Abstract

A paper fastener, e.g. for holding pages of documents together without the use of adhesive or fixings of metal or plastics, consists of a base (10) and a lever (3), pivoted at one end and equipped with a spring (11),' and an inner implement (4). Two or more documents (1) are inserted into the open end (2) of the fastener. When the lever is depressed, the inner implement cuts a tongue of paper close to the margin of the sheets. A pointed tip (7) makes a slit through the sheets in line with the tongue, and a pusher (9) on the base of the implement pushes the tongue through the slit to fix the sheets together. ADVANTAGE - Simple and convenient to use.

Description

There have been on the market for a long time, devices for assembling documents which most often use metal staples, but also glue pads, paper washers, metal or plastic eyelets, inserts foldable in metal etc ...

It can therefore be seen that all of these devices use, most often, a fixing element which must be stored in the body of the device, obliging the user to periodically reload on pain of immediate immobilization of the device. In addition, the use of metal staples for packaging food products is prohibited in most countries because of the danger they represent by the ease with which they can be swallowed inadvertently. It should also be noted that the staples and metal eyelets affixed to the correspondence envelopes by certain branches of trade - banks, administrations, notaries - are the cause of refusal by automatic mail sorting machines and prohibited by the postal services of many countries. industrialized.

These same metal staples and eyelets must be removed before the files are inserted into the document destruction machines.

The present invention relates to an apparatus for assembling documents tending to eliminate the aforementioned drawbacks. This device is distinguished by the characteristics listed in claims 1 and following.

The attached drawing schematically illustrates, and by way of example, a stripped-down embodiment of the apparatus for assembling documents according to the invention.

Figure 1 is a view of the apparatus out of service.
Figure 2 shows a sectional view of the device in service.
Figure 3 shows, in section, the final shape that the device gives to the assembly of documents.

When two or more documents 1 are inserted in the slot 2 and a pressure is exerted on the lever 3 it acts as a paperweight. By increasing the pressure on the lever 3 the cookie cutter 4 cuts, in the margins of the documents 1, strips of paper 5 of which three of their sides are free. Simultaneously, the punch 6 makes in the documents 1 an incision 7 intended to facilitate the passage of a fraction of the terminal part of the tongues 5 through this incision 7.

The pivoting of the cookie cutter 4 on its axis 8 anticlockwise has the effect of putting the paper tongues 5 in a position favorable to their insertion into the incision 7 by the pusher 9 fixed on the base 10 carrying with it a fraction of the free part of the tongues 5.

As soon as the pressure exerted on the lever 3 is released, the latter moves away from the slot 2, carrying with it the punch 4 under the effect of the detent spring 11 thus releasing the assembled documents.
