Description
The invention relates to a strip-shaped conductor with a plurality of conductor cores composed of superconductor material and metal normally electrically conductive at the operating temperature of the superconductor material, which are stranded around a band of non-magnetic, electrically normally conductive, metallic material of high tensile strength.
Such band-shaped conductors are particularly suitable for applications in which they are to carry high currents on the one hand and consequently have to have a relatively large overall cross section but in which on the other hand they are said to have only low AC losses. Such alternating current losses can arise, for example, in superconducting coils operated with direct current as a result of the changes in current and magnetic field when the coils are excited, or due to the induction effect of variable external magnetic fields in which the coils are located, or when coils are operated with pulsed currents. The latter two cases occur, for example, in the case of superconducting magnet coils for the inclusion of plasmas in fusion reactors or corresponding experimental facilities.
The band of non-magnetic, metallic material lying within the band-shaped conductor serves on the one hand as a carrier for the individual conductor wires and, on the other hand, is intended to absorb at least part of the tensile forces acting within the coil winding during operation of the coils. As a rule, its tensile strength should be higher than that of the normally conductive material of the conductor wires themselves, for example of copper or aluminum.
The individual conductors stranded around the tape can each contain a superconducting wire or thread-like core, as in the case of a band-shaped conductor known from DT-PS 1 639 421, in particular column 5, line 1 to column 6, line 6 a stabilizing metal jacket, for example made of copper, is surrounded.
AS However, it is even cheaper, especially in the case of magnetic coils that are operated with pulsed currents or are exposed to relatively rapidly changing fields, if the individual conductor wires are designed as multi-core conductors, i.e. in a matrix of good electrical and thermal conductivity, and electrically normal conductive at the operating temperature of the superconductor Metal, such as copper or aluminum, contain a variety of superconducting filaments. The filaments of the individual conductor cores can advantageously be twisted around the axis of the cores (compare DT-PS 1439 266 and DT-AS
A ribbon-shaped conductor, in which conductor cores consisting of such multi-core conductors are wound around a ribbon-shaped carrier, is, for example, an intermediate product in the manufacture of a waveguide from the DT-OS
2 035 654, insbesondere Fig. 10, bekannt. 2,035,654, in particular FIG. 10.
In the case of magnetic coils, in which the conductor is exposed to variable magnetic field components both parallel and perpendicular to the course of the superconducting filaments, it may also be expedient to change the sense of rotation of the twist within the individual conductor cores according to certain intervals, so that a so-called «alternating twist »Emerges (compare the essay by Ries and Jüngst in« CRYOGENICS »16 (1976), pages 143 to 146).
The superconducting filaments of the conductor cores can consist, for example, of superconducting alloys, such as niobium-titanium alloys, and can be embedded in a copper matrix, for example. Also suitable are superconductor cores which contain filaments made of intermetallic compounds, such as NbsSn or VsGa, which are, for example, in a. Matrix made of a copper-tin or copper-gallium-bronze are embedded. The latter conductor wires can then be additionally stabilized, for example with copper.
The division of the conductor into individual cores with a large number of filaments, the twisting of these filaments around the core axis and the stranding of the cores around a band means that in comparison to a simple band-shaped conductor

Falls die Kontaktwiderstände zwischen den nebeneinander liegenden Leiteradern zur wirksamen Unterdrückung von Wirbelströmen, die mehrere Leiteradern umgreifen, nicht ausreichen sollten, können die Leiteradern zusätzlich durch elektrisch isolierendes Material oder elektrisch normalleitendes Metall voneinander getrennt werden, welches schlechter leitet als das Stabilisierungsmetall der Leiter selbst. superconductors that run parallel to one another and are embedded in good electrically normal-conducting metal, as is known, for example, from FR-PS 1440 228, largely suppresses the formation of eddy currents and thus AC losses in the normally conducting metal of the conductor wires. If the contact resistances between the adjacent conductor cores are not sufficient to effectively suppress eddy currents that encompass several conductor cores, the conductor cores can also be separated from one another by electrically insulating material or electrically normal-conductive metal, which conducts poorly than the stabilizing metal of the conductor itself.
The object of the invention is to design a conductor of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that eddy currents are suppressed as much as possible even in the band of high tensile strength and the AC losses are thus also kept very small in this band.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that an insulating layer is provided in the central plane of the band made of the metallic material with high tensile strength.
This can be implemented in a technically particularly advantageous manner such that the insulating layer consists of ceramic powder and is enclosed on all sides by the metallic material of the band.
Such a tape can be produced in a similar way to so-called mineral-insulated lines and has the particular advantage that the insulating material consisting of ceramic powder is resistant even at higher temperatures, as occurs, for example, when the conductor wires are soldered to the tape, which will be explained elsewhere can. If very long tapes, i.e. several kilometers long tapes, are required for large coil windings, several lengths of the tape can be welded together. The insulation may be interrupted at the welding points, but since this is only the case at a few points within a coil, the interruption is unlikely to have any adverse effects.
In a further development of the invention, in which the insulating layer consists of a film of insulating material, around which the metallic material of the band is folded, the insulation is not interrupted even with very long bands. Here, the production lengths of the metal strip can simply be connected to one another and then folded with the insulating film inserted.
If very high tensile strengths are required for the strip, it is advantageous to use an alloy of 75 to 80% by weight of nickel, 15 to 21% by weight for the metallic material of the strip.
Chromium and, apart from other additives totaling less than 2%, iron as the rest. Such alloys are known, for example, under the standard designation NiCr 80 20. Another advantageous possibility is to use a steel for the metallic material of the strip, which, apart from minor additions of tungsten, titanium and tantalum, consists essentially of 18% by weight chromium, 8% by weight nickel and the balance iron .
If less stringent requirements are placed on the tensile strength, the metallic material of the strip can also be made of a copper-nickel alloy, for example with about 30% by weight of nickel, 0.4 to 1% by weight of iron and 0.5 to 1.5% by weight of manganese. This material has the advantage that it can be soldered to the conductor wires even better than the aforementioned, for example by means of a resistance solder made of 95% by weight of tin and 5% by weight of silver.
The ceramic powder for the insulating material within the band can advantageously consist of metal oxide. Magnesium oxide is particularly favorable because of its high resistance. However, oxide mixtures, for example made of magnesium oxide and silicon oxide, can also be used.
For the conductor, in which the metallic material of the tape with high tensile strength is folded around a film made of insulating material, films made of insulating plastic are particularly suitable. A polyimide film, for example Kapton, which withstands the temperature of 280 ° C. required for the tin-silver solder already mentioned, is particularly favorable in the event that the conductor wires are to be soldered to the tape or to one another.
The production of the band-shaped conductor, in which the insulating layer in the middle plane of the band of high tensile strength consists of ceramic powder, can advantageously be carried out in such a way that first a tube made of such a material with ceramic powder or is used to produce the band from non-magnetic, electrically normally conductive, metallic material of high tensile strength Powderable ceramic crushing sticks or tubes filled and closed at the ends, then reduced by drawing in cross-section at least until the ceramic powder or the powdered ceramic crushing sticks or tubes are compacted into a compact powder mass and finally deformed into a band by wide rolling and then this is done manufactured tape is wrapped with the conductor wires.
It is very important that the powder is compacted to a compact mass before the wide rolling, since a BaTid of uniform width can practically not be achieved when a pipe is rolled with undensified powder.
If necessary, heat treatments to recover the metallic material can be carried out between the drawing or rolling steps.
After the tape has been wrapped with the conductor wires, the conductor wires can also be soldered to the tape and to one another. The already mentioned tin-silver solder is particularly suitable for this.
The invention will be explained in more detail with the aid of a few figures and exemplary embodiments.
1 and 2 schematically show in cross section two exemplary embodiments of the conductor according to the invention.
Beispiel 1 example 1
To produce the conductor shown in FIG. 1, in which the insulating layer 2 arranged within the band 1 from the material of high tensile strength consists of ceramic powder and in which, for example, the band 1 in the final state is to be 1 mm thick and 15 mm wide, first a Pipe with an outer diameter of 11.5 mm and an inner diameter of 8.5 mm made of an alloy consisting essentially of 76% by weight of nickel, 15.5% by weight of chromium, 8.0% by weight of iron and consists of small parts by weight of manganese, silicon and copper, filled with magnesium oxide powder and sealed at the ends. Then the tube is drawn in four passes to an outside diameter of 8.5 mm, then annealed for about 1 hour at 950 ° C under a protective gas atmosphere made of hydrogen and finally drawn in a further step to an outside diameter of about 8 mm. During the individual trains, which primarily serve to compress the magnesium oxide powder, the wall thickness of the tube is only slightly reduced. The tube with the outer diameter of 8 mm is then rolled in three passes into a strip with a cross-sectional area of approximately 12.6 mm x 3.2 mm. The strip is then annealed for another hour at 950 ° C. under hydrogen and then brought to the final dimension of 15 mm × 1 mm cross-sectional area in five further rolling passes and a final calibration step.
Dies hat den Vorteil, dass an den beiden Breitseiten des As can be clearly seen from FIG. 1, the insulating layer 2 in the finished strip has a slightly lenticular cross section. This has the advantage that on the two broad sides of the

Band, especially in the middle of these broad sides, the metal cross section of the band is reduced and the band, measured between the band edges, therefore has a comparatively high electrical resistance. As a result, eddy currents are largely suppressed, which could be induced by changing magnetic fields directed perpendicular to the broad sides of the belt. The eddy currents excited by changing magnetic field components directed parallel to the broad sides are largely suppressed by the insulating layer 2. Despite the reduced metal cross section in the middle of the respective broad side of the strip 1, its tensile strength is practically not impaired, since a metal cross section sufficient to maintain the high tensile strength is still available.
Finally, for example 24 conductor wires 3 are wound around the finished strip. The conductor cores, which may initially have a circular cross section with a diameter of 1.45 mm, consist, for example, of a copper matrix in which a large number of niobium-titanium filaments 4 are embedded, as is indicated schematically in one of the conductor cores 3. For example, each conductor wire 3 can contain 1710 filaments with a diameter of 20 mm each, which are twisted about the wire axis with a twist length of about 20 mm. The lay length when the conductor wires 3 are twisted around the tape 1 can be 170 mm, for example.
The finished conductor can also be subjected to a calibration process, for example by rolling, which leads to an increase in the packing density and which results in the cross-sectional shape of the conductor wires 3 which differs from the circular shape and which can be seen in FIG. 1.
Beispiel 2 Example 2
In the conductor shown in Fig. 2, the insulating layer, which is embedded in the central plane of the band 11 made of metallic material with high tensile strength, consists of a polyimide film 12, for example Kapton. The tape 11 can be produced in a simple manner by folding a tape 5 approximately twice the width and half the thickness of the desired final dimensions in the manner shown in FIG. 2, the plastic film 12 being inserted at the same time. With a final thickness of the band 11 of, for example, 1 mm, the plastic film 12 can be, for example, 10 0.1 to 0.5 mm thick. Conductor cores 13, which in turn contain superconducting filaments 14, can then be wound around the finished strip in accordance with Example 1. After the last calibration step, the conductor wires 13 can also be soldered to one another and to the strip 11 by pulling the finished conductor through a bath of solder material. The previously mentioned tin-silver solder with 5% by weight of silver is particularly suitable as the solder material, which is denoted by 15 in FIG. 2. This adheres particularly well to the band 11 if its metallic material is made from the alloy of 30% by weight of nickel, 0.4 to 1% by weight of iron, 0.5 to 1.5% by weight of the 20 already mentioned. Manganese, the rest copper.
As can be seen from the two figures, the conductors according to the invention also have the further advantage that the strips 1 and 11 have well rounded edges, as a result of which damage to the conductor cores 3 and 13 when winding the strips 1 and 11 can be avoided .
Further alloys which are well suited for the metallic material of strips 1 and 11 are, for example, an alloy of approximately 76.5% by weight of nickel, 20.5% by weight of chromium, 30% by weight of iron and 1.5% by weight of silicon, the rest of usual additives and impurities or a steel which, apart from minor additions of tungsten, titanium and tantalum, essentially consists of 18% by weight of chromium, 8% by weight of nickel and the balance of iron consists.
