The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a high voltage insulator for the exterior and an insulator produced according to this method.
Many high-voltage insulators for outdoor use, in particular insulators for the ends of high-voltage cables, consist of cylindrical or conical pieces of porcelain, comprising a series of bells which serve to increase the dielectric strength. Porcelain is a proven, well known and widely used material for the manufacture of electrical insulators of all kinds. However, it has the defect of being fragile and heavy. If the use of porcelain insulators is well suited for high voltage outdoor insulators up to 400 kV, the production of insulators for voltages above 750 kV becomes delicate and expensive.
To overcome these drawbacks, insulators have been proposed which consist of a cylindrical core of synthetic material, in particular of hardened resin reinforced with glass fiber, on which are mounted, stacked one on top of the other, bells produced by molding a material such as for example silicone.
However, silicone, which lends itself particularly well to molding, is a very expensive material. In addition, the manufacture of conical insulators would require the production of a large number of molds, the mounting on the core of the grond number of bells necessary for very high voltage (about 100 bells for an 800 kV insulator), would constitute a tedious work.
By adding the price of the material, the cost of the molds and the cost of assembly work, we would end up with a product that would not be competitive.
The present invention proposes to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks by producing an insulator which can be manufactured according to an at least partially continuous and mechanized process, and using materials which are relatively less expensive than silicone.
To this end, the method according to the invention is characterized in that a flexible profile made of synthetic material is continuously extruded, this profile comprising a substantially planar strip and a protruding fin connected to the external face of this strip, in what is helically wound this profile on the outer surface of a rigid core of cylindrical or conical shape, so as to join the adjacent turns of the strip of the profile, and in that the two ends of the profile at the ends of the core by means of fasteners.
The insulator produced according to this method is characterized in that it comprises a core of insulating material and an outer casing intended to improve the dielectric strength of the insulator, this casing being produced by means of a mentjointifélicoïdal winding of a profile constituted by a substantially planar strip and by a protruding fin connected to the outer face of this strip, and fixing members for making the ends of the profile of the ends of the core integral.
The present invention will be better understood with reference to the description of an exemplary embodiment and the attached drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 represents a sectional view of a preferred embodiment of the profile used for the production of an insulator according to the invention,
FIG. 2 represents a variant of the profile represented by FIG. 1, and
FIG. 3 represents a partial view of an insulator according to the invention.
With reference to fig. 1, the profile 1 shown in cross section is made of a rubber based on ethylene and propylene (EPR) by an extrusion process. It consists of a substantially flat strip 2 having an inner face 3 and an outer face 4. At the outer face 4 of the strip 2, a protruding fin 5 is formed attached by its base to this outer face. The fin 5 has a substantially planar upper face 6 and a lower face provided with two protrusions 7 substantially parallel to the plane of the strip 2.
The free end of the fin 5 is curved to form a
protuberance 8 commonly known as a drop of water. The protrusions 7 and 8 are on the one hand intended to lengthen the bypass path without it being necessary to increase the length of the insulator, and on the other hand to provide better protection for use in polluted areas.
The axis of the fin 5 is inclined relative to the horizontal and forms, with the plane of the strip 2, an angle between forty-five and ninety degrees, and preferably close to seventy degrees. In the present case, the lower edge of the strip 2 has a recess 9 and the upper edge of the strip has a complementary protrusion 10, arranged in such a way that when the profile is wound according to the method described below on a cylindrical core or conical, the protuberance 10 engages in the recess 9 of the immediately adjacent turn.
Fig. 2 shows a somewhat simplified embodiment of the profile described with reference to FIG. 1. This profile 11 also includes a substantially flat strip 12, having an inner face 13 and an outer face 14. To the strip 12 is attached a fin 15, the upper surface 15 of which is substantially flat and the lower surface of which comprises a single bulge 18 at the free end of the fin 15.
The recess 9 and the protuberance 10 of FIG. 1 are replaced, in the case of FIG. 2, by two biases 19 parallel and oriented approximately at forty-five degrees relative to the plane of the strip 12.
The insulator, produced by means of these profiles and represented by FIG. 3, comprises a central core 20, formed in a known manner from an insulating material such as epoxy resin hardened and reinforced by means of glass fibers, and a continuous helical winding of the profile on the external surface of this core.
In the example shown, the core has a slightly conical shape, but could of course also have a cylindrical shape or any other suitable shape. The ends of the profile are preferably fixed by means of fixing flanges 22 and 23 known per se.
After extrusion and possibly vulcanization of the profile which it is envisaged to use for the production of the insulator, the lower end of this profile is fixed to the core 20 by means of the fixing flange 22, and it is wound continuously , after possible gluing of the inner face 3, 13, the strip 2, 12, so as to form contiguous turns which partially overlap at the junction, while exerting traction on the profile. When the entire height of the core is covered by the winding of the profile, this profile is sectioned and the free end is fixed by means of the fixing flange 23.
For insulators of small dimension, when the vulcanization of the profile has not been carried out before the winding of the latter on the core, it is possible to carry out this operation by introducing the insulator mounted in a vulcanization oven.
For relatively large parts, when the profile has been vulcanized beforehand, this vulcanization is completed, at the junction of the turns, by an appropriate localized treatment, for example a heat treatment applied at the junction zone. Of course, any other vulcanization process known per se can also be applied to ensure good welding at the junction of the adjacent turns of the profile wound on the rigid core.
