The invention relates to cold-curing, flexible and / or elastic epoxy resin compositions, in particular for gluing or sealing dilation joints or for the production of coverings, and a method for producing these epoxy resin compositions.
Due to their advantageous elongation at tear, the compositions according to the invention are suitable for flexible or / and elastic adhesive bonding, for sealing dilatation joints or for producing elastic coatings.
The epoxy resins are usually made from dian (2,2-bis (4-hydroxyphenyl) propane) and epichlorohydrin (1,2-epoxy-3-chloropropane) in a basic medium. The epoxy resins are made up of linear oligomer molecules.
The molecular size determines whether the polymer is liquid, low viscosity or solid at room temperature. The liquid and solid epoxy resins usually experience a conversion to polymers with a cross-linked structure due to their epoxy groups at the chain end (at room temperature) or the hydroxyl groups inserted into the chains (in the heat). The crosslinked epoxy resins have excellent physical and chemical properties, which is why they also have numerous industrial applications. The liquid "cold-curing" epoxy resins are used for the surface protection of various materials (metals, concrete, wood), for gluing, for insulation in the electrical industry, for the production of coatings in the building industry, of glass fiber reinforced plastics. The "thermosetting" solid epoxy resins mainly serve as binders in the paint industry.
The previously known epoxy resins are usually hard and tough after crosslinking and can therefore not be used for numerous purposes where flexibility and elasticity are required.
In the past decades, attempts have been made to make the epoxy resins more flexible, or to make them elastic, but due to their insufficient degree of flexibility or elasticity, they have not been able to spread widely.
Two ways are generally known for making the epoxy resins more flexible. The so-called external softening (such as di-butyl phthalate) increases flexibility, but the chemical resistance of the cross-linked product, and therefore the product quality, is greatly reduced.
In the case of so-called internal softening or flexibilization, the chemical structure of the epoxy resin is modified in such a way that the chain length of the polymer segments increases, as a result of which a more flexible or elastic polymer with a lower crosslinking density is achieved. The internal flexibility of the epoxy resins can take place in the epoxy resin itself, but also in the crosslinking component. The best known type of flexible epoxy resin is made from epichlorohydrin and polyglycols (Potter: Epoxide Resins, p. 126. Iliffe Books, London).
However, the stretch of such flexible epoxy resins is only 10-30% greater than that of the hard, tough epoxy resins. With a flexible crosslinking agent, e.g. Poly azelaic acid or its anhydride can also be made into a flexible epoxy resin, but it is thermosetting (GB 1 016 354). The poly (aminoamides) based on dimerized fatty acids also result in a low flexibility and through this the crosslinking of the epoxy resin is also triggered "in the cold" (at 19-25 ° C.). In the field of flexible epoxy resins, there has been further development in the past 10-15 years, which has resulted in a further increase in the degree of flexibility. Such resins called epoxy rubber are e.g. made from dian diglycidyl ether and dimer fatty acid or a dicarboxylic acid prepolymer in which the segment chains consist of at least 14 links (e.g. -CH2 groups).
The so-called "epoxy telechelic pre-polymers" obtained in this way are semi-hard synthetic resins, which can be crosslinked in the heat or in reactive diluents (e.g. mono- and di-glycidyl ethers), even in the cold. The production of epoxy rubber is described in FR 1 559 969 and US 3 173 971 and US 3 280 056. These compositions with an epoxy resin content have an elongation at break of 70-90%.
The purpose of the invention is firstly to provide an epoxy resin composition in a better quality than the known epoxy resins, which, in addition to maintaining the known advantageous properties of the epoxy resins - good adhesion, resistance to chemicals and atmospheric effects - have increased flexibility and / or elasticity, secondly, the specification of a method by means of which it is easier and more economical to manufacture compared to the previously known epoxy resin compositions with increased flexibility and / or elasticity.
The invention is based in part on the knowledge that flexibilization of the epoxy resin component and also the crosslinking component of the composition leads to a product whose flexibility and / or elasticity make it suitable for flexible and / or elastic gluing, for sealing dilatation joints or e.g. allowed for the production of sports field covers. It was also recognized that liquid epoxy resins of low molecular weight with poly (alkylene oxide) diglycols and semi-drying vegetable oils at 140-180 ° C. can undergo a chemical reaction, in the course of which a significant increase in the polymer molecular weight is achieved.
The flexible epoxy resin obtained, by itself or in combination with a normal liquid epoxy resin, with poly (aminoamide) crosslinking agents based on dimerized fatty acid by optimally setting the segment length and the crosslinking density, results in a cold-curing flexible and / or elastic synthetic resin.
The invention relates to cold-curing, flexible and / or elastic epoxy resin compositions of the composition specified in claim 1. Advantageous developments of the invention result from the dependent claims 1 to 5. A method for producing an epoxy resin composition according to the invention is specified in claim 6. Mineral or organic fillers can optionally be added to the product obtained by the process according to the invention.
The epoxy resins which can be used in the composition and the method according to the invention should have a low molecular weight, that is to say a liquid consistency. Epikote 828 (product from Shell Chemicals), Araldit GY-280 (CIBA AO product), NOVEPOX-380, NOVEPOX-302 (Kemikál products Hungary) are advantageously used as epoxy resins.
The liquid flexible epoxy resin obtained after the condensation has an epoxy equivalent of 300-500 and a viscosity of 0.2-2 Pa.s / 25 ° C.
The flexible product is advantageously mixed alone or with the starting epoxy resin in a ratio of 10: 1-50 combined with the crosslinking component, whereby the greatest possible amount of epoxy resin is determined by the consistency of the liquid, the cold hardening and the flexibility of the composition and thus forms a technical limit .
The epoxy resin used for the combination can contain 20-50 percent by mass of mono- or diglycidyl ether - e.g. Phenyldiglyzidyläther, 2-Äthylhexylglyzidyläther, Butandioldiglyzidyläther be diluted.
Poly (aminoamide) based on dimerized fatty acid, advantageously Versamid 140 or poly (ether urethanamide), advantageously Euradur-X-75, is used for crosslinking.
100 parts by mass of the flexible intermediate epoxy resin are advantageously mixed with 20-50 parts by mass of poly (aminoamide) or 100-120 parts by mass of poly (ether urethane amine).
The most important technical characteristics of the networked flexible and / or elastic epoxy resin are:
Tear resistance: 1-50 N / m <2>
Elongation at break: 50-450%
Water absorption: 3-5%

Tear strength: 2-4 N / mm <2>
Elongation at break: 300-500%
Water absorption: max. 3%
With the flexible epoxy resin according to Example 4, an elastic 2 or 3-component covering can be produced for floor surfaces or sports fields with the following composition:
Component "A"
100-400 parts by mass of flexible resin
100-200 parts by mass of epoxy resin
100-300 parts by mass of mineral filler (e.g. quartz powder, quartz sand).
Component "B"
250-400 parts by mass of crosslinking agent (e.g. Versamid-140, Euredur X-75, Reammide-P05-50)
Component "C"
100-600 parts by mass of elastic filler (e.g. car tire regrind, EPDM rubber regrind)
The mass obtained by mixing the components A: B: C in the required ratio is applied to the sufficiently solid floor or sports ground in a thickness of 2-25 mm. After a setting time of 24 hours, the flooring is hard-wearing and after 10-14 days it can withstand the full load.
The more advantageous flexibility / elasticity properties of the composition according to the invention in comparison to the known flexible epoxy resins are shown using Example 5:
Example 5 (comparative example)
A modification with castor oil is used to produce a flexible resin from liquid epoxy resin (product EPOTUF-37-151 from Reichhold Chemie AG) with the following main parameters:
Viscosity: 30-50 Pa.s / 25 ° C
Epoxy equivalent: 500-550
Characteristic properties after crosslinking:
Tear strength: 5-6 N / mm <2>
Elongation at break: max. 50%
Example 6 (comparative example)
According to US Pat. No. 3,173,971, a flexible epoxy resin is produced by using 2 mol of bisphenol A diglyzidyl ether or its oligomer with a low molecular weight (eg epoxy resin normal Epon-828) with 1 mol of dimer fatty acid (eg linoleic acid, linolenic acid). Dimer with 34 carbon atoms, commercial product "Empol-1014") produces a "telechelic prepolymer". The flexible / elastic resin thus obtained (e.g. commercial product Epikote-872, Shell Co.) has the following main characteristics:
Consistency: semi-hard resin
Viscosity: 1.5-3 Pa.s / 25 ° C (75% solution in xylene)
Epoxy equivalent: 650-750
The semi-hard resin is converted into a liquid consistency with 10-20% mono- or diglyzidyl ether and solidified with various cross-linking agents.
