EMI1.2
d = Drahtdurchmesser G = Schubmodul s = Federweg Dm = mittlerer Windungsdurchmesser if = Anzahl der federnden Windungen T = Schubspannung k = 1 bis 1,4

4. Contact module according to claim 3, characterized in that the pin extension (11) is made of electrically highly conductive material and / or is coated therewith.
The invention relates to a resilient contact module for measuring and testing purposes, with a sleeve in one end of which a contact end is centered and fastened and in the other end a contact piston is fitted, which is longitudinally displaceable towards the contact end by tensioning a coil spring arranged in the sleeve .
In contact modules of this type used in practice, the contact piston has a single bearing point in the sleeve which serves to guide it longitudinally. A helical spring is clamped between the end face of the contact piston and the contact end fastened in the sleeve. Such contact modules are used for the temporary establishment of electrical connections and are required, for example, for testing electrical circuit boards which contain a large number of electronic switching elements. Here, the test current is introduced into the tip of the contact piston and flows via the piston, the sleeve and the coil spring to the contact end, from where it is passed on to a further component or test device via a plug-in sleeve with cable.
In order to be able to carry out a faultless and reliable test, it is necessary to keep the contact resistance Re of the contact module as low as possible. But according to the equation:
EMI1.1
Re = contact resistance c = constant F = contact force necessary to make the contact force as large as possible, which is applied in the known contact modules by the force of the coil spring.
The equation applies to the spring force:
EMI1.2
d = wire diameter G = shear modulus s = spring travel Dm = average winding diameter if = number of springy turns T = shear stress k = 1 to 1.4
It should also be taken into account that the force that can be applied by the spring is limited by the maximum permissible shear stress z max
EMI1.3
In order to be able to meet both conditions, the spring and thus the spring travel must be made as long as possible.
The object of the invention is to utilize this knowledge to constructively redesign the known contact module while maintaining its overall length such that a longer coil spring can be installed in a sleeve with predetermined constant dimensions, which provides a higher contact force and a reduction in contact resistance. Furthermore, in accordance with the now extended stroke of the contact piston, an improved bearing of the contact piston in the sleeve is to be achieved in order to keep the deviation of the extended contact piston tip from the central position less than approximately 0.06 mm, even with a high number of load cycles.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the contact piston has two spatially separate guide bearing points in the sleeve, between which the spring extends with at least part of its length.
The piston is expediently guided on one side of the sleeve with a bearing collar, projects through the helical spring with a pin extension which is offset in diameter for this purpose, and is mounted at the free end of the pin extension in a central bore in the contact end. Since the bearing collar can be made quite narrow due to the additional second bearing point, the installation length of the spring is increased. At the same time, the lateral guidance of the piston is decisively improved by the double bearing and thus a higher, trouble-free number of load cycles is achieved. The coil spring is guided through the pin extension on the inside. This prevents the coil spring from buckling and the associated premature wear of the sleeve, which is usually made of a copper alloy.
The pin extension also creates an additional current bridge and thus also contributes to the desired reduction in the contact resistance of the contact block. The contact module can be manufactured in a tightly packed contact design. You get by with a minimum number of individual parts; an additional sleeve is not necessary.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing and explained in more detail below.
The contact module consists of a sleeve 1, which surrounds a contact end 2, a contact piston 3 and a coil spring 4. The sleeve 1 is rolled into an annular groove 5 of the contact end 2 and thereby holds it positively. On the slotted ball head 6 of the contact end 2 protruding from the sleeve 1, a plug-in sleeve with a cable (not shown) can be attached, which connects the contact module to other electrical components or to test devices.
The contact piston 3 is guided in two guide bearings 7 and 8 of the sleeve 1. It consists of a contact tip 9, a bearing collar 10 and fitted into the sleeve 1 with play
a pin extension 11 of this diameter, the free end of which is carried out centrally by the helical spring 4 and is slidably fitted into a bore 12 in the contact end 2. The helical spring 4 clamped between the contact end 2 and the bearing collar 10 of the contact piston contacts the contact piston against the bottom 13 of the sleeve 1.
When using the contact module for testing an electrical switching element, the contact tip 9 is pressed onto the switching element. The contact plunger 3 is lifted from the bottom 13 of the sleeve 1 with further tensioning of the helical spring 4 and shifted towards the contact end 2 until a sufficiently high contact force and thus a sufficiently low contact resistance from the contact tip 9 to the switching element is reached.
The table below gives a comparison of the design data according to the invention with the values which have been achievable so far, the outer diameter of the sleeve in each case being approximately 1 mm and the inner diameter approximately 0.5 mm.
So far inventions according to the total length of the contact component 33.0 mm 33.0 mm length of the sleeve 23.4 mm 23.4 mm total length of the piston guide 9.6 mm 16.0 mm lateral piston play (relative) 100% 60% spring force preload 44, 2 p 93.5 p final spring force 204.0 p 201.0 p piston travel 5.1 mm 5.1 mm Space for spring in the axial direction 11.4 mm 15.4 mm.
Since the spring end force is approximately the same in both cases, but the initial force in the construction according to the invention is far higher than in the previously known contact modules, the course of the spring characteristic curve is much flatter in the desired manner than before. This has the advantage that a high contact force is available right at the beginning of the movement of the contact piston, without the surface load and wear of the contact tip being higher than before. The greater contact force brings about a reduction in the contact resistance and therefore an improvement in the metrological quality of the contact module. The pin extension 11 of the contact piston 3, which consists of a highly conductive material and is coated with a material of higher conductivity, for example silver, serves to further reduce the contact resistance.
