Fig. 1 einen Bimetallauslöser im Längsschnitt,
Fig. 4 in gegenüber Fig. 3 grösserem Massstab einen Schnitt entlang der Linie IV-IV in Fig. 3.

PATENT CLAIMS

2. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the bimetal elements (4) on the anchoring points (A) provided support surfaces (24) are placed.
3. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that each bimetallic element (4) by means of at least one, at the respective anchoring point (A) provided positioning member (25) which engages in a recess (26) on the bimetallic element (4) in its position is held.
4. The method according to claim 3, characterized in that the bimetallic elements (4) are welded to the associated positioning member (25).
5. The method according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the bimetallic elements (4) are attached to their anchoring point (A) by means of electron beam or laser welding.
The present invention relates to a method for producing a multi-phase thermal release according to the preamble of claim 1.
In the case of multi-phase bimetallic triggers of this type, the bimetallic elements respectively assigned to one phase act on a common actuating element which is mounted in the housing in a displaceable or pivotable manner. Appropriate measures must now be taken to ensure that all bimetallic elements have the same effect on the actuating element while heating the same. This means that the bending ends of all bimetallic elements must have the same position with respect to the actuating member at a certain ambient temperature and no current flow through the bimetallic elements.
For this purpose, it is known to individually adjust the position of the actuating member by hand after installing the bimetallic elements (CH-PS 216 532). In addition, there has been no lack of proposals to replace the time-consuming individual adjustment of the bimetal elements by a more rational adjustment method.
For example, in the solution known in CH-PS 558 593, the mutual distances between the freely bendable ends of the bimetallic elements are measured for each trigger after the bimetallic elements have been fastened in the housing. On the basis of the distances determined in this way, an individual slide is produced for this trigger.
Since in addition to measuring the distance, a separate slide must be produced for each trigger, this solution is quite labor-intensive even in the case of automated production, which is reflected in higher production costs.
In the trigger described in CH-PS 356 827, the bimetallic elements act on the latter via pins which are held in a pivotably mounted actuating member. To adjust the position of the pins, which are initially freely displaceable in the actuating member, a current of the size of the tripping current is first sent through the bimetallic elements, which results in heating and corresponding bending thereof. Due to the bending bimetallic elements, the pins in the actuator, which is held in its position very shortly before the release, are now shifted into their desired position. In this target position, the pins are secured with solder. In this way it is achieved that all the pins and the associated bimetallic elements assume the same mutual position.
In addition to the complex design of the actuator, this solution has the further disadvantage that the adjustment process is still time-consuming and is very poorly suited for automation.
The present invention is based on the object of creating a method of the type mentioned at the outset which enables automated production of multiphase thermal triggers which requires as little material and time as possible.
This object is achieved according to the invention by the features of the characterizing part of claim 1.
Since the bimetal elements which have the same heating state are initially placed loosely on the common actuating member with their bending-out area, preferably their free end, and are only connected to the anchoring point afterwards, it is ensured that at a given temperature all of the bimetal elements with their bending-out area with one another have the same position with respect to the actuator. This does not require precise alignment of the anchoring points of the bimetallic elements with one another and with respect to the actuating member. When manufacturing these anchoring points, no very tight tolerances have to be observed.
Since the bimetallic elements already get their correct position with respect to the actuating member in the course of the manufacture of the trigger, a subsequent position adjustment of the bimetallic elements is not necessary.
The connection between the anchoring point and the bimetallic elements is preferably carried out by means of electron beam or laser welding. However, other suitable micro-welding processes can also be used.
The subject of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing.
It shows purely schematically:
1 shows a bimetal release in longitudinal section,
2 shows a detail of the bimetallic release according to FIG. 1 during the manufacturing process,
3 on a different scale compared to FIGS. 1 and 2, the bimetal element according to FIG. 2 in plan view, and
FIG. 4 on a larger scale than FIG. 3 shows a section along the line IV-IV in FIG. 3.
The structure of the bimetallic release 1 shown in a schematic longitudinal section in FIG. 1 is first described below. The trigger 1 has a housing 2, which is preferably made of plastic and which is closed on one side by means of a removable cover 3. Three strip-shaped bimetallic elements 4 are arranged in the interior of the housing 2, each element being assigned to a phase.
Of the bimetallic elements arranged one behind the other in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the drawing in FIG. 1, only one bimetallic element 4 is visible in this FIG. 1. Each bimetallic element 4 is provided with a heating winding 5, which is connected at one end 5a to the bimetallic element 4 and at the other end 5b to a connecting element 6. The connection elements 6 extend with their end 6a through the cover 3 and are therefore accessible from outside the housing 2 for connection purposes. An intermediate layer 8 made of an electrically insulating material is arranged between the heating winding 5 and the bimetal element 4.
Each bimetallic element 4 is fastened at its upper end 4a in FIG. 1 to a projecting part 9a of a metallic carrier 9. The projecting part 9a of each carrier 9 thus forms
with an anchoring point A for the associated bimetallic element 4. The manner in which the bimetallic elements 4 are fastened to the supports 9 will be discussed in more detail. The three supports 9 are anchored to a wall 10 in the housing 2, as is described in more detail in DE-OS 3 224 012. Each carrier 9 has a connection part 11 for a plug connection and a second connection part 12, to which an electrical conductor can be fastened by means of a connection terminal 13.
In the interior of the housing, a slide 14, which is displaceably mounted in the direction of arrow B and is common to all bimetal elements 4 and on which these bimetal elements act with their freely bendable ends 4b, is accommodated in a manner not shown in detail. This slide 14 in turn acts on a compensation bimetallic element 15 designed as a two-armed lever, which forms part of a trigger mechanism designated by 16. The structure and mode of operation of this trigger mechanism 16 is described in more detail in index CH-PS 657 717. For this reason, this trigger mechanism 16 is only briefly explained below. A release element 17 is pivotally mounted in the housing, on which a compression spring acts, which exerts a torque on the release element 17.
The latter is supported in the normal state on the compensation bimetal element 15, which thus prevents the triggering element 17 from pivoting. The compensation bimetal element 15 is prevented by the slide 14, which is displaced in the direction of the arrow B when the ends 4b of the bimetal elements 4 are bent pivoted that it comes out of engagement with the trigger element 17, the latter is released for rotation. The result of this is that the trigger element 17 deflects a movable contact tongue 18 with a trigger finger 17a which carries a contact element 20a of a contact 20.
By bending the contact tongue 19, the contact element 20a is lifted off a stationary contact element 20b. A spring-loaded reset slide 21 is provided for resetting the trigger element 17. The trigger element 17 is provided with a display tongue 17b which is visible from outside the housing 2 and which indicates the operating state of the trigger 1.
In order to be able to set the magnitude of the current at which the trigger 1 is to respond, there is a rotatable adjusting member 22 in the housing 2, which has an eccentric part 22a at its free end. This acts on a spring-loaded holder 23 in which the compensation bimetallic element 15 is pivotally mounted.
The design of the anchoring point A will now be explained with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4. As these FIGS. 3 and 4 and also the other two FIGS. 1 and 2 show, the projecting part 9a of each carrier 9 has a bearing surface 24 for the end 4a of the associated bimetal element. A positioning member 25 protrudes from this support surface 24 and has a cuboid shape in the present exemplary embodiment.
Of course, it is also possible to design the positioning member 25 as cylindrical. The positioning member 25 engages in a correspondingly designed recess 26 which is formed at the end 4a of the bimetal elements 4.
The latter are connected to the associated carrier 9 by means of a welded connection between the positioning member 25 and its end 4a.
The trigger 1 is manufactured and in particular the bimetallic elements 4 are attached to the supports 9 as follows:
First, all components with the exception of the bimetallic elements 4 are installed in the housing 2. This means in particular that the supports 9 are fastened to the wall 10 and the trigger slide 14 is arranged on the compensation bimetallic element 15 in the housing before the assembly of the bimetallic elements 4 is started. To install these bimetallic elements 4, the trigger 1 is brought into the position shown in FIG. 2. Subsequently, the bimetallic elements 4 already provided with the heating winding 5 are placed on the common slide 14 and on the projecting part 9a of the carrier 9.
This means that the bimetallic elements 4 are supported at their freely bendable end 4b on the common actuating member 14 and at their opposite end 4a on the carrier 9. The bimetallic elements 4 resting at their end 4a on the bearing surface 24 are held in their correct position by the positioning member 25 engaging in the recess 26. This positioning member 25 in particular prevents the bimetallic elements 4 from tipping sideways from the supports 9. If the support surface 24 can be made large enough so that the bimetallic elements 4 cannot tilt sideways, the positioning member 25 may be dispensed with. The bimetallic elements 4 lying loosely on the actuating member 14 and the supports 9 are now anchored at their end 4a to the associated support 9 by means of electron beam or laser welding.
The welded connection is formed between the positioning member 25 and the end 4a of the bimetallic elements 4. At the same time or afterwards, the end 4b of the heating winding 5 is welded onto the connection element 6 using the same method.
It is also possible at this time to also weld the other end 5a of the heating winding 5 to the bimetal element 4. Instead of electron beam or laser welding, another suitable micro-welding process can also be used.
Since the ends 4b of all the bimetallic elements 4 are brought to rest on the common slider 14 before the bimetallic elements 4 are attached to the anchoring point A, these ends 4b are thus necessarily aligned with one another with respect to the slider 14. The subsequent welding of the opposite ends 4a to the supports 9, which in turn are held stationary on the wall 10, does not change anything in this orientation of the bendable ends 4b of the bimetallic elements 4. A readjustment of the bimetallic elements 4 is therefore not necessary and the effort associated with such a readjustment can thus be saved. In the described way of installing the bimetallic elements 4, it is not necessary for the support surfaces 24 on the different supports 9 to be aligned with one another.
In the manufacture of these carriers 9, it is therefore not necessary to ensure that very narrow tolerances are observed. The assembly of the bimetallic elements 4 is very simple and can therefore be automated.
The described way of installing the bimetallic elements 4 is not only suitable for bimetallic elements which, as shown in the bending direction, lie next to one another. In the same way, bimetallic triggers can also be produced, in which the bimetallic elements are arranged one behind the other with respect to their direction of bending.
