REVENDICATIONS
tions I et 4.

3. Method according to claim 2, characterized in that a temporary withdrawal of the electrode tool with respect to the electrode part is caused and / or a reduction in the average machining current when said percentage exceeds a predetermined value, preferably 25%.
4. Device for implementing the method according to claim 1 comprising:
- a circuit for producing successive ignition voltage pulses separated from each other by an interval of rest time,
- a circuit for detecting the instant when a spark is initiated,
- a time base controlled by the detection circuit to maintain the spark for a determined time interval after its ignition,
- a servo motor to carry out relative movements of the tool and the part,
a circuit for adjusting the speed of these displacements, arranged so as to maintain a determined spark distance between the electrodes,
a circuit for measuring the spark voltage in a reading window positioned relative to the start of this spark,
characterized in that it comprises a pilot circuit for controlling the pulse generator circuit so as to interrupt the spark when its voltage, measured during said reading window, is between two determined levels, a circuit for evaluating the ratio of the number of interruptions to the number of sparks initiated, and a comparator for emitting a signal as soon as this ratio exceeds a determined value.
During EDM machining, it is known to control the spark conditions at the start of each spark by measuring the spark voltage inside a time window positioned shortly after the start of the spark. , mainly to detect short circuits but also because below a certain threshold, energy from discharges dissipates largely in the dielectric liquid occupying the space between electrodes. This liquid rapidly degenerates under the effect of temperature, carbon appears there, which adheres to the electrodes and locally alters their geometry; hence the appearance of pitting and stains on the machined surface.
As short circuits also manifest themselves as a drop in voltage, it is usual to interrupt the spark if the voltage drops below a certain level, and to initiate the appropriate measures. As short circuits are generally due to the formation of metal bridges composed of eroded particles, it is in particular customary to separate the electrodes from one another to break these metal bridges. This spacing can be accompanied by an injection of fresh dielectric, to eliminate the degenerate liquid. A major drawback of such a method of mechanical rupture is that it will only take place once the electrodes are sufficiently far apart from each other and that it is then necessary to bring them together again before resuming the operation. 'machining.
This implies a loss of time, due to the response times of mechanical movements, resulting in a reduction in machining efficiency. The invention proposes a method which eliminates these drawbacks by making it possible to maintain the machining current in the event of a short circuit and by limiting the energy dissipated in the dielectric liquid in order to avoid its carbonization. The invention also aims to create a device for the implementation of this method.
To this end, the invention is defined as it is said in the claims.
I and 4. In a preferred embodiment, the dielectric liquid
that in the machining area is renewed by a pulsation as soon as
the rate of interrupted discharges exceeds 25% and the distance
mean between electrodes, adjusted by the servo, is increased by
so as to increase the volume of liquid subjected to discharges.
An advantage of the invention is that, when a short circuit lowers the voltage below the lower level, the discharges will be maintained and their energy will dissipate in the metal bridge (s) which create the short circuit, destroying thus quickly these structures of eroded particles without risk of heating of the dielectric liquid.
The invention will now be illustrated in more detail by the description of an embodiment and by means of the drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 represents several electrical variables as a function of time during different types of sparks, and
Figure 2 shows schematically a machine for implementing the method according to the invention.
FIG. 1 shows, as a function of time, the machining voltage for different types of sparks, the duration F of the window for reading this voltage and the spark current.
For the first two sparks A1, A2, the voltage is above a limit value V2 (which may for example be 20 volts) and the spark is maintained for a period of time T1. For the following two sparks Bl and B2 , the measured voltage is below V2 and above Vl (which can for example be 5 V) and the spark is cut off at the end of the reading.
Finally, for the 5 'spark C, the voltage is below Vl, which indicates a state of short-circuit and the spark is maintained to allow the fusion of the metal bridge which causes this short-circuit.
Figure 2 shows the block diagram of a device for implementing this method. In this figure, 1 designates the electrode tool and 2 designates the workpiece. The machining pulse generator circuit comprises, for example, a DC voltage source 3, a current limiting resistor 19 and a switching element, for example a transistor 4 controlled by a flip-flop.
Schmitt 5 to detect the start of a spark, a first monostable flip-flop 6 to fix the duration T1 of the spark, a second monostable flip-flop 7 to fix the duration T2 of the interval between two pulses and an AND gate 15 one of which input is connected to the flip-flop 7 and the other to a pilot circuit.
This pilot circuit, comprising two comparators 8 and 9, compares the voltage across the electrodes with two reference voltages V and V2, one being the short-circuit voltage (first level Vl) and the other the voltage of machining of sparks (second level V2). By machining voltage of sparks is understood to be the typical voltage of machining deemed to be without danger. An AND gate 10 emits an output signal when the measured voltage is between the two reference voltages. The output signal from the AND gate 10 is stored in a flip-flop 12 at the end of the reading window. This same rocker is reset to zero upon detection of the start of a spark.
The output signal of the flip-flop 12 is in turn stored in a transfer register 13 by the output signal of the monostable flip-flop 6, that is to say each time an interrupted or uninterrupted discharge occurs, and on the other hand it is applied to the input of door 15 by means of an inverter 11. An up-down counter 14 takes stock of the particular discharges detected by the pilot circuit during the storage time of register 13, this
balance sheet representing a measure of the rate of discharges detected during the period of time necessary to produce a total number of discharges equal to the digital capacity of the register. This balance, expressed in the form of a number N, is compared by a logic circuit 16 to a reference number No stored in a memory circuit 18, and a signal is produced to increase the duration T2 determined by the monostable flip-flop 7 and / or order a temporary retreat, or pulsation, of the electrode and / or increase the average distance between electrode and part when N becomes equal to N ,. This last number can for example be chosen equal to a quarter of the digital capacity of register 13.
The pulsation of the electrode is obtained in the usual way by temporarily modifying a reference quantity of a circuit 17 intended to adjust the position of the electrode 1 relative to the part 2 in response to the average sparking voltage. A counter takes stock of the successive pulses interrupted. It increments and returns to zero at the end of the signal delivered by flip-flop 6 and is reset to zero each time a pulse is not interrupted. It acts on circuits 7 and 77 in a manner analogous to counter 14.
