Siehe dazu besonders Encyclopaedia of Polymer Science and Technology, Band 6, Seite 740-763, insbesondere die Tabelle ab Seite 744.

The present invention relates to a method for preventing migration in polyolefins of compounds of the formula
EMI1.1
wherein R, Rl and R2, independently of one another, are an optionally halogen-substituted alkyl radical with 1-6 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl radical with 5 or 6 carbon atoms or a phenyl radical which can optionally be substituted with 1,2, 3,4 or 5 halogen atoms , and Rl and R2 together also represent a radical of the formula
EMI1.2
wherein X are independently hydrogen, chlorine or bromine, the compound containing at least 1 halogen atom, which is characterized in that the polyolefin in addition to the compound of formula (I) as a migration inhibitor at least one inorganic solid, finely divided compound which has an adsorbing effect on oil,
is chemically inert to the polyolefins and additives at the processing temperature and does not sublime or melt below 280 ° C.
The invention also relates to the polyolefins treated in this way.
The compounds of the formula (I) are added to the polyolefin primarily as flame-retardant substances. Already during incorporation, but also during storage and use, many of these compounds migrate from the inside of the plastic to the surface without the addition according to the invention. This migration results in undesirable segregation. The present invention prevents this segregation.
Preferably the invention relates to preventing the migration of compounds of the formula
EMI1.3
wherein X has the above meaning and the molecule contains at least 2 chlorine or bromine atoms.
The invention also preferably relates to preventing the migration of compounds of the formula
EMI1.4
where R 'denotes an alkyl radical with 1-5 carbon atoms, X has the above meaning and the molecule has at least 2 chlorine or bromine atoms.
Such compounds are e.g. in Belgian patents Nos. 773 153 and 800 324. Examples of such compounds are
EMI1.5
Many of the migration inhibitors in question are known. See especially Encyclopaedia of Polymer Science and Technology, Volume 6, pages 740-763, in particular the table from page 744. Such suitable inorganic adsorbents are, for example: kaolin, bentonite, celite, talc, mica, feldspar, asbestos, fuller's earth, titanium dioxide, Silica, magnesium oxide, aluminum oxide, zinc oxide, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, barium sulfate, calcium sulfate, aluminum phosphate, ammonium bromide and carbon black.
See also the description of bentonites and kaolin in F. Snell and L. Ettre, Encyclopaedia of Industrial Chemical Analysis, Interscience, New York 1970, which are suitable for the process according to the invention.
For incorporation and subsequent processing, approximately the same temperatures are used that are usually used for the polymers in question on the apparatuses known in the plastics industry.
For example, calendering, pressing, extrusion, casting, fiber melt spinning or injection molded articles and split fibers can be produced using conventional methods.
The process according to the invention is illustrated by the following examples.
example
The compound of the formula (b) was mixed in the amount listed in Table I below and the migration inhibitors listed there with unstabilized polypropylene powder (Propathen HM 20 from ICI) in a tumble mixer for 15 minutes. This mixture was rolled into a sheet on a calender for 1 minute at 155-165 ° C. at speeds of 20 to 26 revolutions per minute. Sheets 1 mm thick were then molded on a press. The press plate temperature was 190-2000C and the press point 2 t for 3¸ minutes and 20t for 1¸ minutes. The plastic plates were cooled under slight pressure.
Parts of the plates produced in this way were stored at room temperature, 45 ° and 70 ° C. and examined for their migration after a certain period of time.
Tables 1 and 2 also show the results obtained when the example given was varied.
The compounds (a) to (g) listed in the above text were investigated, the following meanings: nn = not noticeable w = weak m = medium s = strong ss = very strong
The migration-inhibiting effect can be clearly seen from these examples.
