Nebengruppe, beispielsweise Platin, Ruthenium, Rhodium, Iridium.
Anthrachinonen dargestellte Nitroanthrachinone reduziert wenden.
Akad. Nauk. SSSR, Ser. C'him. 1969, I I,255()--2553).

Suitable nitroanthraquinones are, for. 13. I-nitroanthraquinone, 2-nitroanthraquinone, I-nitro-2-methylanthraquinone, 1-nitro-5-chloroanthraquinone, 1-nitro-4-aminoanthraquinone, 1,5-, 1,6-, 1,7- and 1 , 8-dinitroanthraquinone.
The nitroanthraquinones are usually produced by nitrating anthraquinones. For example, the mononitration of anthraquinone gives 1-nitroanthraquinone. The crude l-nitroanthraquinone is mostly contaminated with 2-nitroanthraquinone, 1,5-, 1,6-, 1,7- and 1,8-dinitroanthraquinone and unreacted anthraquinone.
According to the process according to the invention, both such crude nitroanthraquinones as well as purified or pure nitroanthraquinones or not by nitrating
Anthraquinones turn the nitroanthraquinones shown reduced.
The reduction is preferably carried out in the presence of water. The presence of water not only increases that
Yield of aminoanthraquinone, but also simplifies the
Production of aminoanthraquinone, as it allows the use of a water-moist nitranthraquinone. This means that costly drying of the water-moist carbon dioxide mixture of nitroanthraquinones that occurs during the nitration of anthraquinone can be dispensed with.
Of course, water can also be added separately. Water is used regardless of its miscibility with the organic solvent used.
The water is used in amounts of up to about 5, preferably up to about 2 and in particular up to about 1 part by weight per 100 parts by weight of organic solvent. If, for example, solvents and / or water are distilled during the hydrogenation or are blown off with flowing hydrogen, the quantitative data naturally relate to the solvent present in the reaction vessel. In a preferred embodiment, the water is supplied at least partially in such a way that the nitroanthraquinone mixture is used moist with water, as is obtained in the production of nitroanthraquinone.
The catalytic reduction is generally carried out at temperatures between 20 and 200 ° C., preferably between 50 and 175 ° C. The reduction generally takes place under normal pressure; in most cases, however, it is expedient, for example to achieve shorter reaction times, to reduce the hydrogen pressure from 0.5 to 100 bar (absolute), preferably from 1 to 30 bar (absolute).
The reaction is generally carried out up to a conversion of 99.9%, preferably up to a conversion of 99% of the nitroanthraquinones. But you can also the reaction to lower conversions, z. B. 70 to 95%, perform, for example, in a cycle of the organic mother liquors. The conversion is advantageously regulated via the hydrogen uptake, residence time of the nitroanthraquinones on the hydrogenation catalyst, limitation of the hydrogen pressure or similar measures.
The process can be carried out batchwise or continuously in the known hydrogenation apparatus such as hydrogenation autoclaves, tubular reactors, circulation systems or cascades of kettles.
For example, dry or water-moist nitroanthraquinone, solvent and catalyst are placed in a hydrogenation apparatus, the desired water concentration is optionally established and hydrogen is introduced at the chosen reaction temperature under normal or elevated pressure. The introduction of the hydrogen can take place until the desired hydrogen pressure is reached and / or the consumed hydrogen can be replaced or with hydrogen flowing through the reaction mixture while excess hydrogen is continuously being released.
The discharged hydrogen is then preferably circulated. After the required amount of hydrogen has been taken up, the catalyst is separated off, if appropriate after addition of further organic solvent, and the aminoanthraquinone is isolated, for. B. by crystallization, evaporation of the solvent or other known techniques. The mother liquors or distilled solvents could be reused for the next reduction batch instead of new solvents. B. worked up by distillation to separate the water of reaction.
I) as the aminoanthraquinone formed can also by adding a diluent, the aminoanthraquinone not or only a little list z. B. water or methanol is precipitated and separated by the known isolation techniques.
In another embodiment, the catalyst is initially introduced together with some solvent at the chosen reaction temperature and, optionally with simultaneous dropwise addition of water, hydrogen is passed in until the desired pressure is reached or, preferably in excess, with the hydrogen being trimmed through. Nitroanthraquinone is then added, for example as a solution in the organic solvent, in portions or continuously, and the hydrogenation is carried out with further introduction of hydrogen.
The organic solvent and / or water distilling with the excess hydrogen is preferably recycled into the reaction vessel or replaced accordingly. The aminoanthraquinone is then isolated as described.
The process according to the invention is preferably carried out continuously, for example in such a way that nitroanthraquinone is metered as a solution or suspension in the organic solvent according to the invention, optionally in combination with water, into a tubular reactor with a fixed catalyst or with a fluidized catalyst and the reduction is carried out in the trickle or The bottom phase is carried out by introducing hydrogen in cocurrent or countercurrent. The reduction can also be carried out continuously in a boiler cascade. The aminoanthraquinone is then isolated as described.
Of course, the reaction solution freed from the catalyst can be used to reoxidize any overhydrogenated products such. B. Aminoanthrahydroquinones or aminoanthrones are treated with oxidizing agents, for example with air or oxygen, before the isolation of the aminoanthraquinone. However, this is generally not necessary, since the reduction of the nitroanthraquinone takes place selectively and directly to the oxidation state of the aminoanthraquinone by the process according to the invention.
Aminoanthraquinones, especially t-aminoanthraquinone, are important intermediates for the production of many anthraquinone dyes.
Attempts have already been made to catalytically reduce t-nitroanthraquinone to I-aminoanthraquinone. According to Izvest.Akad. Nauk. SSSR, Ser.Chim. 1969, 11, 2550-2553, the reduction is carried out in 70% but sulfuric acid using palladium (5%) on carbon as a catalyst. However, the process has the disadvantage that the reaction product obtained is not t-aminoanthraquinone but its hydrosulfate, from which the free amine can only be produced in a separate stage.
On the other hand, considerable corrosion problems arise when using 70% sulfuric acid. Above all, however, according to this process, the catalyst is poisoned to such an extent that reuse of the catalyst is not possible (Izvest. Akad. Nauk. SSSR, Ser. C'him. 1969, I I, 255 () - 2553).
According to DOS 2 200 () 71, the catalytic reduction of l-nitroanthraquinone in N, N-dialkylcarbonamides such as N, N-dimethylformamide or N-methylpyrrolidone in the presence of noble metals or Raney nickel is carried out. However, the reaction mixture does not provide 1-aminoanthraquinone directly, but initially requires an oxidative aftertreatment, e.g.
With air or oxygen to reoxidize over-hydrogenated reaction products to l-aminoanthraquinone. This oxidative aftertreatment is dangerous and entails losses of N, N-dialkyl carbonamide. Furthermore, these solvents are easily split hydrolytically during the reaction and lead to corresponding losses in yield and quality due to the subsequent reaction of the split off amine with the nitroanthraquinone to form N, N-I) alkylaminoanthraquinone.
In contrast, there is no impairment of the activity of the catalyst in the procedure according to the invention.
In addition, the method according to the invention does not cause any problems with regard to corrosion and also does not pollute the environment due to the easy recycling of the organic oils. Furthermore, the method according to the invention allows the use of a water-moist nitroanthraquinone Invention directly isolate the free aminoanthraquinone.
From British patent specification 465 07 (1 it is known that alkylanthraquinones can be reduced smoothly to the alkylanthraquinones in inert organic solvents under mild conditions. It is therefore particularly surprising that the catalytic reduction of nitroanthraquinone to aminoanthraquinone is possible by the process according to the invention.
