The invention relates to an electronic component base, intended to mechanically hold the component on a printed circuit board and to connect its connections with wiring.
Usually, such a base includes a receptacle in which the component can be plugged. The receptacle comprises an insulated jacket, corresponding to the component to be received. This coat has openings where metal studs are attached. Each pin includes a socket containing a conductive spring; when the component is plugged into the base, each connection of the component comes into the socket of a pin; it is mechanically clamped by the spring, which also ensures electrical contact with the pin. The pin extends from the bottom of the socket by a rod. The printed circuit board intended to receive such bases carries in front of each stud a hole adjusted to the stem of the stud.
When the base is mounted on one side of the printed circuit board, the pins of the pins extend on the other side, which is the side of the wiring. The wiring is done by fixing, by soldering or wrappîng, a stripped end of a wire to the pin rod, several wires can be fixed to the same rod.
Fixing such a base on the printed circuit however poses problems. When the printed circuit provides a small copper ring around each hole intended for a picot, the rod of the picot can be welded to this ring, which is a very difficult operation. If such soldering is not provided, the fixing of the rod in the adjusted hole of the printed circuit board can loosen, especially in the event of vibration, which affects the reliability of the assembly.
The base according to the invention is intended to avoid these problems.
To this end, it is arranged as indicated in claim 1.
In order to better understand the invention, an embodiment of the base according to the invention will be described in detail by way of example with reference to figures in which
FIG. 1 represents a base not mounted in vertical section and
Figure 2 the base mounted on a printed circuit board, also in vertical section.
The base 1 comprises at least two parts: a receptacle 2 and a blocking piece 12.
The receptacle 2 has the function of a female multiple connector to receive the connections of the electronic component.
To this end, an insulating jacket 3, generally of the same extension as the component housing, when considered in a plane perpendicular to its connections, carries in metal cells or through openings 4 metal pins S arranged to correspond to the connections of the component and to receive them.
For this purpose, each pin 5 has at the end clamped or embedded in the mantle a socket 6 extending by a cylindrical rod 8 carrying a circumferential groove 9. To maintain the connection of the component in the socket 6 and ensure electrical contact a conductive spring 7 is provided in the socket 6. Figure 1 shows a section perpendicular to a row of pins. If the component has 2 or more rows of connections, the corresponding receptacle has the same number of rows, a single mantle now holding all the pins corresponding to this component (not shown).
The locking piece 12 comprises an insulating ring 13, in which a second metal bush 16 is enclosed or encased, which extends out of the ring 13 by a second rod 18. The second bush 16 includes a second spring 17 which ensures the holding the second bushing 16 on the rod 8 of the corresponding pin, because the spring 17 engages in the groove 9. At the same time, the electrical connection is ensured. The second rod 18 is arranged so as to be able to receive one or more stripped ends of wiring wires, which are fixed there by welding or wrapping.
When the base 1 is mounted on a printed circuit board 21, the holes corresponding 22 to the rods 8 of the pins 5 may have play with respect to the rods, so that it is easy to push the receptacle 2 into the plate printed circuit board 21. Then the locking pieces 12 are pressed onto the rods 8 extending out of the printed circuit board.
The dimensions are chosen in the direction of the axes of the pins so that when the springs 17 are engaged with the grooves 9 of the rods of the corresponding pins 5, the printed circuit board 21 is clamped without play between the receptacle 2 and the parts blockages 12.
If it is desired to bring the pin 5 or the metal part of the blocking piece 12 into electrical contact with a conductive portion of the surface of the printed circuit, a conductive ring 23 and / or 24 is provided around the opening 22; this ring is a conductive portion of the surface of the printed circuit.
The spring 17 in the second bushing is arranged to extend beyond the plane at the end of the insulating ring 13 on the side where
the second socket 16 is open. Thus, when the printed circuit board 21 is clamped between the receptacle 2 and the locking piece 12, the part 20 of the protruding spring 17 makes contact with the conductive ring 23 of the printed circuit board 21
Likewise, the shoulder 10 of the external surface of the pin 5, placed between the sleeve 6 and the rod 8, can extend beyond the plane at the end of the mantle 3 on the side with the openings of the pins 5.
Thanks to this overflow 10, there will be electrical contact between the pin 5 and a conductive ring 24 of the printed circuit board.
It is also possible to group two or more locking pieces 12 together, by connecting their respective insulating rings 13.
