The invention relates to a method for introducing air or oxygen bubbles into sewage sludge or other liquids highly contaminated with organic substances by means of an injector having a liquid nozzle.
For the aerobic treatment of sewage sludge, it is known to add oxygen in the form of air or pure oxygen gas. A practical method consists in the use of a so-called water jet pump, often also called an injector, which is installed in a circulation line via which the sewage sludge located in an aeration tank is circulated by means of a circulation pump. The injector distributes air or pure oxygen in the form of small bubbles in the sewage sludge.
It has been shown that the smaller the diameter of the introduced bubbles, the higher the biological effectiveness of the introduced air or pure oxygen (European Offenlegungsschrift 0 053 777). In practice, however, it has been shown that the known methods for introducing air or oxygen bubbles into sewage sludge have the disadvantage that the introduction of the air or oxygen bubbles is not optimal when the sewage sludge has different viscosities. Furthermore, the injectors used for gassing water are poorly suited for use with sewage sludge because they easily clog.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a method and a device for introducing air or oxygen bubbles into sewage sludge or other liquids which are highly contaminated with organic substances.
through which a more efficient and trouble-free operation than before is possible.
According to the invention, this is achieved in a method of the type mentioned at the outset by adjusting the cross section of the liquid nozzle in accordance with the predetermined size of the air or oxygen bubbles in the sewage sludge or the liquid. This adjustment makes it possible to adapt the mode of operation of the injector to the power of the pump used and the viscosity of the sewage sludge or the liquid, and to achieve small-diameter air or oxygen bubbles in the sewage sludge, which increases the biological effectiveness of the air or pure oxygen introduced. The smaller the bubbles, the larger the effective surface of the amount of oxygen introduced. Furthermore, small bubbles have little buoyancy and are therefore effective for a very long time.
In this way, the biological effectiveness of the air or pure oxygen introduced is increased accordingly.
The device for carrying out the method has an injector with a liquid nozzle, an air or oxygen suction opening and a mixing chamber and is characterized in that adjusting means are provided for adjusting the cross section of the liquid nozzle. It has been shown that the adjustment of the liquid nozzle cross section is important for the size of the air or oxygen bubbles.
According to an advantageous embodiment, the adjusting means have a valve body which is arranged coaxially to the liquid nozzle and is axially movable by a rod.
This configuration is simple in construction. It is particularly advantageous if the rod for actuating the valve body is formed by a tube which at the same time serves to supply air or oxygen to the air intake opening. The great advantage of this design is that, in addition to the tube for the air supply, which is required anyway, no special rod is required, on which fibrous material contained in the sewage sludge could get caught and interfere with the function of the injector. The valve body is expediently firmly connected to the tube. This results in a simple and trouble-free construction.
The said tube can have a thread that is screwed into a threaded connector arranged in the wall of the line leading to the liquid nozzle.
The thread enables the valve body to be adjusted and at the same time acts as a labyrinth seal, so that no special seals are necessary at the point where the pipe leads through the wall of the pipe for the sewage sludge. A handwheel or a handle for rotating the tube in the threaded connector is expediently arranged on the tube. This enables easy adjustment.
The invention will now be described with reference to the drawing. It shows:
Fig. 1 is a schematic representation of an aeration tank, in which the sewage sludge is circulated and aerated with air or pure oxygen gas, and
Fig. 2 shows a section through an injector according to an embodiment of the invention.
The aeration tank 11 shown in FIG. I has an inlet 13 and an outlet 15 for sewage sludge. If sewage sludge is mentioned in this description, this is only done, for example, because the method and the device are also suitable for other liquids which are highly contaminated with organic substances, e.g. B. for liquid manure from animal fattening farms. The sewage sludge is used for ventilation
circulated by means of the circulation pump 17. Sewage sludge is transported via line 19 to an aeration device 21, where air or oxygen bubbles are introduced into the sewage sludge. The handwheel 23 indicates that the ventilation device 21 can be adjusted in accordance with the desired size of the air or oxygen bubbles in the sewage sludge or the liquid.
An embodiment of the ventilation device 21 is shown in more detail in FIG. 2. As can be seen, the ventilation device 21 essentially consists of an injector. This consists essentially of a pipe bend 19 'which narrows to form a nozzle 25 which opens into the mixing chamber 27. A pipe 29 leads through the nozzle 25 for the supply of air or oxygen. The tube end 31 forms the air or oxygen intake opening of the injector. On the tube 29 there is a valve body 33 which closes the nozzle 25 in the position shown. In operation, however, it leaves an annular gap through which the sewage sludge can enter the mixing chamber 27. The valve body 33 is firmly connected to the tube 29. This tube can be moved axially to adjust the valve body.
For this purpose, the pipe has a thread 35 and is screwed into a threaded connector 37 which leads through the wall of the pipe bend 19 'and expediently forms a piece with it.
A handwheel or a handle 23 is arranged on the upper part of the tube 29 in order to rotate the tube 29 and thus to adjust the valve body 33 so that the gap at the nozzle 25 is enlarged or reduced. By changing this gap, i. H. of the cross section through which the sewage sludge can flow from the nozzle 25 into the mixing chamber 27, the mode of operation of the injector is adapted to the performance of the pump used and the viscosity of the sewage sludge, the diameter of the air or oxygen entering through the opening 31 formed bubbles is changed.
It is readily apparent to the person skilled in the art that sewage sludge can rise in the pipe 29 when the device is at a standstill.
However, this does not impair the function of the device because there are no rods or the like inside the tube for actuating the valve body 33, and there is therefore no danger that dirt will accumulate on such parts and the tube 29 may become blocked.
