Abstract

A plastic cover for electrostatically operated instruments shields against electric fields and disturbances by means of conducting layers on the plastic cover. The cover (1) is cap shaped and fits on to a base element (2), so that the enclosed space can contain a suitable instrument, viewable through a transparent plastic window (7) in the top of the cover (1). The inside of the cover has a layer of lacquer (3) containing graphite, under another layer of metallic lacquer (4). Both are applied by spraying or dipping or electrostatic deposit methods. The inner layer is earthed by a strap (5) to the instrument earth (6) within the unit.
