Abstract
The butt-joint between sections of railway track (1,2) comprises a parallel key (3) bridging the intervening gap (x) and fitting in keyways (31) machined in the heads of the adjacent rail heads. Both key and keyway can extend into the webs of the rails, to one of which the key is fixed. The keywey width can be greater than the thickness of the web. Slots can first be cut by burner in the webs and then in the heads, the key being then welded to one rail. ADVANTAGE - No noise as vehicles travel over joint.
Description
Fig. 1 zeigt einen Schienenstoss in Ansicht von oben;
Fig. 2 denselben Schienenstoss von der Seite;
Fig. 3 einen Schnitt entlang der Linie III-III in Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 einen Schnitt durch einen Keil;
The invention relates to a rail joint, the purpose of which is to prevent striking noises when driving over the joint. Rail joints are known in which the heads of the rails abutting one another overlap one another at an angle and are separated from one another by an oblique vertical slot (oblique joint). Rail joints are also known in which the heads of the rails abutting one another overlap one another in a step-like manner (leaf joint). Both known solutions have the disadvantage that the heads of the rails are weakened as a result.
The object of the invention is to create a rail joint of this type in which the rail head is weakened as little as possible and in which striking noises when driving over it are avoided.
The invention solves this problem with a rail joint, which has the features of claim 1. The invention also specifies how such a rail joint can be attached to a rail that has already been laid. In the drawing, an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown:
Fig. 1 shows a rail joint in a view from above;
2 shows the same rail joint from the side;
Fig. 3 is a section along the line III-III in Fig. 1;
4 shows a section through a wedge.
Fig. 5 is a side view as in Fig. 2, but without an inserted wedge.
In the event of a rail joint, the rails 1, 2 are laid in such a way that they can expand or contract depending on the prevailing temperature. This leaves a gap X between the rail ends. Driving over this gap generates noise, and the invention aims to prevent this by bridging the gap by means of a plate-shaped wedge 3 inserted into the rails.
For this purpose, a groove 31 is provided at the end of each of the two adjacent rails, in which the plate-shaped wedge 3 is inserted. The groove is preferably so deep that it extends from the rail head 21 into the body 22. The plate-shaped wedge 3 can then be welded to the body of a 2 of the two adjoining rails, it remaining displaceable in the groove of the other rail 1. This means that the rail joint can be run over without chattering noises.
If such a joint is to be attached to new rails to be installed, the grooves can be milled in the workshop and the wedge inserted and welded on. The cutting torch can be used for rails that have already been laid. Then it is particularly advantageous to make the slot wider than the thickness of the rail body. The procedure is to first cut slots out of the body for 31 minutes and only then to cut the groove in the rail head. If the groove is wider than the thickness of the rail body, the cutting flame passes the side of the body so that it is not damaged.
For the sake of clarity, the tabs extending between the rail head 21 and the rail foot 23 are omitted in the drawing. Only the mounting holes 24 required for this are provided.
