   DESCRIPTION

   DESCRIPTION

The modern bodies of certain types of heavy vehicles, such as buses, coaches and articulated vehicles are of very low construction.

Therefore, it is materially impossible for a garage or repair shop worker to go and place a conventional jack under the axles or under the rear and front axles to lift these vehicles in order to carry out the usual dismantling operations wheels, brake repair, drive axles, rockets and other components.

The present invention, which aims to remedy this drawback, relates to a pneumatic forklift for heavy vehicles, according to claim 1.

The attached drawing shows, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the subject of the invention.

Figure 1 is an elevational view.

Figure 2 a corresponding plan view.

The elevator shown in the drawing comprises a spar 1, in the form of a box, comprising a central part 2 and two symmetrical wings 3. Each of these wings 3 is extended towards the center by an inclined plane 4. The two inclined planes 4, located opposite, are intended to receive a wheel 5 of the vehicle to be lifted. They are fitted with rollers 23.

The elevator further comprises two pneumatic cylinders 6 respectively integrated into the two wings 3.

Each cylinder 6 is constituted by two bellows, by a vertical axis engaged in an upper guide 7 and in a lower support 8 constituted by an elongated plate extending perpendicular to the middle part 2 of the spar 1, and by a return spring 10 the upper end of which is engaged in a rod 11.

The jacks 6 are connected by two conduits 12 to a control valve 13 which includes a three-way valve, two for supplying the jacks 6, the third for deflating the bellows.

The valve 13 is mounted on a support 14 and connected by a nozzle 14 'to a source of compressed air not shown.

The support 14 and the support 15 of a valve 16, reducing-regulating of pressures, and two supports 17 of a handling handlebar 18 are fixed on the middle part 2 of the spar 1.

The elevator also comprises rollers 20 and rollers 22, mounted respectively on supports 19 and 21 to facilitate its movement and its positioning.

   The elevator works as follows:
It is brought in by rotation opposite the wheel 5 to be lifted so that the inclined planes 4 are engaged under the tire, on each side of the latter, the end piece 14 'is connected to the source of compressed air, the valve 13 is gradually opened, which causes the bellows of the jacks 6 to inflate against the action of the springs 10 and the rise of the inclined planes 4 which, when in contact with the tire, lift the wheel 5.

When the wheel has reached a sufficient height, the supply of the jacks is interrupted, then the wedges are placed under the axle and the bellows are deflated by acting on the valve 13, thus allowing the springs 10 to recall the spar 1 and the inclined planes 4 downwards until the rollers 20 and 22 come into contact with the ground.

The elevator can then be removed so that the worker has access to the parts to be repaired or changed.

These operations being carried out, the elevator is put back under the wheel while proceeding in reverse order to bring the wheel back into contact with the ground. The two rollers 23 of each plane 4 make it possible to facilitate the reassembly of the wheel 5 on the wheel drum and to present the latter correctly facing the studs.

In variants, the inclined planes 4 could be slidably mounted so as to allow adjustment of their spacing and moreover be interchangeable.

The spar 1 could also be telescopic and the handlebar 18 could comprise a removable central pin placed in the center of the spar 1 and lockable by means of a wing screw or by a spring device.
