- la fig. 1 représente un exemple de réalisation du dispositif de mesure selon l'invention;
- la fig. 2 représente un exemple d'exécution de la pièce mobile aimantée;
- la fig. 3 représente des périodes d'alimentation et de mesure alternées;
DIAMETER 2 = DIAMETER max . cos alpha
DIAMETER 1 = DIAMETER max . cos ( alpha + /2) = - DIAMETER max . sin alpha
alpha = alpha 0 + DELTA alpha . sin omega t
DIAMETER 2 = DIAMETER max . cos ( alpha 0 + DELTA alpha . sin omega t)
DIAMETER 1 = - DIAMETER max . sin ( alpha 0 + DELTA alpha . sin omega t)
U2 = - N . DIAMETER max . sin ( alpha 0 + DELTA alpha . sin omega t) . ( DELTA alpha . omega cos omega t)
U1 = - N . DIAMETER max . cos ( alpha 0 + DELTA alpha . sin omega t) . ( DELTA alpha . omega cos omega t)
alpha = Arc tg (U2/U1)
The present invention relates to a measuring device making it possible to provide, in the form of an electrical signal, the indication of the direction of the earth's magnetic field. The electrical measurement of a magnetic field is very well known by the use of Hall effect probes. However, given the low intensity of the earth's field, such a device is relatively bulky and expensive.
The present invention makes it possible to produce a device of small dimensions and inexpensive, making it possible to detect with good precision the direction of the earth's magnetic field.
The invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, and with reference to the appended drawing, in which:
- fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the measuring device according to the invention;
- fig. 2 shows an exemplary embodiment of the magnetized moving part;
- fig. 3 represents alternating supply and measurement periods;
- fig. 4 shows the measuring device according to the invention in its environment.
Fig. 1 shows an exemplary embodiment of the measuring device comprising an excitation coil EXC, captive coils C1 and C2, pivoting means 1 and a moving magnetic part 2. In the absence of the excitation current in the coil EXC , the moving part 2 is oriented so that its direction of magnetization coincides with that of the earth's field. This direction forms, with that of the magnetic axis of the coil C2, an angle alpha. In this position, the magnetized moving part creates a flux coupled with the coil C2, the expression of which is given by:
DIAMETER 2 = DIAMETER max. cos alpha
PHI max being the maximum flux obtained when the direction of magnetization of the moving part coincides with that of the magnetic axis of the coil C2.
The sensing coil C2 has the same geometry and the same number of turns N as the coil C1 but placed in advance of / 2 with respect to C2, it is crossed by a coupled flux PHI 1 whose expression is given by:
DIAMETER 1 = DIAMETER max. cos (alpha + / 2) = - DIAMETER max. sin alpha
When the excitation coil EXC is crossed by an alternating current of low amplitude and omega pulsation, the moving magnetic part, under the effect of the field created by the excitation coil, oscillates around its initial position. By designating by alpha 0 the initial position of the moving part with respect to the magnetic axis of the coil C2 and by DELTA alpha the amplitude of the oscillation, the instantaneous position of the moving part is given by:
alpha = alpha 0 + DELTA alpha. sin omega t
The excitation coil being placed relatively far from the cap coils C1 and C2, the weaker its field compared to the field created by the magnetized moving part, so that the instantaneous fluxes coupled with the cap coils C2 and C1 are practically given by :
DIAMETER 2 = DIAMETER max. cos (alpha 0 + DELTA alpha. sin omega t)
DIAMETER 1 = - DIAMETER max. sin (alpha 0 + DELTA alpha. sin omega t)
and the voltages induced at the terminals of the coils C2 and C1 are equal to:
U2 = - N. DIAMETER max. sin (alpha 0 + DELTA alpha. sin omega t). (DELTA alpha. Omega cos omega t)
U1 = - N. DIAMETER max. cos (alpha 0 + DELTA alpha. sin omega t). (DELTA alpha. Omega cos omega t)
The position of the magnetized moving part is known at all times by determining:
alpha = Arc tg (U2 / U1)
To increase the coupling between the magnetized moving part and the captive coils C1 and C2, the moving part can be produced according to FIG. 2, in which the moving part is composed of a central magnet 3 and pole pieces made of soft ferromagnetic material 4a and 4b. To reduce the number of coils in the measuring device according to the invention, it is possible to use one or more captive coils as excitation coils. To do this, alternately, over time, supply and measurement periods are created, as illustrated in FIG. 3. During the periods T1, the coils are supplied with an alternating voltage + V or -V; they function as excitation coils and during periods T2, they are placed in open circuit and function as captive coils.
The measuring device according to the invention operates in an environment comprising a control module making it possible to supply the excitation pulses, a calculation module making it possible to process the signals coming from the captive coils and a display module for the user ( fig. 4).
The display of the direction of the terrestrial field can be carried out in a conventional form, that is to say a dial provided with a movable hand or a digital display using a liquid crystal screen. However, for certain applications such as for example an electronic compass integrated in a watch of small dimensions, the installation of a display module of the conventional type is not always possible for lack of space.
In this case, the direction of the earth's field can be indicated by an acoustic signal or a light point when the alpha position is equal to a particular value (for example alpha = 0).
