3. Wire or cable cutting tool comprising a percussion device according to one of claims 1 or 2 and an actuating device, characterized in that the actuating device is a knife-holder unit with an explosive charge mounted on the support of the percussion device.
The present invention relates to a percussion device for triggering the initiation of an explosive charge of an actuating device, comprising a support arranged to be able to be fixed to said actuating device, a striker member provided with a point percussion device movably mounted relative to the support, so as to be able to trigger the initiation under the effect of a force acting on this striker member, and a helical spring whose first end is arranged to transmit the force of the spring to the striker member and the second end of which is, at least in the armed state of the percussion device, secured to the support.
Devices of this type generally comprise a compression spring acting on one end of a striker member so as to accelerate the latter over a length corresponding to the elongation of the spring during its relaxation. These devices are quite complex, expensive and relatively heavy.
The object of the invention is to provide an extremely simple, efficient, light percussion device with a very low cost price.
To this end, the device according to the invention is characterized in that the helical spring is a tension spring, the first end of which is fixed to the striker, and the second end of which comprises means for keeping the spring in a state tensioned, in the armed state of the percussion device, the support being arranged to retain the striker member in the vicinity of the priming position, the device comprising means for releasing the second end of the spring so as to cause the contraction of the latter and the appearance, at the first end of the spring, of a kinetic energy corresponding to the movement of the coils of the spring when the latter is released.
The support of this percussion device may have a tubular shape, a first end of the support being arranged to allow the mounting of the actuating device and the wall of the support being arranged to retain a striker member of essentially cylindrical shape in the vicinity of the primer, the second end of the spring preferably being provided with a hooking member arranged to cooperate with the second end of the support.
The device can be used for the production of a wire or cable cutting tool, the percussion device then being associated with an actuating device in the form of a knife-holder unit with an explosive charge mounted on the support. of the percussion device.
The percussion device according to the invention has a minimum of different parts and can be made, at least as regards the support and the striker, in very light materials such as aluminum alloys or plastics. It can in particular be designed to be associated with an actuating device intended to be used only once, such as for example a knife-holder unit with an explosive charge for the cutting of fixing cables, usable in particular on a boat in the event of dismasting. , or high voltage electrical cables.
The invention will be better understood in the light of the description, given below, of an exemplary embodiment illustrated in the appended drawing. In this drawing:
fig. 1 is an axial sectional view of an embodiment of a percussion device according to the invention associated, for example, with a knife-holder unit for cutting a cable, this FIG. 1 representing the armed state of the percussion device,
fig. 2 is a similar view of the assembly of FIG. I in the state following percussion, and
fig. 3 is a partially sectional view of a knife holder unit used in the assembly according to FIGS. 1 and 2.
The percussion device shown in figs. I and 2 comprises a tubular support 1 at a first end of which is fixed a knife holder unit 2 indicated schematically in these two figures. The fixing is carried out in this example by simple deformation of the support wall, that is to say by crimping, as shown in location 3 of the support.
A striker member 4 of essentially cylindrical shape is housed inside the tubular support so as to be displaceable in the axial direction. This movement is limited in the direction of the second end of the support by a deformation 5 of the wall of the support, while a percussion point 6 is disposed near the end of the knife holder unit containing the primer. The member 4 is made of a light material and thus has a low inertia. A helical tension spring 7 is fixed by a first end 8 to the striker member 4, for example by screwing on a threaded lug of this member. The second end 9 of this spring is provided, in the present embodiment, with a hooking member 10 arranged to allow the spring 7 to be kept in a taut state by hooking the member 10 to the edge of the second end support 1.
This hooking member 10 is also arranged to allow the corresponding end of the spring 7 to be suddenly released so that the latter can contract almost freely relative to its first end secured to the striker member 4.
It should be noted that in Figs. 1 and 2 the support 1 and the spring 7 are not drawn in their entire length, but are interrupted for reasons of space. In the contracted, therefore relaxed state, the spring may for example have two to five times the length shown of the striker, but this length of the spring is of course a pure question of dimensioning, essentially depending on the percussive force that we wish to obtain.
Indeed, when the tensioned spring is suddenly released at its second end, the consecutive turns approach each other, practically simultaneously, and together they approach the end of the spring fixed on the striker member. retained in the holder. The speed of contraction of consecutive turns is a function of the constant of the spring, but the speed of the nth turn relative to the fixed end of the spring is obviously
increased by the sum of the speeds of the preceding turns, that is to say located between the fixed end and this nth turn. Thus, a significant kinetic energy appears at the level of the striker member at the end of the spring contraction phase and this member of low inertia is projected in the direction of the primer.
It turns out that the necessary impact force can be obtained by means of very common tension springs, although these springs are not at all designed to be used in the present way in which one end is made free.
Fig. 1 also shows a very simple safety device, in the form of a plug 11 placed, in the storage state, on the end of the support to prevent the fastening member from being released involuntarily.
Fig. 3 shows in more detail a knife holder unit 2 such that it can be used in the assembly according to FIGS. 1 and 2.
This knife holder unit comprises a longitudinal body part 12 having a transverse slot 13 intended for the insertion of a cable, wire or the like to be cut. A movable knife 14 is housed in the body part 12 that can be moved relative to a fixed knife 15, the cutting edges of the fixed and movable knives being placed, in the rest position, on either side of the slot 13 .
A priming and motor device is contained in a socket 16 screwed to the end of the body part 12 near the end 17 of the movable knife opposite the cutting edge. The socket 16 contains a primer 18, a separation ring 19 and a propellant charge 20 disposed in the vicinity of the end 17 of the movable knife. A priming pin 21 has one of its ends at the outer surface of the sleeve 16. The percussion member, when the spring 7 is released, strikes this priming pin 21 and the ignition of the propellant charge 20 projects the movable knife 14 in the direction of the fixed knife 15, thus causing the cutting of the wire or cable placed in the slot 13.
Fig. 3 also shows a spring hook 22 mounted on the body part 12 and intended to guide and retain the wire or cable to be cut in the slot 13. The latter also has a guide surface 23 to facilitate positioning. the knife holder unit.
It is understood that the example shown is only one of the many possible embodiments of the invention and is essentially intended to illustrate the simplicity which can be achieved in the practical design of the percussion device according to the invention . It is also clear to the skilled person that the percussion device can easily be reset and reused if desired in a given application. The actuating device will in this case also be reused or replaced. The type of actuation device used obviously depends on the intended application. A person skilled in the art knows many devices in which an organ is actuated or propelled under the effect of an explosive charge triggered by percussion.
