The present invention relates to a bracelet comprising links each consisting of a profile section with a groove of circular section and a projecting edge of circular section forming a hinge which engages in the groove of a neighboring link.
A bracelet of this type is already known in which each of the links has a retractable pin mounted in an opening at the bottom of the groove, the pin engaging in a slot in the edge of the neighboring link in order to lock the links together.
However, and more particularly due to the play of tolerances, it may happen that the operation of the retractable spindle is not always entirely satisfactory. In addition, the construction of the known bracelet is relatively complicated.
Consequently. the object of the present invention is to remedy the above drawbacks, that is to say to produce a bracelet of simple construction and offering great operational safety.
To achieve this object, the bracelet according to the invention is produced as described in claim 1.
By the fact that the links are mounted between them by means of an assembly element integral with one of the links and engaging in a central clearance of the edge of the other link, the construction and the 'assembly are greatly simplified and operational safety is increased.
The invention will be described below, by way of example and with the aid of the drawing in which:
fig. I shows a top view and partially in section of two assembled links,
fig. 2 is a side view of the bracelet,
fig. 3 is a cross section showing the assembly of the cylinder.
The bracelet is formed of links I made up of sections of a base profile called a ball hole, the shape of which is indicated in fig. 2.
The profile comprises on one side a projecting edge or ball 2 of circular section and on the other side a groove 3 of circular section. The upper face of the links is flat and their lower face is slightly concave and has an extra thickness or lip 4.
The edge 2 is sectioned in the middle to form a clearance 5, the bottom of which has a groove 5a in which a cylinder 6 is arranged as an assembly element. The cylinder 6 has a hole 7 which, in the variant of FIG. 3, is threaded to receive a fixing screw 8, the head 9 of which is received in a clearance 10 from a bore in the lip 4 of the link I. The axis of the screw 8 is inclined relative to the plane of the upper face of the link to leave enough material for the edge of the lip 4. The fixing screw 8 can also be replaced by a pin driven into the hole 7 of the cylinder 6, this hole not being threaded in this case, and the end of the pin located in an opening or clearance of corresponding diameter of the lip 4.
The above shows that the cylinder 6 is integral with the link 1 in the groove of which it is fixed by a screw or a pin and that it prevents any lateral movement of the neighboring link which moreover is held in place longitudinally and in an articulated manner by its edge 2 engaged in the groove of the first link. The articulation of the links is allowed by the play of the cylinder 6 in the clearance 5 of the edge 2 and by the fact that spaces 11 and i la are provided on either side of the neck 12 connecting the edge to its own link body.
In a variant of the bracelet according to the invention, the cylinder 6 is omitted, a screw or similar fixing element secured to a first link and protruding into the groove thereof is simply engaged in the central clearance 5 of the edge 2 of the neighboring link, the length of the clearance 5 being adapted to the dimension of this screw or fixing element.
The assembly of the links together in the first embodiment is carried out as follows. The edge 2 of a first link is engaged in the groove 3 of the preceding link over a length such that the clearance 5 and the other part of the edge 2 are located outside the groove 3. The cylinder 6 is placed in the clearance 5, on the groove 5a thereof and the first link, with the cylinder 6 in its clearance, is moved laterally so that the cylinder 6 and the other part of the edge 2 fully penetrate into groove 3 of the previous link.
Using a suitable tool, for example a pin, passed through the bore of the lip 4, the cylinder 6 is turned until its hole 7 comes in front of the bore of the lip 4 and the screw 8 or a similar element such as a pin is introduced through this hole in the cylinder 6 to make it integral with the link.
In the second embodiment, the assembly is even simpler since it suffices to introduce in a single operation the edge 2 of a first link in the groove 3 of the previous link. A screw or other fixing element is then fixed to the preceding link in the bore of the lip 4 thereof, so that this element enters the clearance 5 of the edge 2 of the first link.
The above shows that the construction and assembly of the links of the bracelet according to the invention are simple and easy and that operational safety is ensured by the fact that the links are assembled together without any moving part.
In the first embodiment, the cylinder 6 is not visible when the links are assembled, so that this cylinder can be made of a material different from that of the links, for example steel if the links are made of gold.
