Abstract

The top of the writing implement is equipped with a magnifying glass (7) which has its surround (9) hinged to a ring (1) fixed to the implement by claws embedded in its surface. A flexible catch enables the ring to be held in place while the magnifying glass is lifted away from the ring for use. The retaining ring which holds the magnifying glass on the pen top can have a base which is used to carry an inscription. The hinge is in the form of lugs (5,6,11) with holes for a pivot screw (12).

Description

The present invention relates to writing instruments such as pens, feathers, pencils, ballpoint pens, etc. This writing instrument is distinguished by the features of claim 1.

The accompanying drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example two embodiments of the writing instrument according to the invention.

Fig. 1 is a partial view of the rear part of a pencil or pen provided with a first embodiment of the device according to the invention, the magnifying glass being in the open service position.

Fig. 2 illustrates on a larger scale this same end of the pencil, the magnifying glass being in the closed position.

Fig. 3 is a view on a larger scale and partially in section of the rear end of the pencil, the magnifying glass being completely folded down.

Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the rear part of a pencil provided with a second embodiment of the device according to the invention.

The present invention relates to an instrument for writing such as a pen, ball-point pen, quill pen, pencil, etc. comprising at one of its ends, the front end, a writing device, lead, ball, feather beak, etc.

The instrument according to the present invention comprises at its other end, the rear end, a magnifying glass mounted on a fixing part. This accessory allows the user to always have a magnifying device with him, which is very useful.

This device comprises a fixing piece 1 fixed in any suitable manner on the rear end of the writing instrument 2. This fixing can in particular be obtained by gluing, welding, or even that the piece 1 has embedded sealing lugs in the mass of the rear end 2 of the instrument.

In the example illustrated, this part 1 is circular in shape, it has a bottom 1a, a cylindrical wall 3 and an internal groove 4. The external shape of this fixing part 1 can be identical or different from that of the end back of the writing instrument 2.

This fixing part 1 also comprises a hinge part formed by two hinges 5, 6, one of which 5 is pierced with a hole while the other 6 has a thread.

The bottom 1 a can have on its visible face an engraving, a decoration, a mark or a distinctive or decorative emblem.

The magnification device also comprises a magnifying glass 7 housed in a bore 8 of a frame 9 and held in place by means of a crimped ring 10. The frame 9 comprises another hinge part 11 cooperating with the hinges 5, 6 of the fixing piece. This part 11 is placed between the hinges 5 and 6 and has a bore which is located in alignment with the bore and the thread of these hinges. A screw 12 constitutes the axis of the hinge thus connecting the mount 9 in an articulated manner to the fixing part 1.

In the closed service position, the magnifying glass 7 is folded down on the fixing part 1, as illustrated in FIG. 2, and is held in this position using a lug 13, the end of which snaps into the groove 4 of the fixing part 1.

In the open service position, the mount is pi-voted around the hinge 5, 6, 11, 12 and the magnifying glass can be used, as illustrated in fig. 1.

In the second embodiment, the optical magnification device consists of a magnifying glass 20 held by a ring 21 in a housing 22 of a frame, for example circular, having a shoulder 23 and an opening 24. This frame has a cylindrical part 25 receiving the magnifying glass 20 and a hexagonal part 26 intended to fit onto the rear end of a pencil or pen 2 of the same section.

In a variant, it is obvious that the part 26 of the frame could also be cylindrical or have another shape corresponding to the rear end of the writing instrument on which it must be fitted. The dimensions of this part 26 of the frame are such that its retention on the rear end of the writing instrument is obtained by the friction forces.

Claims 1. A writing instrument, characterized in that it comprises, mounted on its rear end, an optical magnification device. 2. Instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that the optical magnification device comprises a fixing part secured to the front face of the rear end of the instrument and a frame, articulated on this fixing part to the using a hinge, used to support a magnifying glass. 3. Instrument according to claim 2, characterized in that the magnifying glass is housed in a bore of the frame and held in place by means of a ring. 4. Instrument according to claim 2 or 3, characterized in that the frame comprises a closing lug whose end cooperates, in the closed position, with a corresponding formation of the fixing part. 5. Instrument according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the fixing part has a bottom provided on its visible face with an inscription. 6. Instrument according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the fixing part and the frame are of generally cylindrical or prismatic shape. 7.
