Abstract

The tool for shaping the curved tip of a dental root canal instrument consists of a base (1), e.g. cylindrical in shape with a knurled edge (4), on which two rods (2,3) are mounted. One of the rods is cylindrical, and the other is in the shape of a truncated cone, fixed to the base by its smaller end, so that the gap between the two rods decreases away from the surface of the base. The tip of the dental instrument is inserted between the two rods and moved along them until it wedges, after which the tool and instrument tip can be rotated relative to one another until the desired degree of curvature is obtained. The dimensions of the tool can be, for instance: base - 20mm diameter and 8mm thick; rods - 15mm long, with the cylindrical rod 4mm in diameter and the truncated conical one 5.4mm where it joins the base and 8mm at its free end.
