The present invention relates to an apparatus for the control of pharmaceutical ampoules containing an injectable liquid, with a device for projecting light through an ampoule to be checked held vertically, a device for rotating this ampoule before testing and for maintaining it. without rotation during the test, and a device for observing the light which has passed through the bulb during its shutdown.
Devices of this kind are known. The light which has passed through the bulb during its shutdown is visually observed by a person against a background of strong light.
This method has the following drawbacks: - the visual examination is tiring and requires, in addition to an excel
slow eyesight, sustained attention; - fatigue intervening, the examination becomes random for a price
high cost; - finally, this control is subjective and a bulb accepted by a
controller may very well be refused by another or by the
even if the blister comes back to him incognito.
Now, it is obvious that hermetically sealed pharmaceutical glass ampoules containing a liquid substance intended for injections into the blood system must be subjected to a prior inspection with a view to the detection of possible foreign bodies which may cause circulatory accidents.
The present invention aims to avoid the drawbacks of the known devices and methods, while guaranteeing perfect and objective control of each bulb.
In order to achieve this aim, the apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that the device for projecting light comprises a source of a laser beam and at least one objective placed between this source and the bulb, and producing a beam lying in a vertical plane passing through the bulb to be tested, and by the fact that the device for observing the light comprises a series of photoelectric cells, each cell being arranged to receive at least part of the beam, and electrical means influenced by the cells and emitting a signal as a function of the changes over time undergone by the beam, changes caused by impurities moving within the liquid.
The attached drawing shows schematically, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention.
Fig. I schematically shows a side view of an apparatus.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of this device.
A laser source (not shown) emits a cylindrical beam 51. A spherical lens 52 focuses the beam 51 in the xx axis and a cylindrical lens 53 vertically spreads the beam 51. A lens 54 renders the beam, which has taken the shape of a vertical plane, parallel in this vertical plane.
A bulb 55 is placed in the x-x axis. This bulb is no longer rotating itself, but its liquid contents are still rotating.
The beam 51 passes through the bulb 55 and a mirror 56 returns the beam to a mirror 57 which returns the beam to a spherical lens 58. The latter projects onto a photoelectric cell 59 the region located between the two mirrors 56 and 57 under shape of a blurred vertical bar.
A dust which is in the path of the beam, and particularly in the bottle 55, creates a shadow on the cell 59 which, being connected to an alternating current amplifier (not shown), does not cause an electric signal at the output of said amplifier. only if the dust previously set in motion within the liquid passes through the beam 51. The immobile spots, such as the streaks in the glass of the bulb 55, do not create electrical signals because they are immobile.
It can be seen that, in the example described, the beam passes through the bulb three times, thanks to the two mirrors 56 and 57 placed obliquely in the path of the beam. It is obvious that, for long bulbs, it is possible to provide still other mirrors, so that the beam would pass through the bulb for example five times.
The mechanical means for rotating a bulb and for placing it without rotation in the x-x axis are known. In order to accelerate the flow rate of the apparatus, one could provide a revolving device for rotating several bulbs at the same time, and then placing one bulb after another in the x-x axis.
The amplifier influenced by cell 59 is of known construction. An automatic system can be provided, controlled by this amplifier, which acts on mechanical means to eliminate a bulb containing a foreign body such as dust.
