To obtain a polishing and a perfect cleaning of the teeth, in particular to remove the stains of tobacco or other origin, the dentists use an abrasive paste which they apply to the teeth using an instrument provided with a rotating disc . This method does not of course make it possible to perfectly clean the entire surface of the teeth and in particular not the interdental spaces, cracks and grooves.
Devices for spraying a powder-air-liquid mixture, generally an abrasive powder mixed with air and a liquid, have been developed. These devices allow satisfactory work but are bulky, and above all involve elements such as solenoid valves which require frequent maintenance.
The present invention relates to a modular pneumatic device for spraying a powder-air-liquid mixture for cleaning and polishing teeth tending to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks. This device is distinguished by the characteristics listed in claim 1.
The accompanying drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example an embodiment of the device for spraying a powder-air-liquid mixture according to the invention.
Figure I is a diagram of the device.
Figure 2 is a section of a control pedal.
Figure 3 is a partial section of a handpiece.
The device according to the invention has the particularity of being only pneumatic, it comprises a block 1, a control pedal 2 and a handpiece 3.
The control pedal 2 comprises a body 4 and a cover 5 sliding axially on the body 4. Inside the body 4 are housed two shutters each connected in a pneumatic circuit. The first shutter comprises a shutter member 6 subjected to the action of a spring 7 tending to apply its seal 8 against a shoulder 9. The spring 7 bears against a plug 10 screwed into the body 4. The body d shutter is connected to a pusher 1 1 whose upper surface is intended to cooperate with the cover 5 for the opening of the shutter member 6. The lower chamber 12 is connected to a source S of compressed air by a conduit 13, while the upper chamber 14 is connected to the outside of the body by a conduit 15.
The second shutter is in all respects similar to the first described, and the corresponding members bear the same reference numbers provided with the prime sign. The plunger 11 ′ of this second shutter is thicker: in the rest position, it is therefore closer to the cover 5 so that, when the latter is actuated downwards,
The opening of the second shutter member is obtained before the opening of the first shutter member.
The block 1 comprises a body 1a and a cover 1b separated by a membrane 16.
This block contains a water clamp constituted by a stirrup 17 sliding in a bore 18 and subjected to the action of a return spring 19 bearing on a plug 20. In the rest position, the bottom of the stirrup 17 clamps a flexible pipe 21 against a pin 22 and thus causes it to be closed. This flexible pipe is housed in a hole made in the body 1a and is connected to a source of a liquid, in particular water, the temperature of which can be modulated by means of a heating body. A manual tap 23 allows the desired water flow rate to be adjusted. This flexible pipe then feeds the external chamber 24 of the nozzle of the handpiece 3.
The stirrup 17 is connected to a pusher 25 disposed in a cavity 26 separated from a cavity 27 by the membrane 16. This cavity 27 is connected by a conduit 28 to the outlet 15 'of the second shutter of the pedal 2.
Thus, as soon as the user presses on the pedal, causing the opening of the second shutter, the cavity 27 is pressurized, deforming the membrane 16 which moves the pusher 25 against the action of the spring 19, thus causing the opening flexible hose 21 which is no longer pinched between pin 21 and caliper 17. Water, the flow rate of which is regulated by tap 23, is supplied to the external chamber 24 of the nozzle of the handpiece 3.
The device also comprises a container 29, fixed to the block 1a, partially filled with an appropriate abrasive powder and provided with a manual discharge valve 30. A flexible pipe 31 connects the top of this container to the internal tubular element 32 from the nozzle of the handpiece 3, this flexible pipe travels in a passage made in the body 1a and is subjected to the action of an air-powder clamp similar to the water clamp and the corresponding members of which bear the same numbers with the sign premium. The only difference lies in the fact that the cavity 27 ′ is supplied with compressed air by a conduit 33 connected to the outlet conduit 15 of the first shutter of the control pedal 3.
Thus, it is only when the first shutter of the pedal is open that this air + powder clamp opens, ie after the water clamp.
The air + powder mixture is obtained by injecting pressurized air into the container 29 through a conduit 34 connected to the outlet conduit 15 of the first obturator of the control pedal 3. On its path in the body 1a, this conduit 34 comprises a manual flow regulator 35, a safety shutter constituted by the membrane 16 and a cavity 36 supplied with compressed air directly from the source S via a conduit 37 provided with a closing valve 37a. When the cavity 36 is pressurized, the orifices of the duct 34 are closed by the membrane 16.
This duct 34 is further interrupted by a shutter comprising a lower chamber 38, a shutter member 39 subjected to the action of a spring 40 and actuated by a pusher 41 housed in a cavity 42 separated from a cavity 43 by the membrane 16, this cavity 43 being connected to conduit 33 and therefore to the source of compressed air by means of the first shutter of the control pedal 3.
Thus, when the user presses on the pedal 3, he first causes the opening of the water clamp and the distribution of water by the
nozzle of the handpiece 3, then the opening of the shutter 39 and of the air + powder clamp and therefore the supply of the tube 32 of the nozzle of the handpiece with a mixture of air and powder, mixture which formed by turbulence in container 29.
A pressure gauge 44 indicates the pressure prevailing in the air duct 34, a pressure which can be adjusted with the manual tap 35.
Finally, a duct 45 connects the source of compressed air S to the duct
air + powder 31 of the handpiece. A non-return valve 46 is provided in this conduit, as is a manual valve 47. This conduit is used to purge the conduit 31 and the tube 32 from the nozzle.
The device described is very compact and has very little bulk; it can therefore easily be integrated into an existing dental care installation, in particular also because it is sufficient for its control to be connected to a source of compressed air.
