Abstract
For the spray application of colorants and/or other finishing materials onto a web of fibrous material, the operation is carried out during passage through an electrostatic field in a spray application device which possesses a net-shaped electrode and a mass electrode for generating the electrostatic field and a nozzle or a nozzle assembly comprising a plurality of such nozzles; during the process the web, on its way through the spray application device, passes through the range of influence of an electrostatic field which extends between a mass electrode (1) and a net-shaped electrode (2); the electrodes are arranged at a distance from one another and enclose an acute angle between them which is open towards the nozzle or towards the nozzle assembly (3) comprising a plurality of such nozzles; it is thereby made possible for the spray mist of sprayed substance from the nozzle(s) inclined towards the web surface, obliquely in the web travel direction, at an angle different from 90 DEG to be deflected in the electrostatic field between the two electrodes (1, 2) onto the surface of the web being transported closely past the mass electrode (1) and parallel to the latter without contact with voltage-carrying parts of the device and to be deposited on the surface of said web. <IMAGE>
