the positioner defining a stop position and the locking of the carriages in this position.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side cross-sectional view of the brake of the installation according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view along II-II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view along III-III of FIG. 2.

Fig. 5 is a sectional view along V-V of FIG. 4.
The linear magnetic induction brake shown in fig. 1 to 3 of the drawing is formed by at least one set of two elements, one of these elements is a variable reluctance inductor excited by direct current.
It consists of a U-shaped ferro-magnetic casing 1 on the base of which is fixed an excitation coil 2. The casing 1 has projections 1a intended to concentrate the magnetic field generated by the coil 2 excited by a direct current.
The other element of the brake consists of an armature formed by a composite plate 3 formed by the union of at least one metal plate very good conductor of electricity (copper or aluminum) and a ferro-magnetic plate forming cylinder head. The magnetic field of the inductor closes in the armature.
The relative movement of these two elements, when the coil is excited, is braked by the eddy currents developing in the armature, the braking force being approximately proportional to the speed of the moving element.
In the preferred embodiment of this brake, the inductor 1, 2 is fixed and is fixed for example to the support rail of the carriages, the armature 3 is fixed to one of the carriages and passes through the air gap of inductor 1, 2.
The positioner shown in fig. 4 and 5 of the drawing consists of an inductor formed from a U-shaped ferro-magnetic casing, 10 on the base of which is fixed an excitation coil 11 excited by a direct current, this casing 10 has projections 10a. This inductor is preferably fixed and is fixed, for example, to the support rail of the carriages. A ferro-magnetic movable element 12 is attached to one of the carriages and is intended to close the magnetic field of the inductor, the reluctance being minimum when the projections 12 and 12a are located opposite the projections 10a of the inductor. as shown in the drawing, in this position the movable element is magnetically positioned very precisely.
The operation of braking and stopping the installation is as follows:
The carriages are braked first by the brake by supplying the excitation coil 2 of the inductor, when the armature passes through the air gap of the inductor, these carriages will be braked, this braking being substantially proportional to the speed of these trolleys. The length of the armature will be calculated so that the final speed is very low. This low speed must be obtained when the element 12 of the positioner enters the air gap of the inductor 10, 11. At this moment the coil 11 is energized so as to position the carriages exactly. The currents of coils 2 and 11 will then be cut by a following translation of the carriages.
In a preferred embodiment and for simplification of the electrical assemblies, the inductors 1, 2 and 10 are fixed in a position determined by the chosen stopping point. This stopping point is fixed in advance according to the operations to be carried out. Several breakpoints can be easily chosen according to the work to be done. At each stopping point are provided a set of inductors 1, 2 and 10, 1 1 intended to cooperate with the armature 3 and the ferro-magnetic element 12 mounted on one of the carriages.
Provision could be made, in the case where the stops are numerous and for the sake of economy, an inverted assembly in which the inductors would be mobile, driven by the carriages, and the armatures 3 and the ferro-magnetic elements 12 fixed.
It would also be possible to provide more than one set of elements for each brake and positioning function, in particular if the loads are significant.
