The present invention relates to a sealing ring with an annular sealing lip intended for sealingly sliding on a machine part.
Seals are known in many designs and are used to seal gaps between fixed workpieces on the one hand and workpieces moving relative to one another on the other. You are flexible to fulfill these tasks and adapt to the respective local conditions.
Seals for sealing workpieces that are moved relative to one another are preferably made from elastomers which are ideally suited for these tasks both in terms of sealing properties and in terms of abrasion resistance. The main disadvantage is that there is a large difference between the static friction and the sliding friction in elastomers, which can cause unpleasant side effects, especially during start-up and run-down processes, which are known as stick slip or plug-in loops and the premature destruction of the sealing lip of a Seal can lead.
This is related to the fact that both sleeves and shaft seals have semi-liquid or semi-dry friction with slow movements on the running surfaces and this can result in large changes in the coefficient of friction, so that chatter-free movements are practically impossible.
Low-friction, flexible materials are known with which it is possible, in the case of workpieces which are moved relative to one another and are provided with a seal, even with slow movements, i. H. in the area of semi-liquid or semi-dry friction, to perform chatter-free movements. The fluoropolymers known under various trade names, eg. B.
TEFLON. However, if a perfect seal is to be achieved between workpieces that are moved relative to one another, the sealing lips of the sealing element used must rest on the running surface of a workpiece with a certain pretension. While this pre-tensioning can be easily controlled with elastomers, this is not possible with the known plastics with a low-friction surface, since their flexibility and elasticity are not sufficient to ensure correct pre-tensioning even with certain tolerances of the work pieces. For example, if a shaft has to be sealed, the preload can be just right with a medium tolerance, but too large or too small for the upper and lower tolerance values. As a result, the known fluoropolymers cannot be used, in particular for shaft seals and sleeves.
The invention is based on the object of designing a sealing ring of the type mentioned in such a way that the sealing lip also ensures reliable sealing when the usual dimensional tolerances are present when materials with a low-friction and / or adhesion-preventing surface are used for the design of the sealing lip.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the sealing ring has an annular base body made of an elastomer, and the sealing lip has a first part connected to the base body and a second part connected to the base body and the first part and provided with a low-friction and / or adhesion-preventing surface Has part which is provided at its free edge with recesses which are filled by the material of the base body up to the surface.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, for example by means of two exemplary embodiments, and is described below. It shows:
1 shows a cross section through a shaft sealing ring, the outer diameter of which is pressed into a recess of a housing and is connected to a part which extends over the sealing lip and has a low-friction surface, and
FIG. 2 shows a cross section through a sealing ring, the sealing lip of which is covered in a manner similar to that in FIG. 1 with a part which has a low-friction surface.
The shaft sealing ring shown in FIG. 1 has a profiled base body 1 with a sealing lip 2. A profiled partial body 3 is connected to the base body 1, for example, is welded together, which is anchored with a leg 4 in the base body 1 and forms a part 5 of the sealing lip 2 with a curved leg. The sealing lip 2 accordingly consists of a first part 6 formed from the material of the base body 1 and a second part formed from the parts 3, 5.
While the base body 1 is formed from an elastomer and thus has rubber-elastic properties, the partial body 3 is made of a material with a low-friction and / or adhesion-preventing surface, e.g. B. formed from a fluoropolymer, of which PTFE is particularly suitable.
Parts 1 and 3 are conveniently connected by vulcanization.
It is essential that the part 5 has a number of recesses on its free edge which are filled by the material of the base body 1 in such a way that a flush surface with the surface of the part 5 is formed.
As already mentioned at the beginning, the part 5 does have a low-friction and / or adhesion-preventing surface, but without the rubber-elastic properties of the material of the base body 1. The recesses 8 filled by the elastomer of the base body 1 give the sealing lip 2 the required elastic properties without the favorable properties of the surface of the part 5 being reduced as a result.
The two dash-dotted lines 9 indicate a shaft which interacts with the two seals shown. As can be seen from the figures, the seal according to FIGS. 1 and 2, in the relaxed state, has a slightly smaller diameter than the shaft 9, so that it is preloaded on the shaft during assembly. The recesses 8 ensure that the preload has the correct extent, even if the diameter of the shaft 9 changes within the dimensional tolerances. In this way it is achieved that a sealing lip made of a material can be used which would otherwise not be usable.
In Fig. 2, a sealing ring is shown in cross section, such as is used for example in reciprocating shafts. Since the structure of the sealing ring is the same as in Fig. 1, the same reference numerals have been used. The difference is that the base body 1 has a different profile shape and the partial body 3 does not have any additional legs. The part 5 forms the sealing lip with the part 6 in the same way and has recesses 8 on its free edge 7 which are filled with the material of the base body 1. While the recesses 8 according to FIG. 1 extend exactly parallel to the axial direction, the bevels 8 of the sleeve according to FIG. 2 run obliquely.
With this seal, too, the special design of the part 5 ensures that, on the one hand, a low-friction and / or adhesion-preventing surface is created on the sealing lip 2; Due to the special design of the part 5 with the recesses, the favorable properties of the surface of the part 5 are practically not influenced, but it is possible to give the sealing lip 2 the necessary rubber-elastic properties.
Are for the part 5 fluoropolymers, z. B. PTFE is used, it can be useful to add graphite to part 5 within certain limits. The graphite content can be varied within considerable limits, for example between 3-40% by weight.
