Abstract

The process for producing a sheet-like structure with anchored pile involves: a) dividing up thread bundles consisting of parallelised pile threads and held together under a pressure acting perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the bundles on all sides, b) conveying the thread-bundle portions further in steps, c) cutting the thread-bundle portions to form pile-thread portions of predetermined length, d) cutting open the foil casing in order to cancel the pressure on the pile fibres, before or after step (c), e) anchoring the pile threads on the sheet-like structure, the free thread ends of the pile-thread portions being held by a porous support by means of a vacuum, and this support, together with the pile-thread portions, being moved under a persisting vacuum to a receiving station, in which the anchoring of the pile-thread portions takes place. The process allows the production and further processing of encased pile-thread bundles for the manufacture of short-pile fabric, in which the pile-thread height is smaller than the bundle diameter, in an economical way and fully automatically. <IMAGE>
