Die Vorrichtung wird einerseits durch Einschalten der Zündung in Betrieb gesetzt, anderseits dadurch, dass unter Zuhilfenahme des Kupplungschalters 1, des Brenisschalters 2, des Indexschalters 3, des Lenkradschalters 4 oder des Vorrichtungsschalters 5 (des weiteren Schalter 1-5) über den Körper ein Impuls zur Einschaltung des Relais Rel abgegeben wird, dessen Arbeitskontakt a schliesst, wodurch ein Impuls auf das Relais Re2 abgegeben wird; der Arbeitskontakt a desselben schliesst, den Haltestromkreis, während der Arbeitskontakt b des Relais Re2 während der aktiven Zeit der erwähnten Schalter 1-5 eine Öffnungsspannung der Basis des Transistors Trl gibt und gleichzeitig den Kondensator 19 auf eine Öffnungsspannung aufladet;

The invention relates to a method for checking the vigilance of motor vehicle drivers on roads, the control and registration of the driver's reaction time (perception time) being carried out on monotonous stretches of road; the invention likewise relates to the device for carrying out the method.
Driving a motor vehicle in a protracted, non-varied environment with little irritation leads to a decrease in the level of alertness and a reduced ability to observe; In one serious case, the success is an accident caused by the driver falling asleep. Numerous solutions have been proposed so far to be able to eliminate the risk.
For rail vehicles z. B. such devices are used that either monitor the vigilance of the driver by emitting signals whose frequency is proportional to the stored path or control the vigilance of the driver with the aid of a contact between the driver and the device.
The two basic types correspond to z. B. the device of the Swiss factory Gerlikon or the Hungarian product Intendon. The safety switch of the SIFA system can also be assigned to this group, which must be continuously operated by the engine driver, and when the operation is stopped, the lighting of the lamp followed by the sounding of the alarm horn indicates that vigilance has decreased. The circuit arrangement described in DE-AS 1199 312, which is used in electrically driven track vehicles, can also be assigned to this group.
The systems mentioned and similar cannot be used for vehicles moving on a free path, since the periodic appearance of the warning signal, which is independent of the traffic conditions, can create a dangerous situation (distraction of attention), whereby the switch to be operated regularly is itself the can increase monotonous effect (essentially automatic actuation is also possible in half-slumber), at the same time a special control element would be used in the motor vehicle. The instruments which require a constant connection with the driver are obviously unsuitable for use in vehicles for free lanes.
In order to be able to prevent the negative effects of the monotony effect on motorists on roads, a device promoting keeping awake was developed about 10 years ago in the Ford works in the USA; it was based on the fact that the tired driver is in no way able to operate the steering wheel with such fine corrective movements as the one who is in a rested state, whereby the number of backward maneuvering movements before falling asleep also decreases. The device developed in turn takes
the mentioned corrective steering wheel movements are true; should the number of movements fall below a certain predetermined value, a horn sounds. The device is extremely complicated, expensive and cannot be used universally. Another disadvantage is that only the end state immediately before falling asleep can be perceived and such factors as e.g. B. the dependency on the number of corrective steering wheel movements, the steering style, the temperament, the technical condition of the vehicle, the road traffic, etc. are neglected.
In addition, other methods of controlling vigilance have been developed, but these are generally not expedient because they require feelers mounted on the driver. An example of this is the special glasses frame that monitors the closing of the eyelid or the instrument that senses the brain waves.
When designing the method and the device according to the invention, the following considerations were taken as a basis:
The decrease in the level of vigilance of the driver only represents a hazard on monotonous stretches of road. To ward off the occurrence of the effect of monotony, industrial psychology suggests the following:
The number of stimulus effects that induce action but do not in themselves lead to monotony is to be increased or a stimulus that deviates from the usual one is to be used, which frees the driver of the vehicle from his numb state.
The level of alertness of the operating personnel must be measured in an objective way, preferably in such a way that the driver himself is continuously informed about the success or, if the value is critically low, he can intervene in the control of the machine.
With a view to the fact that the extension of the reaction or the period of perception represents the most easily measurable objective symptom of mental fatigue (Leplat, 1964), the method according to the invention and the device suitable for carrying it out were developed according to the conditions listed below
1. On every stretch of the road where there is a risk of falling asleep, a prompt signal is to be given in a random rhythm, to which the driver is obliged to react with a quick reaction corresponding to his level of alertness.
2. If in the course of the request signal a critical extension of the reaction or perception time is perceived, a warning signal - appropriately an acoustic and an optical signal - must be generated.
3. The time of the arrival of the driver's reaction following the request signal must be recorded in intervals of at least one second, or the driver should be given the opportunity to differentiate the request signal through qualitative differentiation (first a light stimulus, then light and sound stimulus) to be able to obtain information about the value of one's own reaction.
4. The level of alertness should be checked in such a way that the driver is not disturbed while driving on a busy road or while actively steering the vehicle or in a traffic situation at risk of an accident.
5. In the event of an unsuccessful warning signal triggered as a result of the critical delay in the reaction - in order to be able to ensure at least the safety of those in the vicinity of the vehicle - an alarm signal that is perceptible outside the vehicle and draws attention to the danger is to be issued.
6. The duration of the monitoring period of the device is gradually shortened, the shortening depending on the phase in which the prompt warning or
Alarm signal, the reaction of the driver required to extinguish the signal arrives; so z. B. the next monitoring period can also be shortened to a third of the original monitoring period.
The set goal is achieved by the method according to the invention as follows:
The delay of the request signal is controlled with the help of at least three operating elements (brake, index, gear, clutch, headlight flasher, exhaust brake) that are operated depending on the traffic conditions; under road conditions in which the monitored controls are not operated, a request signal is issued after a certain period of time; however, should the reaction required to switch off the request signal fail to materialize, a warning signal is output first, then an alarm signal that can also be perceived in the vicinity of the vehicle.
The device generates the light or sound stimulus which prompts the control of the reaction time, while maintaining the predetermined time constant. In order to be able to ensure that the control of the reaction time takes place only on monotonous distances and with an irregular frequency, the time constant is controlled with pulses picked up by at least three, but optimally five control elements of the motor vehicle. Each of the mentioned pulses cancels the request signal or delays its arrival by the time unit determined in the time constant in the counter. The rhythm of the request signals generated by the time constant is determined as a function of the number of monitored operating elements.
Those three control elements that are considered to be of decisive importance from the point of view of vehicle steering (and in the course of use of which the possibly distracting stimulus of the device can cause a risk of falling over) must absolutely take part in the control; these are the brake, the clutch and the direction indicator (index). With the activation of the three monitored control elements mentioned, the optimal value of the time constant according to our tests for trucks is a minimum of 80, a maximum of 120 and possibly 150 seconds.
In order to be able to fully achieve the set goal, the control takes place expediently with the involvement of all five operating elements, the value in this case being set to a minimum of 100, a maximum of 150 seconds. In this case, the controls that can be monitored are useful as follows: the brake, the clutch, the direction indicator, the exhaust door brake (the engine brake on trucks with diesel operation), the horn, the headlight flasher and possibly the steering wheel (if the steering wheel is turned more than 15) .
The request signal is advantageously given in the form of a discontinuous signal - a half-second pause, half a second signal - whereby light and sound stimuli are combined in such a way that the first two signals are optical and the other signals are combined optical and acoustic signals .
Optimally, 5 signals (= 5 seconds) are given.
the request signal is canceled with a push button. The pushbutton does not represent a new operating element, since the pushbutton is capable of restarting the time constant (the counter) only during the delivery of the request signal, the warning signal and the alarm signal.
In order to be able to eliminate the unexpected risk of accident that is reported simultaneously with the controls of the reaction (perception) time, the use of any of the operating elements that control the time constant of the device is perceived as a correct reaction by the device, so the driver only has to through the Pressing the pushbutton reacts when it is not in a situation that moves towards an active maneuver.
The device for registering the driver's reaction time is expediently connected to a tachograph, e.g. For example, the pulse generator of the Kienzleschen tachograph type TCO 15-5 or TCO 15-6 records an independent circle diagram on the tachograph sheet when connected appropriately and registers the result of the control in the form of a spike, depending on the perception time measured in the device increases every second.
Should the reaction (perception) time increase critically, the device actuates after the z. B. fifth request signal a horn, after which - after a warning of at least 15 seconds and, if the driver would still not react, - the device switches on the emergency flashing lights and possibly an external horn (= alarm). In this phase the device can only be switched off by pressing its own push button. The device is expediently connected to the supply unit via the ignition switch and is also de-energized by pulling in the handbrake, so it is not operational when the vehicle is stationary.
The method and the device according to the invention can be used universally for any motor vehicle, mechanical components are not included; the assembly is carried out simply by electrical connections, the device has a small format and can be manufactured relatively cheaply.
The method forming the subject of the invention and the device suitable for carrying it out are explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment with the aid of the accompanying drawings. Show it:
1 shows the circuit diagram of the circuit arrangement of the device according to the invention,
Fig. 2 shows the function of the device according to Fig. 1 he explanatory timing diagram,
3 shows a more detailed representation of the circuit arrangement of one of the exemplary embodiments of the device according to the invention.
In connection with the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 3, we would like to note in advance that in this case it is merely a functional design that serves as an example; of course, the task can be done in a different, more contemporary way, e.g. B. with the help of integrated circuits can be solved.
As can be seen from FIG. 1, the clutch switch 1, the brake switch 2, the index switch 3, the steering wheel switch 4 and the device switch 5 (furthermore the switches 1-5) are connected to one another in parallel with the feed unit TE of the device, in such a way that the switches mentioned are connected to the actuation circuit of the self-holding circuit 6 which is switched on for a limited time between the feed unit TE of the motor vehicle and the holding circuit 7. The first signal lamp 8, which advantageously emits a green light, is connected to one output of the holding circuit 7 with a limited duration.
The other output of the holding circuit 7 with a limited period of time is connected to the input of the switching circuit 9, one output whose one hand the signal lamp 10 is advantageously connected with a red light, while the other output is the alarm circuit 11 set for a certain period of time and the one switched afterwards Alarm device 14 is connected. A recording tachograph 12 can be connected to one output of the alarm circuit 11.
In a further developed form of the invention, the output of the alarm circuit 11 is connected to a sensor circuit 13 set for a predetermined period of time (e.g. one minute), the output of which is fed back to the input of the holding circuit 7 for a limited period of time. The other output of the sensor circuit 13 is connected to an interrupter 15 to which the flashing lights of the alarm device 16 are connected.
The third output of the sensor circuit 13 is connected to the advantageously yellow lamp 17, which is arranged on the instrument panel and which reports the level of alertness and informs the driver of the current level of alertness by means of a continuous or discontinuous light.
The diagram shown in FIG. 2 serves to explain the function of the device, which illustrates the temporal appearance of the signals of the various request, warning and alarm means according to FIG. 1 as well as the associated voltage levels. It should be noted that the time periods given in the figure serve only as an example, shorter or longer time periods can also be used.
The function time MI is plotted in seconds on the abscissa of FIG. 2, the specified values of course only being given as examples, and they can be changed as required. The signal voltages JF are plotted on the ordinate axis.
So in the first interval the voltage of the green light ZF of decreasing character is listed, which z. B.
Glows for about 60-150 seconds, provided that the manipulation does not extend the time mentioned; in the second interval the decreasing voltage of the red light PF belonging to the request signal is shown, which is followed by the warning signal PF shown with the continuous line with a 5-second delay. Advantageously, in the first 2-3 seconds of the request signal, which lasts 5 seconds, a flashing light signal lasting half a second is emitted, after which a discontinuous sound signal sounds. The aforementioned signal is followed by the aforementioned continuous warning signal, which lasts about 10 seconds. B. in the form of a sound signal and a z. B. red light signal PF.
If the driver still does not react, an alarm signal is emitted, which appears in the form of an emergency flashing light signal VVJ and is maintained permanently until it is corrected by the corresponding switch-off manipulation.
Based on Figs. 1 and 2, the mode of operation is as follows:
After the ignition has been switched on with the aid of the ignition switch, not shown here, the device is put into operation by actuating the device switch 5 in that the self-holding circuit 6 is actuated, whereby the feed unit TE is connected to the device. The same operation can be carried out by pressing any switch 1-4.
As a result, the limited period of time, e.g. B. to 30-150 seconds, set holding circuit 7 switched on, and the activity of the device indicating the green signal lamp 8 lights up.
As can be seen from FIG. 2 and as it is explained below in connection with FIG. 3, the voltage of the green light ZF falls linearly through the discharge of a capacitor and switches the prompting and when signal lamp at a given level of the signal voltage JF 10 while the green light goes out. Advantageously, the light of the second signal lamp 10 is red, and a discontinuous acoustic signal that prompts it is expediently emitted a few seconds after the light appears; in this case the driver has a period of 5-7 seconds to turn off the red light by actuating one of the switches 1-5 and to illuminate the green light indicating the activity of the device.
Should the driver of the motor vehicle neglect this manipulation, a continuous warning sound signal arises, since the alarm circuit 11 and the distributor actuate the alarm device 14 for about 10 seconds, whereby a warning sound signal is emitted in addition to the red signal light; At the same time the tachograph 12 is put into operation, which registers the appearance of the warning signal.
If the driver still does not react, the signal fed back from the output of the sensor circuit 13 to the input of the holding circuit 7 does not switch on the holding circuit 7 in its active state - in which the process begins again - then the signal at one output The interrupter 15 connected to the sensor circuit 13 also activates the alarm device 16, which functions as an alarm signal, in that the flashing lights of the car indicate an abnormal condition of the driver by continuously lighting up - falling asleep, feeling unwell - and the vehicle horn can also emit an alarm signal.
As already mentioned, in the exemplary embodiment the third output of the sensor circuit 13 is connected to the (advantageously yellow) signal lamp 17 which is arranged on the instrument panel and which reports the level of alertness and which - according to FIG. 2 - by the continuous light SF 1 or the discontinuous light SF II notifies the driver of the current state of alertness.
During the signaling of the alarm device 14 - which emits a 5 seconds long, prompting sound signal - and the red signal lamp 10, when the device z. B. is only inactivated on the effect of the third signal, the continuous yellow light lights up to warn the driver repeatedly, and within 60 seconds he receives a repeated control signal for the purpose of more recent control of the reaction time (Fig. 2, 1). This can be achieved in that in the feedback branch of the sensor circuit 13 an acceleration element 23 connected in parallel to the holding circuit 7 and connected in parallel with the terminating circuit 18 is inserted.
If, however, the device is not deactivated until the fifth signal or the continuous warning signal (Fig. 2, continuous signal PF) takes effect, a repeated check is carried out within 30 seconds, with the yellow lamp 17 indicating the alertness level flashing (Fig. 2 , II).
In these cases, the sensor circuit 13 switches off switches 1 to 5 with the aid of the terminating circuit 18, whereby the accelerated vigilance control (type 1 or II) is made possible.
In the event of a correct response to the following prompt signal (i.e., a response before the red signal lamp 10 lights up for the third time), the device will actuate switches 1-5 in the manner previously described. The deflections - the size of which corresponds to signals 1, II, the warning or alarm signals - are registered on the tachograph 12; in this way, the respective level of alertness or the driver's reaction time can also be determined retrospectively.
A possible simple solution to the device according to the invention is described in connection with FIG. In this solution, the sensor circuit 13, the tachograph 12, the interrupter 15, the alarm flashing light 16, the signal lamp 17 which indicates the level of alertness and the termination circuit 18 have been omitted. The reference symbols used in FIG. 1 are also used here for the identical components, while the components listed in the configurations described in more detail are designated by further corresponding reference symbols or reference numbers.
The drawing shown in Fig. 3 shows the idle state of the device. The device is connected to the supply unit TE (the accumulator) of the motor vehicle via the ignition switch GK. In the idle state shown, no current flows through the electrical components of the device.
The device is put into operation on the one hand by switching on the ignition, on the other hand by the fact that with the help of the clutch switch 1, the fire switch 2, the index switch 3, the steering wheel switch 4 or the device switch 5 (furthermore switches 1-5) an impulse is transmitted through the body to switch on the relay Rel is released, the working contact a closes, whereby a pulse is emitted to the relay Re2; the working contact a of the same closes the holding circuit, while the working contact b of the relay Re2 during the active time of the mentioned switches 1-5 gives an opening voltage of the base of the transistor Trl and at the same time charges the capacitor 19 to an opening voltage;
at the same time, the base of the transistor Tr2 on the emitter resistor 20 increases to an opening voltage. By opening the transistor Tr2, the relay Re3 attracts and z. B.
Calculated for 80 seconds from the release of the switches 1-5 or held in an attracted state until the capacitor 19 is discharged. When the relay Re3 is pulled in, its normally open contact a activates the operating status indicating the operating status with the help of the positive voltage secured by the contacts of the relay Re2. B.
greenē signal lamp 8, at the same time by breaking the normally closed contact b there is an interruption to the relays Re4 and Reis. If one of the switches 1-5 does not send another impulse to the relay Rel, in this example the relay Re3 is switched off after 80 seconds by closing the bases of the transistors Trl and Tr2, whereby the relay drops out and the normally closed contact b of relay Re3 emits a pulse through the attracted contacts of relay Re2 to relay Re4, which, due to the time constant determined by resistor 21 and capacitor 22, picks up with a delay, interrupts break contact a of relay Re4 and closes make contact b,
whereby the circuit of the alarm device 14 is opened and the pull-in circuit of the relay ReS is closed. As a result, the normally open contact b of the Reis relay closes. As a result of this working process, the prompting warning red signal lamp 10 lights up for the driver, which remains in a glowing state, followed by the discontinuous sound signal of the alarm device 14 for a short period of time.
If, with the help of one of the switches 1-5, the driver does not send a newer pulse to the relay Rel, after z. B. 5-7 seconds after the red light lights up, the charged capacitor 22 is discharged through the relay Re4, the relay Re4 drops out and the warning continuous sound signal of the alarm device sounds via the normally closed contact c of the aforementioned relay. If the contact of relay Re4 is released, repeated tightening cannot take place, since relay ReS is already in the tightened state and its normally closed contact a interrupts the pick-up circuit of relay Re4. The continuous signal forces the person in front of a possibly
If the driver falls asleep, actuate one of the switches 1-5 to bring the device back into an active state, d. H. to restore the rest state of the relays Re4 and Re5, whereby the red signal lamp 10 goes out and the green signal lamp 8 lights up; the prompting signal will now sound earlier, depending on the duration of the time period before the driver's reaction. The process repeats itself again. Simultaneously with the sounding of the prompting sound signal there is the possibility to do so - B.
in the case of trucks - to send an impulse to the tachograph that registers the fact that a warning signal has been given; At the same time, it is possible to switch off the ignition of the engine or to activate the emergency flashing lights of the vehicle when the alarm signal is received.
In order to be able to maintain the operating status indicated by the green light, it is sufficient to turn the steering wheel of the vehicle through a certain angle, e.g. B. to rotate a minimum of 150, with which a microswitch is operated, or to operate the associated clutch switch by pressing the clutch. All of the above-mentioned operations add about 80 seconds to the active time. According to practical experience, at least one steering wheel or clutch movement is carried out every 80 seconds in an active control station, which makes the prompting signal unnecessary.
However, if the driver drives a long, permanently straight path, the device emits a signal from time to time, as described above, on the basis of which the driver can decide whether his vigilance is sufficient to continue the journey.
It should be noted that in general the use of all switches 1-5 is superfluous, and the use of the device switch 5, the clutch switch 1 and the steering wheel switch 4 in addition to the brake switch 2 and the index switch 3 seems to be advantageous.
The tachograph can be activated by the normally closed contact <cc of the relay Re4, so in the event of an accident it can be read from the window of the tachograph whether the driver was in a state prior to falling asleep or not.
At a standstill, the device can be put out of operation by switching off the ignition. Is it intended to let the engine run in idle - e.g. B. for the purpose of heating - after the engine has been switched off, the steering wheel is set in such a position that the steering wheel switch is in an off state, so the relay Re2 does not move in, or the device retains its idle state even when the Engine is started. It is forbidden to activate the other switches, otherwise the system will be put into operation immediately.
In this state, when the driver turns with the vehicle on the path or continues the journey, the device is automatically put into operation according to what has been said before without performing any special accessory operations, the driver being able to determine this by checking the green light of the signal lamp 8 is capable of the device actively providing for the prevention of falling asleep.
