as a programmable logic controller (PLC).
With such a control great flexibility and easy adjustability is achieved.
Further embodiments result from the dependent claims.
Brief explanation of the figure
The invention will be explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment in connection with the figure. The single figure shows the wiring diagram of a foam extinguishing system in the form of a sprinkler system according to an embodiment of the invention that has been tried and tested in practice.
Ways of Carrying Out the Invention
The plan shown in the figure shows the basic structure of the line system (solid lines) and the electrical wiring (dashed lines) of a foam extinguishing system 1 according to the sprinkler system. Essential parts of the system are a water supply line 31, which leads to a sprinkler 10 via an alarm valve 22 (the sprinkler 10 here represents a large number of sprinklers, which are usually arranged distributed over the rooms to be protected). The alarm valve 22 opens the inflow to the sprinkler 10 in a manner known per se when there is a temperature increase above a defined threshold value.
The water supply line 31 can be supplied from a water connection 23 via a first manual valve 24, a sprinkler pump 25 and a first check valve 26, or from a main line 28 via a second manual valve and a second check valve 30.
In addition to the water supply line 31, a foam agent supply line 12 is provided, which e.g. comes from a foam agent container, not shown here. The foam agent supply line 12 leads via a third manual valve 13, a third check valve 14, a filter 15 and a first motor valve 16 to the suction side of an admixing pump 17. After the outlet of the admixing pump 17, the foam agent supply line 12 opens into the water supply line 31 after a fourth check valve 20, where the foaming agent is mixed with the water, which then foams as it emerges from the sprinkler nozzle.
A flow meter 27 or 18, which measures the water or foam agent flow, is arranged both in the water supply line 31 and in the foam agent supply line 12 (behind the admixing pump 17). The measured value from the flow meter 27 is passed to a first input of a controller 4, which is accommodated within a switch box 2 and is preferably designed as a programmable logic controller PLC. The controller 4 controls the output frequency of a frequency converter 3 in accordance with the measured water flow rate, which in turn acts on the speed of the drive of the admixing pump 17. In order to achieve control of the amount of foam agent in addition to the control, the output of the flow meter 18 is passed to a second input of the control 4, so that a control loop is formed.
The amount of foaming agent added, based on the amount of water, is usually below 10%, e.g. 6% with a fluctuation of max. 5% of the dosage.
So that the control of the speed of the pump drive results in an accurate and reliable metering of the amount of foam, the admixing pump 17 is designed as a volumetric pump, in which the delivery rate depends linearly on the speed. A so-called eccentric screw pump is preferred because of the robustness and versatility. Such a pump works according to the rotating displacement system, i.e. it is self-priming and its output and flow rate depend on the drive speed. It rotates a rotor as a single-start round thread with a high pitch and large thread depth in a counterpart, the stator. The rotation inevitably shifts the existing delivery spaces between the stator and rotor in the axial direction while maintaining the shape and volume.
This results in an almost pulsation-free flow, so that even highly viscous materials can be easily transported in a self-priming manner. Such an eccentric screw pump is e.g. distributed by the applicant in Switzerland.
To protect the admixing pump 17 and the corresponding lines and fittings from occurring overpressures, a bypass line 33 provided with a second motor valve 19 is installed parallel to the pump, which is operatively connected to an overpressure switch 32 arranged behind the pump and is opened when a dangerous overpressure occurs, so that the pump can work in a closed circuit. In normal operation, however, the bypass line 33 is closed.
To clean the foam agent lines after an extinguishing insert, a flushing line 6 can additionally be provided, with which flushing water can be passed through the line from the admixing pump 17 to the fourth check valve 20 via a fourth manual valve 7, an electrically operated flushing valve 8, and a fifth check valve 11 . The rinse water can then be drained into a drain tank (not shown) via a drain line 21 equipped with an electrically operated drain valve 9.
The various electrically operated valves are electrically connected to the switch box 2, which in turn is connected to a network by an electrical supply line 5.
Overall, the invention results in a foam extinguishing system in which the foam agent is self-priming and can be metered with much greater accuracy regardless of the foam agent consistency. The direct regulation and control via the speed of the pump drive also results in a significant simplification of the line system with a corresponding reduction in the system costs.
