Abstract

The two-dimensional goods to be structured are subjected, in a continuous process, first to a heat treatment which varies over the surface of the goods by passing the goods, in the dry state, through the nip of a heated embossing calender roll pair which exerts pressure on the goods. After passing through the embossing calender, the goods are then irradiated with high energy rays and finally brought into contact with monomeric substances to be grafted thereon. Two-dimensional goods having three-dimensional patterns are thus obtained in a one-step process. These structured goods furthermore exhibit improved dye receptivity and moisture absorption as well as improved antistatic behaviour.
