Abstract

The rotary cutting tool for boring, scanning etc., is externally threaded with a buttress thread. It has helical flutes cut around it and threads with a steep flank (3) one side and a less steep flank (5) on the other side, in cross section, and with the crest (4) sloping inwards towards the centre of the tool, its leading edge being higher than the following edge. At least one thread at the cutting tip is shallower than rest, and its sloping crest (B'C') is longer than the other crests (4), having a similar angle of slope. This crest extends rearwards to meet the flank of the first complete thread, hence the stop at this point is shorter.
