Fig. 1 in perspektivischer Ansicht einen Luftzielkörper, und

The invention relates to an air target designed as a tow bag, with a hose made of a flexible material, the rear end of which is closed by means of a base in the towing direction.
With the need for greater towing speeds, a problem arises in connection with such air targets due to their comparatively high air resistance.
As an example, it should be mentioned that a towing bag of the size currently in use requires a towing force of around 1200 N at towing speeds of 100 m / s. Since towing speeds of around 200 m / s and a size of the air target that is sufficient for observation from a distance of around 5 km are required, the problem mentioned is particularly important. A proposal to reduce the air resistance of such air targets has become known from the laid-open Swedish patent application 72.13876-1.
It is the aim of the present invention to provide an air target which has a lower air resistance than the previously known air target. According to the invention, this purpose is achieved in the proposed air target body in that the outer wall of the hose extends beyond the fastening line of the floor in the hose and is designed as a tear-off edge.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is described in more detail below with reference to the drawing.
It shows:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an air target body, and
FIG. 2 shows, on a larger scale, an axial partial section through the rear region of the air target body according to FIG. 1.
In the illustrated air target body, a hose body 10 made of flexible material, preferably made of textile material, can be seen. In this case, the hose body 10 is made up of six strips cut to the shape of a wedge, which are fastened to one another at their edges by means of seams 11.
At the rear end of the hose this is closed with a base 12, which can be made of a permeable fabric.
At the front end of the air target body is provided with a conical nose 13 with a towing eye 14. The conical nose, which can be designed as a float for a possible emergency landing in the water and equipped with a radar reflector and a missed indicator, is attached to the reinforced front end of the hose 10 by means of strands or cords 15. The outer wall of the hose 10 extends beyond the joint line 16 between the base 12 and the hose 10 and is designed as a tear-off edge 17 surrounding the base 12. This tear-off edge 17 is provided with an annular filling body 18, for example made of foamed plastic, which is embedded between two layers of the flexible material and whose cross-sectional shape tapers from a rounding in the drag direction.
In the illustrated embodiment, the tear-off edge 17 is formed in a sleeve 19 made of textile material, with which the base 12 is attached to the hose 10. Some openings 20 are also formed in this sleeve.
The tear-off edge 17 results in a considerably reduced air resistance, so that the drag force is also reduced. The openings 20 are dimensioned as a function of the air permeability of the floor 12 so that the air target remains filled with a sufficient amount of air when being towed.
Although the invention has been described on the basis of an air target with a conical nose, it goes without saying that it can also be applied to tow bags without such a conical nose.
