7. Coupling according to one of claims 1 or 2, characterized in that the latching formation of the sleeve is constituted by a circular groove opening towards the inside of this sleeve, while the latching formation of the male part is constituted by a series of projections emerging from the wall of the pipe and arranged on a circumference of the latter.
The present invention relates to a coupling of plastic pipes. There are different types of pipe coupling comprising a female part located at one end of a pipe having an enlarged sleeve, the internal diameter of which corresponds to the external diameter of the pipe, and a male part formed by the end d another pipe.
The disadvantage of this type of coupling is that, if the pipes are simply fitted into one another, there is a great risk during laying in excavation, in particular if this laying is carried out mechanically, that the sections become uncoupled. So far, we have therefore been led to provide in addition an operation, generally manual, for fixing the two sections of pipes to one another.
The object of the present invention is to produce a coupling of pipes which supports a tensile force of the order of 20 to 69 kg.
The subject of the invention is a coupling of plastic pipes, which is characterized in that the sleeve of the female part is integral with the pipe and that it comprises one or more latching formations, and in that the male part of the coupling formed by the end of the other pipe comprises corresponding snap formations cooperating, in the coupled service position, with the snap formations of the female part.
Figs. 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawing illustrate schematically and by way of example three embodiments of the coupling according to the present invention.
The first embodiment, illustrated in FIG. 1, of the pipe coupling comprises a female part 1, carried by one of the ends of a section of pipe 2, and a male part 3 carried by one of the ends of another section of pipe 4.
The male part 3 of the coupling has projections 5 obtained, for example, by hot deformation of the wall of the pipe 4 made of thermoformable synthetic material. These projections 5 may be two in number or, more generally, are uniformly distributed around the circumference of the pipe 4 and centered on a transverse plane, perpendicular to the axis of said pipe 4.
The female part 1 of the coupling consists of a sleeve 6, welded to the end of the pipe 2 or obtained by thermoforming of the end of this pipe 2 made of thermoformable plastic. The internal diameter D of this sleeve 6 is equal to or slightly greater than the external diameter d of the pipe 4, so that the end of the latter can be threaded with gentle friction or with a slight play in the sleeve 6.
This sleeve has a snap formation formed by a groove 7 of larger diameter, open on the inside of the sleeve 6, intended to receive the projections 5 of the male part 3 of the coupling. The distance L separating the median plane of this groove 7 from the end of the sleeve 6 connected to the pipe 2 corresponds approximately to the distance I separating the end of the male part of the coupling from the transverse plane passing through the top of the projections 5 .
Thus, when the male part 3 is introduced into the female part 1 of the coupling, the end of the tube 4 carrying the projections is elastically deformed, then resumes its shape when the projections 5 engage in the groove 7. We realize thus the coupling of the two pipes 2, 4 by snap-fastening. The dimensions of the projections 5 and of the groove 7 are such that, taking into account the dimensions of the pipe 4 and of the sleeve 6 as well as the material constituting them, a force of 20 to 60 kg is necessary to fit or disengage the coupling.
This operation can thus be performed either manually or mechanically when laying the pipes.
To seal such a coupling, it suffices to provide a seal between the internal surface of the sleeve 6 and the external surface of the pipe 7.
In the second embodiment of the coupling, illustrated in FIG. 2, the snap-in formations of the sleeve 6 are formed by two or more deformations 8 of the wall of this sleeve 6, obtained by thermoforming, projecting inside the sleeve. These deformations cooperate with holes (or openings) 9 formed in the end 3 of the pipe 4 forming the male part of the coupling.
This embodiment of the coupling is particularly advantageous because the openings 9 can be made in the pipe 4 at the same time as its cutting operation following its extrusion, so that the production of the male part 3 does not require no recovery operation.
In the third embodiment, illustrated in FIG. 3, the male part 3 has oblong openings 10 which are greater in number than the deformations 8 of the female part 6 (which is identical to that of the second embodiment). This has the advantage that the joining of the pipes can be carried out in a greater number of relative angular positions of the pipes 2, 4 than that is the case in the second embodiment.
This type of coupling described is particularly well suited for joining drainage pipes which are generally laid mechanically.
It is obvious that, in a variant, the openings 9, 10 can be made in the wall of the sleeve 6, while the deformations 8 will be made in the wall of the male part 3. These deformations 8 will then protrude from the wall of hose 4.
