Die heute erhältlichen Kerzenständer haben eine feste Grösse bzw. eine fixe Anzahl sogenannter Tellerchen (oder Pfännchen), in welche die Kerzen gesteckt werden können. In der Regel können einzelne Kerzenständer nicht beliebig kombiniert werden. Nachträgliche Anpassungen der Kerzenständer aufgrund geänderter Anforderungen oder Wünsche sind nicht möglich. Früher wurden Kerzenständer vor allem bei kirchlichen Zeremonien oder schlicht zu Beleuchtungszwecken eingesetzt. Die veränderte Nutzung der Kerzenständer hat nun dazu geführt, dass heute eine Vielzahl von Einzel- und Mehrfachkerzenständern in den verschiedensten Stilrichtungen und Dimensionen angeboten werden. Diese Kerzenständer lassen sich aber kaum kombinieren, da sie sich zu stark voneinander unterscheiden. Und sie lassen sich auch nicht erweitern; ein Mehrfachkerzen-ständer für fünf Kerzen kann zum Beispiel nicht aus einem Kerzenständer für zwei und einem für drei Kerzen zusammengesetzt werden. Gerade beim Dekorieren erfährt man diesen Nachteil immer wieder. Es existieren zwar Einzelkerzenständer, die als Set oder auch einzeln in mehreren Grössen (kurz, mittel, hoch), mit geradem oder geschwungenem Stiel, erhältlich sind. Diese können beliebig nebeneinander gestellt werden. Das setzt allerdings voraus, dass man von den jeweiligen Grössen eine genügende Anzahl vorrätig hat, will man einen besonderen Effekt erzielen. Ein stilistisch nicht zu unterschätzender Nachteil dieser Sets ist der, dass sich die einzelnen Kerzenständer nicht besonders phantasievoll anordnen lassen. Der Kerzenhaltearm 2 (Fig. 1) bildet das Grundelement des neuen erweiterbaren Kerzenständers 1 weist im wesentlichen die Form eines abgekröpften Stabes auf. Mehrere dieser Kerzenhaitearme 2 können nun in beliebiger Anzahl miteinander verbunden werden (Fig. 2, Fig. 3). Um dies zu ermöglichen, ist im unteren Bereich des Grundelementes eine senkrechte Stecköffnung 3 als nicht durchgehende Bohrung vorgesehen, in welche der nach unten herausragende Steckbolzen 4 des benachbarten Kerzenhaltearmes gesteckt wird, wie dies in Fig. 2 veranschaulicht ist. Der Winkel 5, in dem die Stecköffnung 3 bzw. der Steckbolzen 4 gegenüber der imaginären Achse 6 liegen, wird so gewählt, dass bei zusammengesteckten Kerzenhaltearmen 2 jedes Einstecktelierchen 7, in welches die Kerze 8 gesteckt wird, waagrecht ausgerichtet ist. Die Kerzenhaitearme aus Glas oder Keramik weisen eine Eigenart auf: Deren Steckbolzen ist als separater Kunststoff- oder Holzsteckbolzen 13 (Fig. 1) ausgeführt, besteht also nicht aus demselben Werkstoff wie der Kerzenhaltearm selbst. Der Grund ist hinreichend bekannt, können doch ineinander gesteckte Glas- oder Keramikteile nur schwer voneinander gelöst werden, ohne dass sie brechen oder zerspringen. Jeder, der schon Gläser ineinanderge-stellt hat, kann diese Tatsache bestätigen. Will man jedoch aus ästhetischen oder fertigungstechnischen Gründen keinen separaten Steckbolzen 13, so wird man in die entsprechend grösser angefertigte Stecköffnung 3 eine Kunststoffhülse 14 (Fig. 1) einlassen, welche den Steckbolzen 4 aus Glas oder Keramik aufnimmt. So ist gewährleistet, dass sich das Glas bzw. die Keramik nicht berühren und die Kerzenhaitearme 2 ohne Schwierigkeiten voneinander getrennt werden können. Besteht die dazu passende Stütze 10, 12 aus Glas oder Keramik, wird auch diese mit einer solchen Kunststoffhülse versehen.
