Abstract

The cinematographic film intermittent driving mechanism has a claw (41) having a two pronged end (42) which penetrates into the film perforations (54). It uses means for displacing the claw end (42) in a direction parallel to the plane of the film in order to drive the film. Means are provided (48-53) for displacing the claw end in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the film so as to engage the claw end into or withdraw it from the film perforations. The controlling means for engagement and withdrawal of the claw from the perforations is electromagnetic. This electromagnet has a U shaped core (52) which carries the exciting winding (53). The ends of the arms of the U shaped core forms pole pieces and delimits between them an airgap in which an armature (S1), connected to the claw (41), moves.

Description

The present invention relates to a mechanism for intermittent drive of a perforated strip, in particular of a cinematographic film, comprising a claw having at least one claw lip which penetrates into the perforations of the strip, means for moving the claw lip in a direction parallel to the plane of the strip and for driving it and means for moving the claw beak in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the strip to cause the penetIation and withdrawal of the claw beak in the perforations, said means for controlling the penetration and withdrawal of the claw beak comprising electromagnetic means.

Mechanisms for intermittent driving of a cinematographic film are already known, comprising a first cam for controlling the transport of the film and a second cam controlling the penetration.

Control cams are parts that must be precision machined and made from a wear resistant material. They are expensive and their manufacture requires special care.

On the other hand, there are known intermittent film drive claw mechanisms comprising an eccentric for driving the claw jaws and an electromagnet which periodically retains said jaws in the retracted position relative to the plane of the film. They generally comprise a metal part which can pivot around a fixed axis and which is periodically attracted by the armature of an electromagnet.

These mechanisms are relatively noisy as a result of the high-rate impact of two metal parts against each other. This is normally also the case with constructions using plunging reinforcements.

The present invention proposes to remedy these drawbacks by providing an intermittent drive mechanism in which the claw can oscillate freely in the direction of the movement for the penetration and withdrawal of the claw beak.

According to the present invention the electromagnetic means comprise a U-shaped yoke which carries an excitation coil, the ends of the branches of the U forming the pole pieces of the yoke and delimiting between it an air gap in which an armature connected to the claw can dive.

The present invention will be better understood with reference to the description of an exemplary embodiment and to the accompanying drawing in which the only figure is a perspective view of an embodiment of an intermittent drive mechanism according to the invention applied. to a cinematographic film.

The illustrated intermittent drive mechanism comprises a claw (41) equipped with two claw jaws (42) and the central part (44) of which is provided with a recess (45) in which is housed a Trezel type cam (46 ) rotating around an axis (47) and extended by an elongated rod (43). The rod (43) is connected to a lever (48) rotating around an axis (49) by means (50) known per se which allow relative rotation of said rod (43) and of said lever (48). The lever (48) carries at one of its ends an armature (51), preferably a permanent magnet (51), which engages between the two pole pieces (52) of a U-shaped yoke which carries a coil excitation (53) of the electromagnet.

The Trezel type cam (46) moves the claw teeth (42) in a direction parallel to the film plane.

When the coil (53) of the electromagnet is supplied with a pulse, the magnet (51) is pushed back in the direction of the arrow causing the lever (48) to pivot around the axis (49) and pushing back the claw in such a way that the claw beaks (42) penetrate the perforations (54) of the film (55). In the absence of a supply pulse from the electromagnet (53), the permanent magnet (51) is attracted towards the median zone of the two branches (52) constituting the armature of the electromagnet. -magnet (53) driving the lever (48) and the claw (41) and causing the withdrawal of the claw beaks (42) out of the perforations (54) of the strip (55).
