Insbesondere besteht die zu lösende Aufgabe darin, einen Flansch zu schaffen, der auf Schweissautomaten schnell und einwandfrei am Rohrende befestigt werden kann. Des weiteren soll der Flansch ein Biegen des Rohres nicht behindern, so dass es möglich ist, zuerst die Flansche an die Enden eines Rohres anzubringen und anschliessend das Rohrstück zu einem Rohrbogen zu biegen. Schliesslich soll der tragende Querschnitt des Rohres durch Anbringung des Flansches nicht beeinträchtigt werden. Bei der zu schaffenden Flanschverbindung soll der Einsatz hochwertiger Materialien auf die Bereiche beschränkt sein, in denen hohe Anforderungen hinsichtlich Korrosionsbeständigkeit und Festigkeit gestellt werden, und in weniger beanspruchten Abschnitten soll geringwertigeres, d.h. billigeres Material zum Einsatz kommen, so dass auch bezüglich des Materialeinsatzes ein Optimum erzielt wird.Flanges are usually used to connect pipes in a detachable manner.
