The present invention relates to a foundry installation with a device for treating the cooling water and more particularly to a foundry shell comprising a device for treating the cooling water by electric field.
The foundry shells comprise water cooling devices which are intended on the one hand to cool by spraying water the walls of the casting material, and on the other hand to cool the shell itself. Known magnetic or non-magnetic foundry shells have several disadvantages mainly due to the fact that the cooling water can be charged with acidic or basic mineral elements which have the effect of increasing the conductivity of the water, which leads to an acceleration. corrosion by the aggressiveness of the environment and by galvanic cell effect.
This acceleration of corrosion has the drawback of causing rapid wear of the metal elements constituting the shell, very expensive elements which must therefore be replaced frequently, thus requiring frequent immobilization of the installations, all of which contributes to increasing production costs. The sprinkling of water loaded with acidic or basic mineral elements against the walls of the casting material has the further disadvantage of modifying the surface state of the walls of the casting blocks which can for example cause micro- cracks. In the case of magnetic shells, the acceleration of corrosion by the aggressiveness of the medium and by cell effect is still activated by the magnetic field of the shell, which has the additional disadvantage of increasing the frequency of replacement of the elements. defective metal.
With known installations, the cooling water can be partly treated with inhibiting chemicals, but this type of treatment has several drawbacks. In the case of installations with open cooling circuits, the chemical treatment of the discharged water is too costly. In the case of closed-circuit installations, the cooling water can be gradually charged with mineral elements upon contact with the walls of the molten material and the gradual change in the composition of the water, and the treatment of the water by chemicals does not validly guarantee the stability of the composition of the cooling water.
The object of the present invention therefore consists in remedying the aforementioned drawbacks. The cooling circuits, according to the invention which aims to achieve this goal, are connected to a treatment unit which consists in subjecting the cooling water to an electric field which has the effect of treating the water by eliminating the acid mineral elements or basic, which has the important advantage of reducing the costs of treating water in the cooling circuits and more particularly in the case of installations with open cooling circuits. The principle of the invention has the advantage of allowing the elimination of several different mineral elements by very simple and inexpensive changes of elements constituting the treatment device.
In the case of installations with closed cooling circuits the principle of the invention makes it possible to guarantee the stability of the composition of the cooling water by the installation of a device for controlling the composition of the water which is directly connected to the processing unit, which allows the progressive elimination of the various mineral elements which come from contact with the casting material, which has the important advantage of constantly guaranteeing the stability of the composition of the cooling water .
The objects are achieved with the principle of the invention as described by claim 1.
The accompanying drawings illustrate schematically and by way of example the principles of the invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 are views respectively in cross section and in plan of a foundry installation with a shell and a water treatment device.
Fig. 3 is a detail view in cross section of a water treatment device mounted on a shell.
Referring first to Figs. 1 and 2, a foundry shell is constituted by longitudinal elements 1 and 1 min and lateral elements 2 and 2 min which form a rigid frame. Molten material is intended to flow against the interior walls of the shell elements and more particularly against deflectors 3 and 3 min shown in FIG. 1. Each of the longitudinal elements 1 and 1 min and 2 and 2 min comprises a cavity which when these elements are assembled constitutes a water chamber 4. The cooling water is introduced into the water chamber 4 by a conduit 6, and escapes through a multitude of small holes 5 and 5 min, made over the entire length of the elements 1, 1 min, 2 and 2 min. The cooling water is thus propelled against the walls of the molten material which flows against the deflectors.
A water treatment device 7 is mounted against a wall of the shell so as to be connected to the water inlet duct 6.
Fig. 3 shows in detail the water treatment device 7 which is mounted on a wall of the shell 1. The example presented shows a magnetic shell which comprises a deflector 3 and an inductor 15. Each longitudinal or lateral element constituting the shell has a water chamber 4. The example shown in fig. 4 is a cross section of a longitudinal element. The cooling water is brought into the water chamber 4 by an inlet duct 6 and is propelled by the ducts 5 which are formed over the entire length of each element. A water treatment device 7 is mounted against the wall of one of the elements constituting the shell so that the water outlet conduit 10 is connected to the conduit 6 of the shell. The cooling water is brought in through the inlet pipe 11.
The processing device 7 comprises one or more anodes 12 and 13 which are connected to the positive pole of a rectifier station. The cathode is constituted by the steel case 8 constituting the base of the device. In the case of a device with two anodes as shown by way of example in FIG. 3, a steel plate is mounted on the housing so as to be located between the two anodes. This steel plate therefore also forms part of the cathode. The cathode is connected to the negative pole of the rectifier. The rectifier is intended to be supplied by an alternating current of 220 volts which is rectified in direct current which supplies the treatment device so as to subject the cooling water to a continuous electric field which causes a galvanic battery effect.
The alkaline or acidic mineral elements are therefore deposited on the cathode or on the anode (s). The alkaline elements are deposited on the cathode. The other elements to be removed are deposited on one or the other of the anodes. In fact, depending on the type of dissolved mineral salts, the material of the anode must be adapted. The multiplication of the number of anodes of different materials makes it possible to multiply the number of different elements to be eliminated. For example, a copper anode allows the elimination of sulfates, an iron anode allows the elimination of chlorides and a magnesium anode allows the elimination of limestone. The fact of eliminating the various elements contained in the cooling water makes it possible to reduce the aggressiveness of the medium and consequently makes it possible to avoid accelerated corrosion of the various elements constituting the shell.
Water treatment also prevents changes in the surface condition of the casting material. A water quality control device 16 is installed so as to constantly control the composition of the water. This device is directly connected to the processing device.
The example shown shows a rectangular foundry shell. The principle of the invention is not limited to this type of shell but can also be adapted to shells of very different shapes, oval, round or square for example.
