The invention relates to a device for the slow evaporation of insect attractive and confusing substances, in particular one in which the residual amount can be registered.
One method of combating insects is to lure them into a trap using attractive substances, pheromones and similar substances or to influence their sense of direction so that they cannot find their sexual partner, the source of food or the place where they lay eggs. This poses the problem of releasing these substances into the atmosphere as evenly as possible over long periods of time.
Known methods consist in gradually allowing the substances to evaporate from permeable capsules or from the surface of suitable materials such as rubber, cork, paper or metal. All these methods have the disadvantage that the rate of evaporation cannot be easily regulated, and that the course of evaporation and thus the time at which the substance supply is exhausted can only be determined indirectly. In some of these devices, the substance supply is also in contact with the outside air and can possibly decompose.
In the invention, the substance is enclosed in a hose or a tube, the wall of which is sufficiently permeable for the substance so that it continuously evaporates from the surface. The wall is also translucent so that the amount of substance remaining after evaporation can be read directly from the length of the liquid column.
The evaporation rate can be varied as required by choosing the material and the dimensions of the pipe. If the diameter would be inexpediently small to achieve low evaporation rates, the substance can be dissolved in a solvent that evaporates in the same direction.
In an expedient embodiment, the evaporation device consists of a hose (1) made of plastic, e.g. B.
Polyethylene which is attached at both ends to a solid base (2), the surface of which is provided with a length graduation (3). The two-sided fastening of the hose consists expediently of a clamp (4) which encloses the end of the hose and holds it on the base. In order to ensure a complete closure of the hose, it is led back at both ends via the retaining clip and held in place with a second clip (5). To protect the substance supply from the influence of light, a movable cover (6) can be put on, which leaves a gap open on both long sides so that evaporation is not hindered.
In an embodiment for combating insects above the ground (e.g. on trees), the base is provided with a suspension device (7). In another, for fighting close to the ground, the pad is extended downwards and pointed (8) so that it can be inserted into the ground.
