The invention relates to a method for sealingly feeding solidifying cast parts made of metal, in particular iron alloy, in permanent metallic molds with a closed feeder system.
It is known to use so-called chill feeder systems for the sealing feeding of solidifying cast parts made of metal in permanent molds, whereby when casting strongly shrinking metals, such as iron alloys, white-hardening cast irons etc., the technical problems of the feeder are difficult to solve due to the rapid cooling in the permanent molds . It is known, when using open feeders for sealing feed, to insulate them with ceramic inserts to keep the melt warm. This process is rather complex and there is a risk of non-metallic inclusions in the melt.
The use of oversized feeder volumes worsens the steel output and often extends the cycle time due to longer solidification times, which leads to unnecessary thermal stress on the mold and deteriorates the economic efficiency of the process.
When the feeders are closed, a vacuum is created, which does not guarantee that the cast parts are fed tightly.
For the production of tension-free cast parts in permanent molds, it is known from DT-OS 1 558 287 to attach heat-emitting agents specifically to thermite cartridges in risers and overheads in order to ensure that the risers are kept open for pressure equalization between the mold cavity and the atmosphere.
When casting rapidly shrinking metals in permanent molds, the atmospheric pressure acting on the open feeders is usually too low to achieve perfect sealing of the cast parts, even when exothermic substances are used, before the rapid solidification of permanent molds.
The object of the invention is, with the lowest possible feeder volume, the economical production of void-free cast parts from rapidly shrinking metals such. B.
to ensure white cast iron and steel cast in permanent molds.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that at least one feeder insert which generates gases and heat is brought into reaction with the melt in such a way that an overpressure is created in the feeder system only after a cast skin has been formed in the feeder cavity.
According to the invention, the feeder inserts used for this process have a powder which reacts exothermically with the melt and synthetic resin as a combustible and gas-evolving binder with 3 to 20% by weight.
Due to the binding agent, a time delayed
Ignition of the powder can be achieved.
The invention is illustrated as an example in the accompanying drawings and described below. Show it:
1 shows a detail of a permanent mold in cross section through the mold cavity,
2 shows a section of a permanent mold half as a view of the mold cavity,
Fig. 3 is a partial cross-section of Fig. 1 in a process step and
FIG. 4 likewise shows a partial cross-section from FIG. 1 in a further method step.
1 shows the section of a permanent mold 1 in cross section perpendicular to the mold parting plane 2 consisting of the two mold halves 1 'and 1 ″. The permanent mold 1 contains the mold cavity 4, the feeder cavity 3 of a so-called closed feeder and the sprue 5.
FIG. 2 shows the view of a mold half 1 ″ in which the mold cavity 4, the feeder cavity 3 and the sprue channel 5 can also be seen in a view.
Before the two mold halves 1 'and 1 "are closed, a feeder insert 6 in a mold half - for example 1" - is fastened in the feeder cavity 3 by means of an adhesive.
The tablet-shaped or rod-shaped feeder insert 6 consists of an exothermic powder, for example an aluminothermic powder and a synthetic resin binder which is easily combustible and evolves gases, e.g. Furan resin, in an amount of 3 to 20% by weight. The coating of the powder particles with the binding agent slows down the aluminothermic reaction rate between the melt and the feeder insert.
After the feeder insert 6 has been attached, the permanent mold 1 is closed (see FIG. 1) and then the melt 7 is fed through the sprue 5 to the mold cavity 4 and feeder cavity 3 from below, the air contained therein between the mold parting plane 2 or 2, which does not close completely tightly can escape through attached ventilation slots.
Due to the strong cooling effect of the permanent metal mold 1, a cast skin 8 is created very quickly, as shown in FIG. 3, whereby the mold cavity 4 and the feeder cavity 3 are sealed gas-tight from the outside atmosphere. Due to the delayed thermal reaction of the feeder insert 6 with the melt 7, which only takes place after the formation of the casting skin 8, an overpressure builds up in the feeder cavity 3 due to the resulting gases, which the melt 7, which is held in liquid form by the simultaneously generated heat, in the Mold cavity 4 presses. As a result, the cast part 9 is perfectly sealed, with the displaced melt volume in the feeder forming a cavity 10, which can be seen from FIG. 4.
Since, in contrast to sand casting, the casting skin forms quickly in chill casting, the thermal reaction of the feeder insert, which is delayed by the addition of a synthetic resin, is sufficient to fully utilize the effect of the gases produced by building up an overpressure.
The heat development must not be so great that the casting skin is melted again in the region of the mold parting plane, which can also be prevented by attaching the feeder insert 6 sufficiently far away from the mold parting plane 2 in the feeder cavity 3.
By adding a corresponding percentage of the synthetic resin binder, the time delay of the thermal reaction can be adapted to the cooling rate, with an addition of 5 to 8 percent by weight of furan resin having proven itself in practice.
The described feeder inserts ensure that cast parts made of rapidly shrinking metals, especially cast steel, are sealed when pouring into permanent molds, whereby the low feeder volume required significantly improves the economic efficiency of this method compared to previous methods of operation with very little effort.
