Description
BESCHREIBUNG DESCRIPTION
The invention relates to a dental diagnostic device, in particular for producing a plaque finding on the teeth of a patient, with a hand instrument which contains a light transmitter for fluorescence excitation of a substance applied to the teeth.
Such a diagnostic device is known for example from DE-OS 27 25 793. With the diagnostic lamp described there, the normally invisible plaque, that is, the deposits on the teeth, which mainly consist of bacteria and cause tooth and gum disease, can be made easily recognizable by brushing a fluorescent solution on the teeth. The fluorescent substances prefer to adhere to the plaque, but not to the clean and healthy tooth surfaces. When the tooth surface is illuminated by means of a suitable light source, the plaque-affected tooth sites can be easily visualized and thus localized. This fluorescence effect also makes other areas of the gums visible. The light source emits light with a shorter wavelength than that of the fluorescent radiation to be excited; For this purpose, either a normal incandescent lamp with a filter adapted to the fluorescent substance to be used or, if there is no filter, a light-emitting or electroluminescent diode can be provided.
The preparation of a plaque finding with such a known diagnostic lamp is relatively time-consuming because each tooth is checked individually for plaque finding by the doctor and the finding must then be recorded by hand on an evaluation paper that corresponds to the tooth scheme.
From DE-PS 29 30 142 and the diagnostic device on the market under the name “Placky” it is known to automatically print out the tooth status with the plaque diagnosis; but also with this device a visual inspection of the individual teeth is necessary; the result of the diagnosis is entered into the device at the touch of a button, plaque positive or negative.
The object of the invention specified in claim 1, on the other hand, is to provide an improved diagnostic device with which, in particular, the entire tooth status can be checked more quickly and with the exclusion of a subjective evaluation.
An embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing.

Figur 3 ein Blockschaltbild der Auswerteelektronik. Figure 3 is a block diagram of the evaluation electronics.
FIG. 1 shows the diagnostic device according to the invention in a diagrammatic representation. The device is designed as a hand instrument and contains a handle body 1, in which one or more batteries 2, control and evaluation electronics 3, an actuating element 4 for a switching element explained in more detail later and a digital display 5 are arranged. Connected to the handle body 1 is a probe 6 which is angled toward the free end and in which (see FIG. 2) two light guides 7, 8 are arranged. Light is directed via a light guide from a light source 9 (incandescent lamp or light-emitting diode) arranged in the handle body 1 to the surface (tooth) to be examined, indicated by 10; the other light guide receives the light reflected on the surface and leads it to a light receiver 11 arranged in the handle body 1, which e.g. a photo can be resistance. Filters 12 and 13 are arranged between light source 9 and light guide 7 on the one hand and between light guide 8 and photoresistor 11 on the other hand, by means of which the light spectrum can be adapted to the particular components used. If e.g. If a normal incandescent lamp is used as the light source, that is to say as the light transmitter, the filter 12 inserted between the incandescent lamp and the light guide can be used to filter out the unusable red portion of the light spectrum and to supply the remaining blue portion to the measuring point via the light guide. If, on the other hand, a blue radiation GaP diode is already used as the light source, it is normally not necessary to provide a filter. The filter 13 can e.g. be a yellow filter which measures the spectral sensitivity of the light receiver 11 for which e.g. a cadmium sulfide photoresistor can be limited.
The actuating element 4 acts on the one hand on a micro switch 14, via which the light source 9 can be switched on, and on the other hand is coupled to an aperture 15 which, in the rest position, that is to say when the element 4 is not actuated, shields the active surface of the photo resistor and when the element is pressed 4, ie switched on light source 9, releases. The coupling of the actuating element 4 to the diaphragm 15 can take place via a rocker arm 16, which can be tilted about an axle bearing 17 against the force of a spring 18 and at one end of which the diaphragm 15 guided in a vertical guide is suspended. It is pointed out that the cover 13 and the filer 15 can also be mounted on a jointly adjustable support part. Finally, 19 denotes a spacer shown in FIG. 2 when removed, which allows the probe to be attached to the object to be measured, e.g. on the tooth, without having to pay attention to the distance between light exit or entry parts and object surface 10.
The structure of the evaluation electronics 3 and the function of the device are explained in more detail with reference to FIG. The control lines emanating from the light transmitter 9, receiver 11 and switching element 14 are labeled a to d.
The control line b leads to a monostable flip-flop 20 to which a first memory 21, e.g. can be a shift register. Its output leads via control line e to a dividing element 22, the output of which is connected to a driver stage 23, to which a two-digit liquid display, denoted by 5 in FIG. 1, is connected.
The signal line d leads to a Schmitt trigger 24 which is connected to a further monostable flip-flop stage 25. Designated at 26 is an AND stage, the first input of which is connected to the output of the flip-flop stage 20 via a signal line f and thus receives its output signal and the second input of which is connected to the output of the flip-flop stage 25. The output of the AND stage 26 is connected to a second memory 27, the output of which is in turn connected to the input of the divider 22. 28 denotes a control stage which on the one hand contains a control input 29 connected to a reset button and on the other hand contains an input 30 connected to an output display button. The control stage 28 acts on the one hand on the memory 1 via a control line g and on the memory 2 via a control line a.
Die Funktion wird wie folgt beschrieben: The function is described as follows:
The measurement begins by placing the probe 6 on the tooth at a distance of about one millimeter, which can preferably be precisely defined by the spacer 19, from the edge of the gum and then pressing the button 4. This process must be repeated for every tooth or every measuring point. By pressing the button 4, with which the switch 14 and thus the light source is switched on, the aperture 15 is mechanically coupled, which covers the active side of the photoresistor 11 in the idle state. The electronics receive the information via the signal inputs b and d as to whether the light source 9 is switched on, i.e. a measurement is carried out and whether fluorescent radiation, i.e. Plaque, is present. The light transmission signal is processed in the flip-flop stage 20 into a pulse of constant pulse duration and amplitude. This pulse, which signals a measurement process in each case, is supplied to the memory 21. The number of measurements is counted and stored in this memory.
In the same form, the output signal of the light receiver 11 is processed via the signal line d via the threshold switch (Schmitt trigger) 24 and the pulse shaper stage 25. The AND gate 26 has a test function and ensures that the information plaque is only read into the second memory 27 when a light transmission signal is present. The memory 27 can also be designed as a shift register; the number of measurements with plaque is stored in it.
When the measurement has ended, the input 22 of the control stage 28 connected to an output key prompts the divider 22 to form the quotient from the memory content 27 and the memory content 21. At the output of the divider 22, the result of the division is then available via the driver stage 23. The measurement result can then be displayed in percent in the display display 5, which is designed as a two-digit liquid display.
If a new measurement is to be started or if the display is to be deleted, this can be done via the input 29 of the control stage 28 connected with a zero key. The two memories 21 and 27 can thus be set to zero.
The control processes "quotient formation" and "deletion" that can be brought about by an act of will can also be carried out automatically, e.g. with the help of a timer. For example, the "quotient formation" can take place automatically 10 seconds after the last (counted) measurement and the "deletion" can take place automatically when a display has been displayed for longer than 1 minute, for example.
